68 – EP5. Wind Memory

Angel licked his lips. Only after successfully deflecting the attack did he realize how heavy it was.

Each shot of Badril’s bullet was unbelievably heavy.

No matter how powerful Eberkas was, the situation where he was being constrained by a powerful monster didn’t offer any solutions. In simple terms, it seemed like the mages would exhaust their resources before they could simply wipe out the enemy’s reserves.

“Damn it, this won’t work like this…”

Angel started to feel anxious. The mages were only a few hundred. How long could they withstand the Titan’s assault?

The Titan could never win in a head-on battle. It was an opponent that couldn’t be guaranteed to be defeated even if they concentrated all their resources after creating a situation where they could solely focus on the Titan.

So now, the mages had to eliminate the enemy reserves while they were still able to tie down the Titan’s feet, but Eberkas, who was supposed to take on the role of destroying the reserves, was currently being held back by the Titan’s direct subordinates. They needed to quickly deal with the Titan’s subordinates.

Badril stared intently at Angel and then put in another bullet.

Usually, straight weapons were more convenient for injecting magical power, so the halberd wasn’t commonly used as it was overshadowed by the rapier. However, the orc named Badril was peculiarly using the halberd.

Angel approached Badril. Badril also approached Angel.

And then, without needing to ask who would strike first, Angel and Badril clashed their swords.

Crack! The first collision was startling.

However, cold sweat ran down Angel’s back. Even though he had amplified his energy using sword qi, it ended up like this. His opponent used an equal amount of energy with their sword without any amplification. Maintaining the sword qi consumed a tremendous amount of mana, so Angel knew he couldn’t sustain the current situation for long.

Angel recalled the training with Sein.

Since it took a long time to create sword qi, he couldn’t turn it on and off at will. So he had to respond as quickly as possible, without giving his opponent a chance to breathe.

Angel swung his sword. With a crackling sound, Angel deliberately created some distance.

And Angel observed as Badril tried to swing his sword with his strength.

Right before Badril swung his sword, Angel threw a small fireball at him.

“Kuuk!”

Badril lost his balance while avoiding the fireball, thus missing the timing. And if that was the case, all that remained was to kill the opponent.

Angel tried to thrust his sword into Badril’s abdomen.

But Badril quickly rolled away, dodging the sword.

“…Damn it.”

He missed the perfect opportunity. Angel knew that this method wouldn’t work a second time.

His mana was gradually decreasing. Badril made a sound of “Kuuk” and charged.

Crack! Once again, the sound of swords colliding echoed, accompanied by sparks.

Ainzel began to give up in his heart.

From Noble mtl dot com

He had exhausted all his tricks, and he had wasted his chances. How about just dying once and starting over?

Ainzel, clashing swords, unconsciously began to aim for the ‘next time’.

Yeah, even if I die, I’ll come back…

Ainzel thought that way, then snapped to attention. What am I saying now?

It’s not completely lost yet. There’s still magic power left, and divine power too. It’s not too early to give up yet.

Ainzel started to glare at the enemy. As his concentration reached its peak, time seemed to slow down, and the enemy’s sword was visible. Of course, that didn’t mean he could see and dodge it. He could just observe the enemy. And Ainzel noticed a slight chip in the enemy’s longsword.

It was actually natural. When two swords clashed with each other, and they were on equal footing, the impact had to be quite significant. And the Holy Sword, no matter what happened, would never break, so the impact would go to that longsword. In fact, the longsword, which was designed to absorb the impact better, was able to withstand it to some extent; if it had been a straight sword, it would have broken already.

Ainzel began to target the chipped part of the longsword. He persistently focused on one side and clashed swords, while the enemy clashed swords with him, unaware of such a thing.

And when the sound of ‘kagakagak!’ was heard, it was already too late.

“Ku-luk?”

Badril sensed the enemy’s sword penetrating his own blade and realized the emergency. He had to quickly draw another weapon.

However, the power struggle continued, and it didn’t give Badril a chance to step back and draw another weapon.

As Ainzel tightened his grip on the sword with all his strength, the longsword finally began to show signs of cracking.

Crack. Crack. The longsword began to crack, and eventually, the blade of the longsword broke.

“Kuuuok!”

The Holy Sword that had lost the weapon it had been clashing with, swept through the air, and the final destination of that sword was an orc’s neck.

Badril felt his neck being severed.

“…Phew, we’ve finally dealt with one.”

Ainzel looked at the orc’s lifeless body with its head detached and signaled to Ricardo.

“Here we come!”

Ricardo shot an arrow with all his magical power, and the magic power surrounding the arrow was so dense that it had physical force.

The arrow bloomed in Bigfoot’s neck.

“Kuuuok!”

Of course, they didn’t kill Bigfoot in one shot, but that was okay.

After dealing with him using Ivercas’s flames.

Bigfoot also disappeared in the flames of Ivercas.

Ainzel and Ricardo smiled and began to move elsewhere.

Where Ainzel ran, Lena and Sein were there. It seemed that the two of them, except for Peria and Beatrice, who were participating in the protection barrier, had gathered and were practicing their combination.

“Oh, you’re here? We’ve taken care of a couple of Claudio around here.”

Angel watched the smiling women.

“The situation is not good right now, but it’s fortunate. Does that mean Claude has taken care of everything?”

“Yeah, probably. Thankfully, it seems like Claude has sorted everything out.”

Angel smiled. Finally, as the restraining Claudes disappeared, the high-level fire spirit Ivercas began to reveal his majesty.

“Rise, you vile creatures!”

Ivercas shouted and hurled a massive fireball towards the densely packed monsters. The fireball exploded, sweeping away everything around it.

“…Incredible.”

Red, orange, yellow – all the colors of a total spectrum illuminated the ground.

“If that’s a high-level fire spirit, I wonder what the supreme or elemental king is like…”

Angel casually remarked.

Sain responded seriously, “That’s true. We should probably ask Feria after the battle.”

“Of course…”

When Lena spoke, all of their comrades there responded in unison.

“After we’ve dealt with these creatures!”

Angel and Sain rushed forward, and Lena nocked her arrow. Angel slaughtered the monsters one by one, Sain cleared a path with barely a monster left standing, and Lena’s arrows took down one after another.

Ivercas watched them and descended with a smile.

“Hey, what are you guys? You seem pretty strong for beings from the middle realm. Feria is Magnus’s daughter, but what about you two? Well, the dark guy seems a little different, but you all seem to know quite a bit.”

Ivercas laughed and spoke. Angel replied, “Oh, thank you. I’m the hero of this generation, and Sain and Lena are my comrades.”

“Is that so? I wasn’t too interested in heroes, but this time, I’m grateful. Thanks to you, the battlefield is going quite well.”

Ivercas said with eyes like amethyst. Angel simply smiled.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t find a way to pierce his hide, so we couldn’t defeat the Titan. Still, with most of the Claudes taken care of on the battlefield, the situation has improved significantly.”

The Titan was angry when he saw that most of the Claudes had been killed and his minions were being slaughtered without meaning. Why had he even placed the Claudes there? Why were Claudes sacrificed?

In any case, if it continued like this, his minions would all die, and he might end up isolated. Even if the enemy didn’t cause him significant harm, no one knew what would happen in such a situation.

The Titan eventually repelled the annoying mages and began to retreat, breaking through the encirclement. Some were delighted to see the Titan retreating, and some were disappointed that they couldn’t defeat him, but no one had managed to harm the Titan.

Angel watched the retreating Titan until the end.

“Heh, I have no idea where that ignorantly powerful monster came from.”

“…Is there no way to bring it down?”

When Angel asked Ivercas, Ivercas brushed his thick red hair and said,

“No, at least for now.”

The battle of today was over.

The evening play was ending.
