91 – 91. Ace Card

Guild officials and key figures attending the Blessing Guild Council.

“Erina!”

“Sister!”

Erin embraced her cousin sister, the deputy guild leader of the Blessing Origin Guild, one of the three major guilds, sharing greetings.

“Why am I the bodyguard?”

“It suits you well.”

“……”

Watching nearby in a suit like a bodyguard, Lica sighed, and when Siye approached her in the same outfit, trying to soothe her, Lica’s reaction was cold.

‘Ah! Siye’s contemptuous gaze seems to pierce through the heart, doesn’t it!?’

Ciel barely swallowed a groan as she felt a chill in her gaze.

To Majoin, Ricca’s sharpened look of disdain towards her was literally a reward.

Lately, Ricca’s gaze had become even sharper, her eyelashes fuller and sharper overall, exuding a certain power that stirred something in the chest.

“…Ha.”

Seeing Ciel, who seemed ready to die for Ricca’s contemptuous glance, Ricca sighed and turned her head.

“Hey, Camilla. You don’t have to go, right?”

Disguised as a bodyguard, Camilla quietly replied to Ricca’s question.

Knowing that what Jane needed now wasn’t her, Camilla nodded.

“Just come back and stay by her side…”

Despite feeling a slight sympathy for Camilla’s situation, Ricca didn’t consider her a close friend and ignored her.

While it was partly because of her that Jane had become more interested in Rocer and developed more emotions towards him, she had resolved to do her best without regret, deciding to leave.

Unlike her, who had resolved to give up, Camilla’s foolish appearance in any situation seemed annoying to Ciel.

“Rocer, this guy always gets involved in all sorts of twisted things, right? And always with women who look somewhat decent.”

It was a matter that had nothing to do with her now, but being stuck with him was bound to be irritating.

“But why are we late?”

Frowning, Ciel asked Ricca why they had departed much later than Jane had arrived.

“I don’t know, that person takes their sweet time. Anyway, always doing as they please.”

While grumbling, Ricca kindly explained the reason.

“Where is that guy up to now?”

Ricca glanced around with a cold expression, observing only those with known faces from Jane’s Shadow Guild present.

Some covered their faces with thin, white cloth-like artifacts to obstruct recognition.

‘…!’

Ricca scrutinized them and noticed something peculiarly alien.

A distinct, intense power associated with those who belonged to the cult of the Dark Worshipers or dealt with magic emanated faintly from some of them…

‘They look somewhat older!?’

It was a very subtle feeling coming from those who seemed a bit older.

What was a bit odd was that the magic they wielded was a very bright white.

Others seemed not to notice this.

“Are you perhaps Lady Erin’s bodyguards?”

“Your gaze is quite beautiful. Would you consider taking charge of my security?”

“Hey, I arrived first.”

Those who were captivated by Ricca’s changed demeanor and gaze approached, pretending to be familiar.

Some had blue hair, others resembled Erin, indicating they were probably from a rather noble family, except for Rocer, Ricca, who had no interest, just clicked her tongue.

A strange, indescribable scent of danger emanated heavily from those with the white magic.

‘Anyway, trouble always seems to follow that guy. Always.’

Ricca shook her head with a twitching gaze, looking as if her head was throbbing in pain.

Thanks to that, Rocer, whose ears were itching for no reason, was quite surprised.

“Jane? What’s wrong? Did something get in your eye?”

With tears welling up in her eyes, Jane stood there trembling, staring at him with a face streaked with tears.

Recalling Jane’s usual demeanor, crying wasn’t an option.

Eventually, tears rolled down Jane’s cheeks like raindrops.

“What’s going on? Are girls these days crying as soon as they see me?”

Roxanne knew he had issues, but seeing a woman cry because of him made him slightly worried about the severity of the problem.

Gently approaching, he wiped Jane’s tears with his sleeve, and she tightly held his hand.

Looking at him with teary eyes that had turned red from crying, she felt warmth as if she truly missed him while trying to suppress her tears.

“…Why are you suddenly crying like this?”

Not understanding Jane’s feelings, Roxanne approached her closely, wondering why she was crying so much.

Maybe because she was used to him getting close to her, Jane only snapped out of it when he tried to embrace her.

“…Jane?”

With a sudden push, Jane pushed Roxanne away, wiped her tears as if asking when she cried, and sent him a hostile look with her still red eyes.

Her demeanor was akin to how one would look at someone they weren’t close with.

Roxanne could sense that there was something she had resolved within herself.

“You always let me hold you, why the change now?”

As Roxanne questioned her, Jane remained silent for a moment before speaking up.

“Why did you suddenly come here?”

With a steady gaze, Jane asked Roxanne emotionlessly, although her hand was clenched into a fist, trembling lightly.

“No, being close to Roxanne again… Even Roxanne might be in danger.”

Jane tried to push Roxanne away, fearing for his safety as she had already caused him trouble and been rescued multiple times.

“What’s up, came to pick up the runaway melee dealer.”

Approaching her confidently, Roxanne explained, causing Jane to step back as if it were natural.

“Jane?”

It was the first time Jane had stepped back when he approached, making Roxanne wonder if he had misjudged something.

“…Don’t call my name so casually.”

In a firm tone, Jane rejected him, forcing the words out.

Not missing her trembling voice, Roxanne chuckled softly.

“Even though you always stick around no matter what I say.”

Approaching with his hand in his pocket, Roxanne walked towards Jane.

“…! I told you not to come?”

As Jane backed away, she told Roxanne to turn back, but he showed no intention of stopping.

“You always stick to me as you please, tormenting me, and I can’t do anything?”

“…It’s all in the past now.”

As Jane shook her head in response to his question, she refused his advances.

“Whose decision was that?”

However, Rockser approached her with a gradually hardening expression.

“You risked your life to get close in the beginning, I saved you at great cost, taught you so much, and now you’re going to leave?”

Recalling everything that had happened with Jane, he approached as if he could never let her go.

In the end, Jane, cornered against the wall, leaned her back against it and looked at Rockser who had stopped in front of her.

Rockser gazed into Jane’s eyes, devoid of a known determination.

A gaze that coexisted with hesitation and resolution, a look he had seen once before.

“Surely that look was there back then too. Who would have thought such a coincidence would happen again.”

Rockser stared intently at Jane, waiting for her to speak first.

But Jane, turning her head away, didn’t say a word, or perhaps couldn’t.

“Are you avoiding me out of concern?”

“……”

As Rockser’s words hit home, Jane hesitantly raised her eyes to look at Rockser.

“It seems so.”

“…..”

Still, Jane remained silent, only gazing at him, prompting a slight smile from Rockser.

“What’s troubling you so much that you’re pondering like this?”

Rockser asked, sensing a similarity between Jane’s current gaze, lost in thought, and the moment she had an epiphany.

Jane, staring blankly at him, finally confessed, “If you continue to stay with me… my father and the elders won’t leave you alone.”

Only then did Jane reveal her inner struggles to Rockser.

“I have many things I can’t tell you. Please, just go back now, please…”

Looking at Rockser with a pitiful gaze, Jane bit her lip nervously.

The woman who was always confident and straightforward now, for the first time, gazed at him with a tender and pitiful look.

By now, the woman who should have been smiling brightly and sticking close like a koala seemed about to cry, pushing him away with a sad expression.

Rockser caught her hand as she tried to pull away.

“It’s okay, I can fight freely with a strong opponent like you.”

“….!”

Jane’s gaze wavered at Rockser’s unexpected response.

“…Still, I can’t, I don’t like you anymore.”

However, with a determined resolve, Jane tried to break free from Rockser.

But instead, Rockser held her tighter.

“You’ve been through a lot. Must have been tough on your heart.”

As if understanding how difficult it had been for Jane, he gently comforted her by stroking her hair.

Other than when she was very young and her mother and older brother were alive, no one had ever caressed her head.

She felt a tingling sensation, her chest itching, as tears threatened to fall.

Though the emotions she felt now were surely of joy, for some reason, whenever she looked at him, her eyes conveyed a sense of pain or sorrow.

“Don’t be kind to me…”

“Is that what you say while crying, fool.”

Shaking her head as if in denial, Jane eventually approached him, tears streaming down her face, and embraced him without a word.

After crying for a long time, finally calming down.

“Are you feeling better now?”

“Yes!”

Jane, who quickly returned to her usual self, looked at him with a bright smile.

With a smirk as if things were going according to plan, Roxer showed something to Jane.

“What, what is that!?”

Upon seeing it, Jane reacted intensely, as if she was provoked.
