90 – 90. Wish

Jane, who woke up early in the morning, blankly stared at her phone in her hand.

Contrary to her tattered heart that hadn’t lit up the screen even once since sending the blank message to Rokse last, a radiant image of herself appeared in her blue eyes.

It looked as though she had received intensive recovery and care in a short period of time.

‘Did I prepare everything while I was unconscious…’

Jane let out a sigh as if familiar with the situation and covered the phone on the bed.

Until the guild council, she had been unable to sleep a wink, focusing solely on training every day.

It might seem harsh, but she actually thought it was better that way.

If she immersed herself in something without a moment’s rest, no sad thoughts or worries would come to mind at that moment.

But.

‘…I miss Rokse and the others…’

For some reason, even when she was absorbed in training, glimpses of Rokse and the others seemed to appear from time to time.

Even when she was crazed about training, there was a sense of liberation, but oddly, the image of Rokse kept popping up the more she trained.

‘I’ve learned a lot from Rokse…’

Perhaps the movements and combat style she was executing now were greatly influenced by Rokse.

If that was the case, she should only recall what she learned from Rokse…

‘Why does the memory of going to buy those strange clothes with Roxer keep coming to mind?’

Jane kept recalling how Roxer had complimented her appearance and bought her a revealing white dress that made her chest stand out.

She continued to remember the moments when she and Roxer had fought together, laughing, shouting, and leaning on each other.

‘I haven’t even repaid the debt from back then…’

She reinforced how Roxer not only saved her when she was being engulfed by Misteltain’s influence but also made her stronger.

It wasn’t just about Roxer pinpointing her weaknesses.

The pinpointed areas were where Misteltain’s power flowed to manipulate and control.

It was the place where external forces of power, like flashes, were condensed and combined.

Thanks to this, Jane could focus on the areas Roxer had targeted and recall the sensations of being engulfed, becoming much stronger than before.

‘…I can only be who I am now because of you, Roxer…’

With a sad expression, Jane slowly got up from the bed.

During her time at the academy, she used to wake up every morning wondering what Roxer would teach her that day.

Looking out the window, she would happily ponder what fun things she could do with Roxer, but now, those thoughts remained as faint memories.

All she could do was long for him by recalling his body temperature, voice, scent, and face.

“…..”

With a vacant expression, Jane looked at herself in the steamed-up mirror while showering.

Even before she knew Roxer, she used to hum while washing up in the morning, but now, not even a smile crossed her face.

‘I wish I never knew Roxer.’

Regretting unnecessarily getting close to him, she thought that if she hadn’t, she wouldn’t have been dragged into the guild council from the academy.

And she wouldn’t keep thinking about Roxer’s face.

“You look good in that outfit.”

“…Thank you.”

Wearing the formal attire according to the family’s customs, Jane, feeling disheartened, got into the carriage with her father heading to the Guild Council.

“Jane, don’t lose your composure.”

“Yes, Father.”

Her strict father’s reprimand made Jane think about what Roxer had said to her.

Roxer would always ask why she stuck around if she found his distance strange.

She was curious too.

Why did she cling to a man she didn’t care about or show interest in, and say strange things to him?

‘Oh, I must have lost my mind.’

Jane recalled the memories of clinging to Roxer all this time.

The fluttering sensation and unknown emotions she felt when she first lost to someone and was embraced by him.

The feeling of being told she was beautiful for the first time ever so naturally.

The thrill she felt when she wore women’s clothing for the first time and saw the admiring gaze fixed on her.

The strange and unexplainable heartache and the unnamed emotions that shook her in her communion with him.

Like the passing background outside the window, countless memories and emotions flowed uncontrollably away.

‘…I must be insane… I am insane.’

Jane chastised herself, feeling her eyes welling up for no reason.

I must become the one to lead the Changgeum Guild in the future, but why do I appear so weak?

Everything was clear and distinct; I could handle and control any emotion skillfully.

Stupidly, whenever I think of him, whenever he comes to mind, I can’t seem to control these unknown emotions and sensations.

“Pull yourself together now, Jane.”

Such Jane called out to herself gently.

There is no point in holding onto the irreversible; it will only leave behind regrets.

Good memories turn into fond recollections, and longing emotions are buried with past events. Now, she resolved to move forward on the path she must tread.

With closed eyes, Jane took a light breath and slightly tilted her head back.

“Jane.”

“Yes, Father!”

Responding cheerfully to her father’s call, just like before.

Jane had returned to her usual bright self in an instant.

Suppressing all emotions momentarily, unable to relive fleeting moments of happiness, she focused on the present.

“Never make mistakes or act recklessly in the council, especially not in front of the elders.”

“Yes, Father, I understand.”

With that, Jane got out of the carriage and headed to the guild council with her father.

Surrounded by numerous reporters and employees of the Guild Union.

Only high-ranking officials and individuals above that status from renowned guilds crowded the surroundings.

“Oh! Jane, you’ve become even stronger since we last met!”

And those who recognized her approached to strengthen their ties with her.

Eyes filled with desire, devoid of a single drop of sincerity, solely driven by the intent to exploit.

“Your reputation seems to be flourishing these days?”

“That’s right. Not the best, but still impressive.”

“Well, as for Locke’s disciple? You may not be at his level, but achieving many feats by his side is only natural.”

“I never imagined the former senior disciple beside the outstanding Locke’s disciple would be you.”

Inferiority breeding jealousy, caution, and envy.

Amidst those feelings, his name resurfaced, reminding her of the emotions she needed to let go of.

Unless she became the leader, unless decades hadn’t passed, she swallowed once again the feeling that pained her heart at the thought of never meeting him.

‘Yes, this must be where I belong.’

Jane, reminiscing moments and conversations shared with him, fought off the longing and regained her composure.

“hahahaha, it’s nothing much. I still have a lot more to strive for.”

It was her first time in such a public setting, but she skillfully interacted with people as she had been educated to do.

Yet, there was a slight awkwardness in her demeanor.

Even while engaging with others, her gaze naturally wandered around as if searching for someone.

He couldn’t possibly be here, but ever since hearing his name, she couldn’t help but feel like he might be around, scanning her surroundings needlessly.

“…What am I even doing like a fool… really…”

Eventually, Jane climbed to the highest point in the space where the guild council was held, resting her forehead against it and let out a sigh alone.

‘He couldn’t possibly be here.’

As Jane’s heart began to ache, she sighed and descended the stairs once again.

“Although still lacking, she has shown remarkable progress, so this time, she is to be sent to Cheonsan where the elders reside for further training as the future leader.”

Her father declared, diverting everyone’s attention, sending her elsewhere.

Jane was descending the stairs just in time, locking eyes with her father.

Soon, she became the center of attention in the banquet hall.

With numerous congratulations and cheers echoing around, Jane couldn’t help but smile naturally.

“We have the next heir inauguration ceremony scheduled, so make sure to tidy up your appearance and mindset before coming.”

“Yes, Father.”

Without a hint of rebellion towards her father, Jane stepped out momentarily to check her appearance for the last time before the council meeting.

‘Once I start receiving the heir’s education… I probably won’t be able to meet Rockser anymore…’

As Jane walked towards where people were waiting to check her clothes, she thought it was better this way.

Occasionally feeling a pang in her heart, not knowing the name of the emotion that still troubled her mind.

Anyway, it’s all in the past.

Now is the time to really pull herself together and strive to live as the heir.

By busily working and living like that, she would eventually forget all those unnamed emotions and the sadness of now.

Embracing such hope, Jane walked confidently.

‘…Then, I will be forgotten too.’

However, she soon bowed her head and faltered.

Confident in her mental strength above all, why was she feeling this way again?

Jane didn’t want to forget him.

“I… I don’t want to be forgotten…”

Unable to move forward, overwhelmed to the point of being unable to think, Jane trembled slightly.

At that moment when tears welled up in her blue eyes as she bowed her head.

“!”

A familiar gait approached her.

Jane wondered if she was imagining things because she was so overwhelmed.

“Hey, I told you not to wear those clothes because they make your face look pale.”

To the point of seeming like an auditory hallucination approaching her nose, the dearly missed voice stopped in front of her.

“Why are you crying again, Jane.”
