18 – 18. Baron Kelvin

Time passes equally for everyone.

To the humans below the mountain range, to the dragon celebrating with the Blue Frog Tribe, and to the fairy riding alone in the mountain range.

When a red dragon was spending a long night merrily enjoying a wild festival in front of frogs and a burned-out salamander, there was a small fairy spending a long night alone on a high mountain plateau untouched by humans.

The little fairy, who was cruelly kicked out by her friend during the day (at least that’s what Nynaeve thought!), came back to the cave at night out of curiosity (the dragon might be regretting having kicked her out!), but as usual, Contrary to this, the giant friend of the fairy who always slept in the cave didn’t even show his nose.

“Tch, naughty dragon.”

The little fairy, who had been scolding her friend for no reason out of frustration, wandered aimlessly inside the cave for a few minutes and then came out of the cave.

The inside of the cave was littered with magic crystals that Nynaeve’s small, palm-sized friends had been coveting, but she had no interest in them. All Nineveh really wanted was a giant reptilian friend who always grumbled and played with her. He wasn’t really interested in colorful magic crystals that emitted light themselves.

When Nineveh came out of the cave, the moon rose quietly in the night sky, and a faint halo spread across the sky near the moon. The rising moon evenly embraced everything in the world and illuminated it, but the fairy felt deep loneliness despite the warm moonlit night.

A sense of loneliness that she had forgotten lately.

“Bad dragon.”

It was a night spent alone for Nineveh after a long time. Lately I’ve always been spending long nights with my new friend.

“Fool Dragon.”

The pouty fairy trudged along and sat down under a tree pillar to admire the night sky for a while.

stars and moon.

Things that emit countless lights hanging in the sky.

countless lights.

So many stars existed, but none of them belonged to the little fairy.

Neither the dazzling lights of the villages beneath the mountains nor the lights of the braziers in the swamps belonged to fairies.

The fairy wanted something shiny.

No, it wasn’t exactly what I wanted to shine.

fire.

She wanted the warmth of the light.

Nineveh had been a loner since birth.

There are no parents. I don’t know who it is. The fairy’s parents are said to be nature, but nature also did not show much interest in her. Until she met the dragon, her palm-sized fairy friends, who were her only companions, always laughed at her as being half-hearted and refused to play with her.

They only treated her with a brief smile when she had something to offer them.

Uncle Gomok called her a fairy, but others did not call her a fairy.

The long white snake at the bottom of the river called her wrong, and the cow-headed monster who ate the boar’s ribs with a mouth full of blood laughed at her and called her dirty.

Packs of highland wolves ran away when they smelled her.

Nineve knew that the fairies called Nineve half in front of her, but called Nineb unclean when she was not around. It was a fact that I secretly overheard one day when I was chasing after my friends and stopped behind an old tree out of breath.

The more everyone hated her, the more Nineve wanted everyone.

No, I didn’t want everyone.

She wanted warmth.

appropriate for young children of that age.

Even just one is good, so I sincerely wanted the warmth to be by her side.

shiny thing.

Nineveh, who was sitting hugging her knees under an old tree, suddenly realized that she also had something shiny.

It was the light of the loose, ill-fitting ring hanging from her thumb.

Nineveh raised her hands so that they overlapped in the night sky.

A gold ring that shimmers and reflects the light of the blue moon and the countless stars of the Milky Way.

warmth of the ring.

From a certain moment on, Nineve also had something sparkling.

The light of Nineveh.

Realizing that fact, the little fairy caressed her ring.

“Fool Dragon.”

thinking of her friend.

precious light. shiny thing. warm warmth.

Apparently Nineveh was spending the night alone, but she didn’t feel alone anymore.

“A good dragon.”

The little fairy carefully stroked the insignificant gold ring for a long time before falling asleep quietly under the stars and moonlight.

Baron Kelvin, who succeeded to the title early after his father’s early death, was a young man just over twenty.

As befits a family of knights who rose to the sword, Baron Kelvin was a master of martial arts, a hardened body, and an excellent combatant.

His young body was full of strength, and at the same time, he was unusually skilled in weaponry for a young man, and he knew how to wait patiently for his ambitions.

However, compared to Baron Kelvin’s ambitions, his position was too simple, and the opportunity to get what he wanted did not come easily.

The place the world allowed him was a small piece of land located at the far end of the kingdom, at the border of a mountain range. The title of baron to manage the estate was everything.

It was narrow.

The small position of this baron felt too small for him.

“If everyone has only one life, the right life would be to climb as high as you can and enjoy everything you can.”

Baron Kelvin was never satisfied with the position. What he wanted was countless gold, powerful power that could easily control the life and death of others, and numerous beautiful women who would entertain him by his side.

However, in the small territory he had on the border, let alone countless amounts of gold, he had to hope that the year’s crops would go well so that the farmers would not starve to death, and the title of baron did not have the power to control the life and death of others.

Also, there were no beauties in his territory who could fully satisfy the young man, and the only women he could enjoy were old prostitutes who occasionally came to his territory on commercial trips, and young, sun-tanned country women.

I wasn’t satisfied at all.

Even so, the fact that he could not wield power and harbor women at will made Baron Kelvin frustrated. Because the title he had was only a vassal of the count and a vassal managing the territory granted to him.

It was not a title with the power to kill free people in the territory and take their property at will.

“A dragon, a red dragon.”

Even in this small territory, Baron Kelvin could not become the king he hoped for.

But he never thought the opportunity to get out of here and get the things he wanted would come his way.

It was risky, but with opportunity always comes risk.

Kelvin had always been waiting for an opportunity like this.

“Baron! Baron!”

It was when Baron Kelvin was training as usual. His attendant, who ran to find the baron with a bewildered face, called out to him, saying that there is a big problem.

As usual, the baron ran to the drawing room after wiping off the sweat he had shed with a cloth.

Then there were three men waiting for him.

The old village chief who manages the village of the manor he knew well, the young son he remembered bringing as the son of the village chief who would become the next village chief, and one was a middle-aged man whom he had never seen before.

The middle-aged man seemed unusual even to Baron Kelvin, who was good at martial arts. A well-trained physique, full of scars on parts of his body not covered by clothing, strong grip and a thick neck all at first glance showed that he was a hardened warrior.

And those characteristics of Bolg served as a kind of proof to believe the incredible story he told Baron Kelvin in the future.

“Meet the Baron.”

The old village chief rose from his seat, bowed, and greeted Baron Kelvin politely. Like the village chief, his stupid son, Louis, bowed deeply and greeted the baron, but unlike the polite ones, the middle-aged man only bowed his head and bowed his head in a cheeky greeting.

“My name is Bolg. Sir Kelvin.”

He introduced himself as a knight, Lord Ardamir’s squire Bolg, and said that he had come here with the village chief because he had something to say to the baron.

A vicious red dragon.

The story they brought was a big bad news for Baron Kelvin’s estate, and at the same time it was a great opportunity that Kelvin couldn’t miss.
