sCENE: 35 Mayor of Higashita Town

Back from Little Ghost District, I went to the Explorer's Assembly Hall to meet the Muto people.

Mr. Muto, are you there?

"Whoa, isn't that cozillow? Are you here for a drink?

I shook my head and denied it.

"I've got a serious story for you. Right now, okay?

"Whoa, come on up."

The assembly hall was formerly a pension, so it has been made in a "shaky" fashion. Kuroi and Kashiwaki were drinking in the dining room that was guided. Besides, I'm here until Sakuma.

"What about the other seekers?

"It's still early. I think we'll get together in about two hours. Better after we get together?

"No, I don't mind just Mr. Muto and Mr. Sakuma"

I told him I discovered farmland in Little Ghost District.

"So you're willing to even start farming there?

"Yeah, so I was wondering if you could help the Seekers and Sakuma when you're busy."

Kuroi asked the question while drinking.

"How big is that farmland?

"About 150 ears, so maybe 1.5 hectares"

"I've never farmed before, so I don't even know what they say in hectares."

"Can you imagine if the Tokyo Dome said it was 4.7 hectares?

"Heh, about a third of the Tokyo Dome. I feel like it's huge, but it's subtle."

Sakuma laughed listening to me and Kuroi.

"The question is how much food can be harvested from that farmland"

I got a sinister face. Some of the books scratched from the houses of the Little Ghost District were agriculturally related, some of which contained the regurgitation of each crop. Recovery is the amount of crop that can be harvested per ten ears.

"Three to four tons per ten earls for sweet potatoes, about three tons for potatoes, about 300 kilos for wheat and 150 kilos for soybeans..."

When I taught him the retraction of each crop I examined in the book, Kuroi sparkled his eyes.

"Not so..."

"But this is a record produced by agricultural professionals, so if we amateurs start farming, we don't know how many."

When I hear that, Muto and Sakuma look dismayed.

"But sweet potatoes and potatoes, they say, are relatively easy, so I'm going to start with those two... how about that?

Muto nodded.

"Well, those two seed potatoes are preserved by Yoshino-san."

Yoshino, a farmer, was the first to worry about food when people chased from different beasts fled into town. So they planted potatoes and sweet potatoes in empty plastic houses, and now they save large quantities of immortals after harvesting them.

"Imo... I want rice too"

Sakuma said potpourri. The farmland we found is hard to rice cultivate because it's on a mountain.

"The only way to do that is to find land that could be made into paddy fields."

I have heard that Xiaoghui District was originally a land with sprawling paddy fields. If you look, there will be places where you can go back to the paddy fields. I actively searched for that kind of land and suggested I return to the paddy fields.

Sakuma, the carpenter, laughed happily.

"I have to do something, too, to thank you for calling me."

"Fine. Sakuma and the others are doing an important job of keeping an eye on the beasts from entering town."

The job of watching is surprisingly important. A strange beast who never tries to get to another strange beast territory, but who tries to get into a human territory.

"That's not how it works. How about I build you a house?"

"Home? Isn't it a luxury at this time of year?

"I have an extra house."

I tilted my neck without understanding.

Sakuma's story says he had plans to build a log house vacation rental in the eastern corner of the mountains. The plan itself was cancelled due to the noise of the beast, but the building materials in the log house have been purchased and stored in a warehouse in Grass Dragon District, he said.

"Grass Dragon Ward, or where the East Lower Town guys are active."

I was hearing from Muto where the guys from Higashita Town were active. They work around the Grass Dragon District, the southern neighborhood of the Little Ghost District, and the Little Beast District, south of it.

"Grass Dragon District is a land that was a mountain town. There was a big construction company over there, lots of warehouses."

Sakuma and the carpenters apparently worked as subcontractors for that large construction company.

"Didn't the guys in Higashita take it?

"No, the warehouse where the log house building materials are stored is a warehouse near the park to the west. It's a hard place to tell, and I have the keys, so it's okay."

Sakuma said he contracted the building of the log house and encountered an emergency while renting the keys to the warehouse. My client is missing, and he's probably dead.

"What kind of interval is that log house?

"Two-story, five LDK intervals."

The water supply, bath, toilet, heating, etc. has to be renovated, but the others are said to be usable as is.

"Why didn't you go get the building materials for the log house before?

"I didn't need it because I have a home. Besides, you're gonna have to go at night to steal the eyes of the guys in East Lower Town to get them. I thought it was dangerous."

That's when Elena ran into the assembly hall.

Mr. Kojiro, there's a searcher from Higashita coming to Kato Hospital.

Muto and I hurried to Kato Hospital.

"Doctor, are you okay?

When I entered the hospital, Kato was surrounded by several men.

One of the guys turned his gaze on me and it was amazing.

"Don't come in here without permission."

I ignored the man and interrupted in front of Kato.

"This is Kato Hospital. It's not your house."

"Who are you?

"It's Moki the Seeker. Dr. Kato is a doctor in Higashigami. I will not tolerate violence."

At that moment, I feel tremendous pressure to get up. It was a killing spree released from a sharp eyed man who was behind the men.

"You're young, you seem to do a little. But the world is wide open. You don't think there's someone stronger than you?

"I know that. But that's the same for you guys."

"Ha, I won't tell you. But you're mistaken. We weren't waging violence against Dr. Kato."

"Then what were you doing? He just seemed like he was threatening you."

"I just heard where the Emperor is."

I blushed.

"You... you know where the Emperor is?

"Oh, the Emperor went to the hospital in the Little Ghost District and was killed by a monster in the Farmers' Association Building"

The sharp man stared at me.

"How do you know that?

"I chased the Emperors, who were violent with Kato Sensei and took the drugs."

"You said Moki. Come to City Hall in East Lower Town and have the Mayor explain"

"Fine."

I moved to the river with the men. A small boat is moored on the riverbank and crosses to the opposite bank on it.

I saw a tiller moving on farmland in East Lower Town. Looks like this town has fuel reserves. Maybe it's rations from the central government.

I walk to the old public hall, which I now use as City Hall.

Apparently, the top floor of the building is in the mayor's office. We went up the stairs to the mayor's office. When I went inside, I found a familiar face.

It is the Mayor of this city of Jesuit, the Orthodox Church of the Hand. A badly eyed man in his fifties is sitting in a chair. I think you deserve a Yakuza leader rather than a politician.

"Ryuzaki, who is that young man?

"This is the man who said he knew where the Emperor was."

I briefly told him that the Emperor and his people were thought to have been killed by the monsters and hobgoblins of the Farmers' Association Building.

"You didn't see him get killed, did you?

"Yeah, but I'm pretty sure no one came back from the hospital."

I didn't mean to be honest.

"Why didn't you go check it out?

Ryuzaki explained the monster threat in the Farmers' Association building.

"Chip, the guys in Higashigami are full of useless people. Ryuzaki, can you defeat the monster in the Farmers' Association Building?

"You won't know until you try to fight. But I'm sure he's not an easy match to beat."

"Do you ask the government to support a powerful weapon? What do you think?"

"You'll be demanding a lot of cardiac stones. We better wait for ourselves to raise our arms than that."

The mayor wants to make enemies of the Emperor. I didn't think he was a man worth fighting for, but I guess it's because he's in there.

"Hey, you were a Seeker too. Tell the Seekers of Higashigami to deliver the Heart Stone to the City."

"Don't be an idiot. Higashikami-cho didn't get any rations or anything. You don't do anything to me, but you can't pay a heart stone like a tax."

In my words, the mayor bit his lips off.
