The Way of the Center

Chapter 3: : Start of preparation

Many people have entered the basketball court one after another. They all surrounded the court without exception, watching the duel between the two big men on the court. The training has not yet started, but the two people on the field are already sweating profusely.

"Okay, lads, come and assemble." Ricard cleared his throat, and the roaring voice overshadowed the discussion crowd, and everyone turned their heads to him.

The crowd who heard the coach's shout slowly dispersed and gathered in the past honestly. Only Andrew Morris and Anjie are still competing, and no one is willing to leave the court first.

"It seems that you are too energetic. I can only count 500 push-ups for each of you!" Ricard severely reprimanded the competing two. He was a stern head coach when he coached high school. This will not change when I arrive at the university.

"Oh! It's early!" At this time, the door of the stadium was pushed open, breaking the dead silence of the basketball court after being scolded by the head coach.

A middle-aged man with gray hair and beard walked in. He looked older than Ricard. This person is formally dressed, meticulous, and feels very energetic.

"Hey, Moore." Ricard simply shook hands with the visitor. This man is Ricard's assistant coach, but also Ricard's predecessor.

"Okay, thank you for coming to the basketball court on time. I just counted and no one was late. It seems that everyone here still has a correct attitude."

"Everyone knows that our school’s performance in recent years has not been very satisfactory. It has been unable to participate in the elimination rounds of March Madness for several years. I know that some of you have been on the team last year, but I still have to say, you It’s a bad fight, and the results are in front of everyone."

"Heh, do you think college basketball is easy?" A player whispered underneath. He should be one of the "old players" of the school team last year.

"When you talk to me in the future, you must add coach in front of the name." Ricard's ears were bright, and he quickly pushed back loudly.

"I've never watched college basketball as a child, nor did I say that it is a simple matter to rush into the March Madness Knockout. Because of this, your training will be very hard in the future, and the failure will end here. There will be no more casual games. You almost have to sacrifice all your spare time on the basketball court. Of course, I promise you one day of vacation a week.

"Oh, **** it!" At this point, there was a lot of discussion underneath.

Ricard ignored the discussion of the crowd, and continued to speak for himself.

"Training is not allowed to be late. I mean that if the training starts at five o'clock, those who arrive after four and fifty are considered late. One minute late is a return run fifty times. Of course, don’t forget that one round trip is counted once. . It’s also not allowed to ask for leave without reason. Going to the movies with your girlfriend? Please wait until the day of vacation. In other words, except for the day of vacation, your only life is going to class and playing basketball. Other than that You still have to obey my training plan and talk back to me? Five hundred push-ups. You can do it if you don’t want to. Get out of the gym and don’t come back. Gentlemen, who is not satisfied now? You can quit, and I will never stop it. ." Ricard turned his body sideways to the gymnasium gate and made a please gesture.

As soon as the voice fell, three people walked out with dissatisfaction, and walked straight out of the gate of the gymnasium. "What do you think you are doing? We are not prisoners. Let's take these idiots to your March Madness." The scolding of dissatisfaction continued to echo in the big basketball court.

"They were the top three players in our scoring list last season." Old Moore quietly reminded Ricard in his ear. Moore has been an assistant coach at Iowa State University for five years. He is an experienced right-hand man and can be of great help to Ricard, who has just joined the team.

"Then I guess we will have new scoring points this season. They are not worthy of my team. Our goals and pursuits are completely different." Ricard didn't even look at them.

"Congratulations, you have three fewer competitors. Just now you saw that the two big men are inextricably beaten." Everyone turned their eyes to Anjie and Morris.

"Don't forget that you have fierce competition here. Now half of the people who stay will not be able to play with us in the new season. The quality of the game is not the first in my judgment. I care more about it. It is your determination and attitude. Maybe you can bear it now, but after a period of training, you may choose to leave like the three just now."

"Now I can't teach you how to play basketball well, until your physical condition can reach the level I want to teach." When saying this, Ricard glanced at An Jie. There are many things this guy needs to improve, but his physical fitness moves closer to professionalism is the first step he must do.

"Running back and forth, it's easy. Now you all get me moving, we will only practice this today, let me see if you can do the most basic for me first." Ricard took out from his pocket Up the whistle.

  ………………..

After everyone stood in a row on the bottom line, Ricard sounded a whistle, and the quiet basketball court was immediately filled with the sound of basketball soles rubbing against the wooden floor.

"How many times are we going to run? Coach." a player asked loudly.

"Oh, it depends on how many times you can run in an hour. Don't be lazy, don't you understand the return run? You have to touch the bottom line before you can return!"

"Hey, I've never seen boys in this basketball court train so obediently before." Old Moore smiled and looked at the figure running in the field.

"The last coach was a little too loose with them, which caused many old players to get used to laziness. Now we have found so many new people to compete with them, who would dare to neglect. And among these fresh blood, a few are really good. The guy who is worthy of training." Speaking of this, Ricard's gaze fell on An Jie unconsciously.

"You really have you, kid." Moore patted Ricard on the shoulder. He hasn't looked forward to the new season for a long time. What kind of team would such a person train? The collaboration with this new partner must be very interesting.

  ………………..

After running for half an hour, An Jie was already soaked in sweat, his chest fluctuated more and more, and he was already out of breath.

The confrontation with Morris just made him consume too much energy, and he has never done so systematically in high-intensity exercise. An Jie's footsteps gradually slowed down, and both legs seemed to be filled with lead, and it was very difficult to lift them up. This is the first time he has received formal basketball training in his life, but it is very different from the interesting training with the ball he imagined.

"What's the matter? Can't you take a step?" Morris ran up from behind An Jie, he was also sweating, but his speed was almost the same as when he first started.

Looking at Morris, who gradually moved away from him, Anjie was speechless. Although he was not convinced, he could only watch Morris' back further and further away from him.

Six or seven people have come off the court, either lying on the floor panting, or looking for water everywhere, they all gave up the first event of the first training. The non-stop running back and forth lasted for an hour, which is really not everyone can hold on.

And all the training after today is exactly as Ricard said, there is nothing but the return run. After running a round, rest, and then run the next round after the rest, even for a minute without letting the players touch the basketball. In this way, everyone ended their first basketball training against the sunset.

  ………………..

An Jie walked in the corridor of the dormitory empty, feeling boring. After the training, he had to go to a fast food restaurant part-time. It took several hours to stand in front of the ordering table, and he wished he had the opportunity to sit for that minute.

Coincidentally, the business of the fast-food restaurant that night was so good, with a steady stream of customers, An Jie never had the opportunity to rest.

"Oh my God! Did you go to the fighting team in the wrong place?" Jason, who was playing computer games at the table, saw An Jie who was limping after entering the door and fell directly on the bed, and he threw it down. The mouse curiously stepped forward to observe if there were any "parts" missing from An Jie's body.

"Damn, where are you going to touch it!"

"Hey, I have never seen you like this before. You are a tired lunatic who doesn't know how to play basketball."

"Who the **** told you that we were playing basketball this afternoon, and that coach made us all run for an afternoon of reentry." An Jie felt even weaker when he recalled the painful experience.

"It must be that the basketball team has performed poorly these years, and the school is about to transform you into a track and field team." Jason looked at his roommate sympathetically, thanking him for not being selected by the coach. He returned to the computer and continued to play the game while talking to An Jie.

"If you want me to say that you can just quit, you won't even let you touch basketball in any basketball training. Why don't you think we two go to play wild ball?"

An Jie did not respond to him for a long time. He had fallen asleep just now.

"Damn it." Jason looked at his roommate who had fallen asleep, and went back to the game world with concentration.

  ……………….

is 2.19 meters tall and has a wingspan of 2.34 meters. This kind of guy came to the United States not to play basketball, but to study abroad.

Looking at the physical examination data of the players after the training, Ricard was stunned by An Jie's information. In fact, why does An Jie not want to enter the door of professional sports? It's just that in the eyes of most Chinese families, the job of professional athletes is so remote.

"My dear, are you still asleep?" Peggy made a cup of hot coffee for her husband and walked to Ricard who was still working.

"Oh, I didn't even realize it was so late." Ricard took the coffee from his wife and held his wife's hand on his shoulder.

"It's only early September, two months before the start of the new season, what are you researching?" Peggy picked up the player report on the table and read it casually.

"We are a team that hasn't reached the NCAA knockout stage for 22 years~www.NovelMTL.com~ There is so much to do. Not only do we have to study the opponents' players, but I also know my own players. Very few. Moreover, I also found a player worthy of focus on training. How to guide him correctly is also a very troublesome thing."

"Well, no one can cross all the steps in one step, you should go to rest."

   "Huh." Ricard stretched.

"You are right, I have to continue tossing those guys tomorrow."

  ………………..

The first day of training is over. Other schools have just started, and the team has not even assembled. But Ricard began preparations for the new season two months in advance, even for professional players, this is a very long period of preparation.

Let the results have a breakthrough, which is one of his goals this season. To do this, two months are already very urgent for him.

And his second goal is to rack his brains to figure out how to develop the Asian "gold mine" he found is the best. He is not a dedicated center coach, maybe he needs to add some new faces to the coaching staff if he wants to have a better effect.

The two-month preparation period, the players who can make it to the end will be the players he wants and the players who can lead the team to victory.

During the two-month preparation period, if An Jie can survive the training and survive the trial training, then his chances of success will be even greater.
