2 – Episode 2: Traitors

‘Did I hear it wrong?’

Perplexed by the announcement content completely different from his expectations, Wolfgang turned his head again to look at Chae Wonso.

“Wonso, what on earth is this…?”

Before the question could be fully asked, Chae Wonso’s fist struck Wolfgang’s abdomen.

Her ‘ki’ began to penetrate his abdomen, turning his internal organs upside down.

The pain was so excruciating it felt like he was dying.

Wolfgang, who had experienced firsthand the need to be cautious of the ‘ki’ used by martial artists to inflict fatal injuries, was realizing this.

“Much more painful than I thought.”

He quickly focused his mind and grabbed hold of Chaewon-so’s energy trying to spread throughout his body.

Having occasionally learned Eastern martial arts techniques, he knew some ways to cope.

As if Wolfgang expected him to defend against her technique, she shook the fist embedded in his abdomen, causing droplets hanging from the sleeves of his clothes to collide.

Then, blue energy sprayed out like several strands of thread around the fist.

The elements quickly caught them, swirled them in the air a few times, and soon transformed into a net-like shape that rapidly extended towards Wolfgang.

Desperately trying to pierce through the net, Wolfgang’s efforts were in vain.

A large hole appeared where the fist had swung, but it was short-lived; it quickly healed and resumed the net’s form.

In the end, Chaewon-so’s martial arts completely enveloped his body.

“Ha… This style doesn’t suit my taste.”

Wolfgang tried to break free from the net with all his strength, but for some reason, he couldn’t muster the power.

‘What… Why is my strength…’

Only then did he notice the fallen soldiers scattered around him.

Seeing some covering their noses, Wolfgang became certain.

‘Damn. No wonder she didn’t let me touch her with my mouth.’

Adeus had not drunk a drop of alcohol throughout the banquet.

He wasn’t someone who regularly enjoyed alcohol, but it was unusual for him to abstain in such a situation.

‘I thought he was just refraining due to the upcoming announcement of the succession to the throne.’

‘What’s the reason for trying to catch me even resorting to poisoning the alcohol?’

Wolfgang turned his head and looked at the platform where the warrior and queen were.

He made eye contact with them, who had strange expressions.

‘Whose idea was this?’

Trying to calm his boiling anger and think rationally, Wolfgang attempted to make sense of it.

He couldn’t come up with a reasonable explanation.

He had dedicated his entire being to fighting against demons.

And in the end, he defeated the archdemon, bringing peace to humanity.

Born as the son of a tenant farmer, the youth lived an uneventful life until he was transformed into a warrior.

Bestowed with powers by the god, he was blessed and appointed as the wielder of the Holy Sword.

Caught in the Queen’s gaze, he was now the one destined to ascend to the throne.

To Wolfgang, Adeus was practically a son.

Why would such a person suddenly orchestrate such a thing?

It seemed like the Queen’s plan.

No.

The Council’s plan.

No.

Nothing seemed to fit quite right.

Even as Wolfgang tried to find a reason, there was no clear justification.

Instead, it only made his thoughts more tangled.

“Hey! Warrior! Can we stop this now? If there’s an issue, let’s resolve it through conversation!”

Despite Wolfgang’s outcry, Adeus remained motionless, reaching out to send a signal somewhere.

Swiftly, someone else ran up and climbed onto Wolfgang’s back.

It was Tendrial, another high-ranking member of the faction.

“Boss. I’m sorry; it had to be done.”

“Tendrial… Please, I beg you. Don’t…”

Before Adeus could finish speaking, Tendrial’s blade pierced his throat.

Hot blood began to flow down his body.

Tendrial didn’t stop; he continued to drive the blade into the massive body.

Despite enduring dozens of brutal stabs, Wolfgang only flinched slightly, taking no other action.

Even as flesh tore and blood spurted, there was no sign of pain.

He simply lowered his head, seemingly lost in thought, letting the flowing blood drench his body as he slowly exhaled.

After a moment, when he lifted his head, a vivid flame began to envelop his body.

Weaker than his usual usage, but still a potent and intense blaze.

“Oops, it’s hot!”

Tendrial, who had been thrusting his dagger, recoiled as Wolfgang’s body separated from him.

Even the martial arts technique that had enveloped his body was gradually fading away in the embrace of the flames.

‘Even in this state… he emits flames?’

Tendrial brushed off the flames clinging to her body and pulled out a glass bottle from her belt, pouring its transparent contents into her mouth.

Then, closing her eyes, she began to concentrate.

She felt a sensation as if every muscle in her body was being rebuilt.

Her breath quickened, and blood raced through her entire body.

Every cell and even the tiniest sensations were felt with meticulous detail.

“There it is!”

As Tendrial opened her eyes, she leaped from the ground with a powerful thrust.

For that moment, there was nothing in the world faster than her.

Everything, except herself, felt like it was moving in slow motion.

In a blink, the elf drew her dagger again, fixating on the bleeding wound, and leaped toward Wolfang’s neck.

Though the flames touched his flesh, thanks to the potion, it wasn’t scalding.

Wolfang would collapse without even knowing how he was attacked.

“I got him!”

Everything around still moved in slow motion.

The queen and the warrior observing her from the altar, and even Chaewonso, who was right in front, sweating profusely while using martial arts, all seemed frozen.

She shifted her gaze to Wolfang’s wound.

The spouting blood seemed to freeze in mid-air.

It was evident that even the mighty Wolfang couldn’t keep up with the speed.

Confidently, she grasped the knife in reverse and, with all her strength, raised it to plunge into the wound.

At the moment when Wolfang’s head, seemingly frozen in place, suddenly turned to look at her.

“…Caught up with the speed?”

Tendrial’s face betrayed her surprise.

Wolfang’s bloodshot eyes stared at her intently.

His gaze was more terrifying than anything she had faced before.

The hand holding the dagger began to tremble.

Like a herbivore standing before a predator, her whole body froze.

“Tendrial! Snap out of it!”

Chaewonso shouted towards the distracted her.

The net created by the martial arts was on the verge of being consumed by Wolfang’s flames.

At this rate, the restraint would undoubtedly be released within 1 or 2 minutes.

Wolfgang stared at the assassin perched on his neck and began muttering incomprehensible words.

Then, blood started flowing from Tendrial’s mouth.

“Ugh…”

With a single groan, she weakly fell to the ground.

Observing her in that state, Wolfgang let out a deep sigh.

“…Damn it… What’s all this about… Why go this far, all of you?”

His tone was casual, but a sense of life and anger could be felt.

Wolfgang turned his head towards the next target.

Making eye contact, Cheon So-won urgently requested help in a desperate voice.

“Casey! Hurry! Please hurry!”

Bang! Bang!

From the corner of the second-floor balcony, along with the sound of two gunshots, Casey’s rifle spewed flames.

The fired magic stones flew towards Wolfgang’s neck and pierced it.

Wolfgang, with an expression as if annoyed like a mosquito had bitten him, pulled out one of them, looking towards the balcony where the gunshots echoed.

At that moment, an enormous explosion occurred along with a tremendous noise.

Black smoke filled the hall along with scattered dust.

Amidst the black smoke, a giant silhouette stood upright.

Despite being precisely hit in the vital spot, Wolfgang showed no signs of any impact, instilling fear in her.

“What the hell! What’s going on with this guy?”

Desperately reloading the rifle with magic stones, she muttered.

In that moment, she felt something rapidly approaching through the dissipating smoke.

Feeling the threat, Casey hastily aimed the gun in that direction, but Wolfgang’s hand, emerging through the smoke, grabbed the rifle.

“I have no idea what’s going on, Commander.”

“Commander… I mean…”

Looking at the giant fist approaching before her eyes, Casey felt the terror of imminent death.

Just as the fist was about to touch her face, a silver shield penetrated the gap.

Ping!

Wolfgang’s fist was blocked by Haganess.

“…Step aside, Haganess. I won’t kill her.”

“…”

“I’m just trying to ask them why they’re doing this. If I don’t subdue them, it seems they won’t listen.”

“Sorry… Wolfgang, this seems to be the only way…”

“No… Did you say sorry?”

Wolfgang looked at Haganess, who blocked himself with a blank expression, as if losing his sanity.

“Haganess… you too?”

“It must have been difficult… now, take a break.”

Haganess whispered softly behind genuine concern.

Then Wolfgang’s lower lip began to pale.

“Haha… a pungent scent… strange…”

Wolfgang collapsed to the floor, losing consciousness without finishing his sentence.
