45. Mud clinging to the heart

45.

There was nothing inside a hut that suddenly appeared.

It was burdensome, irritating, and uncomfortable. It felt like the mud of heavy emotions had clotted my heart.

Zerpied looked around without going inside the cabin. They had entered at least eighty cubits into the field, so as not to be noticed by those using the road. That is why, there were still fields of wheat and barley in all directions. Little by little the road began to become one with the horizon.

The only thing worth noting in that field of gold was this hut. Unlike before, the light shimmered. And that meant that if I didn’t go inside this cabin, I would have to sleep.

Zer Pied tried to ask her saintess what it would be like to be homeless, but gave up. Either way, homelessness comes with a lot of exhaustion and potential dangers. There’s no guarantee that highwaymen won’t show up. Zerfied slowly entered the cabin. It didn’t feel like a presence at all.

After examining the walls and floor a few times, she nodded towards her saintess waiting outside. Esilia, her body rigid from her tension, stretched her body out with a slight sense of relief at the sight of Zer Pied’s actions. The Death Knight helped her saintess get off her horse and then wrapped her body in her cloak.

The saintess turned her head around and looked inside her cabin, then went to her corner and lightly leaned her buttocks on the floor. Zer Pied approached the saintess and wrapped her cloak around her. The cabin was closed on all sides except for the door, and there was no wind.

No matter how cool the autumn wind is, it becomes quite harsh at night, letting you know that you can drop the leaves yourself. In that respect, this place, which blocks the bitter wind, should provide coziness. But the two couldn’t feel that comfort.

Rather than disappearing, that muddy feeling stuck even more. Ecilia bowed her head. From the way she looked, she looked like she was going to sleep.

It’s been at least an hour since her saintess leaned over her body, but the Death Knight knew that she couldn’t sleep on her own. Her breathing was irregular. Rather, she was quite unstable. Zerfied looked at Ecilia for a while before asking a question.

“Ecilia, are you okay?”

Escelia raised her head at the words of the escort knight. A smile hung on her lips. But the corners of her mouth were quivering. Ecilia wiggled her mouth for a moment, then she said.

“Mr. We… Are you okay?”

Zer Pied stared at Esilia at her red and blue eyes. For some reason, she seemed to see more of herself in her eyes, not her. Death Knight muttered lowly.

“It will be fine.”

She couldn’t be sure if she contained certainty while she said it herself. She wished he had, she thought. The saintess smiled even more. It was a saintly act. The smile she gave comfort to others did not bring her comfort to the Death Knight. She didn’t know if she did it on purpose, even though he didn’t convince her. He acted instead of talking.

The Death Knight wrapped her own cloak around her even more. The saintess’s eyes softened. She leaned against her wall, clutching in her hand part of her cloak that had been wrapped around her by her own escort knight. Now they feel a little more secure about talking about their situation. Feeling that the mud in her heart had been shaken off a little, the saintess pursed her soft lips.

“Chief, this is the….”

Jer Piede nodded her head.

“Honestly, I wish it wasn’t. However, I can’t easily get rid of the idea that it’s similar to that nameless village in the Central Continent.”

The saintess slightly bit her lip at the escort knight’s answer. As she looked at him, Celia’s eyes fluttered slightly. Her saintess’s lips were warm again. Before her lips could completely fall, the Death Knight struck. He took her canteen from her backpack and held it out to Esilia. Ecilia took her canteen and tilted her head instead of speaking her words.

“Drink. You are tired.”

“Huh? Yes?”

“Escelia, you haven’t slept properly all this while curled up on her deck. A few hours of sleep at an inn won’t ease the fatigue of a few days. So, quench your thirst.”

Cilia nodded her head, opened the mouth of her canteen, and brought it to her lips. The white nape of her neck twitched up and down her. Seeing that she was drinking her water well, Jer Pied said:

“Get some sleep, Ecilia.”

“No, but… that….”

“Esilia.”

The escort knight spoke softly. His voice was lower than usual, giving off a more serious atmosphere. The saintess only blinked her big eyes. Death Knight started talking again.

“Ecilia, why are you worried?”

“… Yes?”

It was hard for Celia to hide her perplexity at those words. Why are you worried It is only natural to worry about her as it involves her own life. It’s an extremely common sense fact, but Death Knight continued talking as if he didn’t care about that.

“Why are you worried? Even if you worry, I will do it. It is my job to protect you from harm, not yourself. I’m an escort knight, and if the target of the escort is worried about me, that wouldn’t be a good escort knight. Wouldn’t it be? Ah, Ecilia. Come to think of it, you are making me a very bad escort knight.”

She used to say that she was scolding her, but she was awkward. Ecilia was strangely reassured by Zer Pied’s awkward words, and her eyes slightly curled. Her giggling laughter leaked from the corner of her saintess’s mouth as well. Ecilia held out her canteen to the escort with a soft smile. It was at this moment that he tilted her head, not knowing the meaning of the canteen being held out to her.

“Drink.”

“Hmm?”

“Drink, driver. The driver is tired too.”

“No… I don’t need to drink water…. Besides, are you tired? I do not feel fatigue either.”

“Of course you won’t get tired physically, but there is also a mental part.”

“As I said, I don’t really….”

“Sup! Is that arm numb? Are you going to let it go on like this?”

Zer Pied had no choice but to accept her canteen at Ecilia’s words. He accepted her and tried to get over her situation, but he brought the mouthpiece of her canteen to her mouth without hesitation at the sight of the saintess staring at herself with her big eyes wide open.

His throat twitched as the soft liquid ran down his throat. The saintess looked at it and slowly moved her eyes blankly, but when her bloody eyes met her eyes, she hurriedly lowered her head.

Zer Pied was slightly embarrassed by such a saintly figure, but soon after seeing her rubbing her eyelids with her hands, she fell asleep and thought it was like that. As he rubbed her eyelids, Celia immediately raised her head and smiled.

But her laughter didn’t last long. The saintess laughed for a while, then left her head in gravity and nodded. Her half-closed eyes were completely closed, and her head and body, which had been nodding off, leaned against him. After watching the saintess breathe regularly, Zer Peed stared at the door of her cabin.

She said that to Lady, but she couldn’t easily ease her tension. Death Knight thought she shouldn’t do that, but rather something would appear and attack. Mud still seemed to cling to his heart.

The nameless empty village I saw in the Central Continent was related to an organization called ‘Organization’. And the hut they were staying in also had similar characteristics to that village. However, there was no moonlight today, and it was difficult to ascertain whether this was a place related to the ‘organization’ or not.

Zerpied felt the thought of wanting to attack once again crept into his mind. Then I’d rather be clear. There is nothing more unsettling than a potential adversary whose identity, size, or strength is unknown. Zer Pied passed a little water down his throat and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.

Surprised by what he had done, he lowered his head and looked at the canteen in his left hand. He seemed to have drunk the water unconsciously, probably because he was lost in thought. He slightly stretched out his right arm to pick up the canteen’s cap to close it. At that moment, I felt the presence of what was touching his arm. She was a saint

Once I realized that fact, other facts came to my mind like a chain explosion. Ecilia just drank some water…. She handed me the canteen…. I also drank water from that canteen…. To drink water, the lips must touch the mouth of the bottle…. Ecilia put her lips together and drank…. So did I….

Zerpied had a hard time continuing his thoughts.

He hurriedly set his canteen down on the floor and closed the lid with his left hand. And he glared at the door with a sharper gaze than before, as if someone were attacking him and stabbed him to death. Zerfied really hoped that someone would attack him, even though he shouldn’t.

Celia stretched her head on her horse. The barley and wheat beside her were still immersed in shadow. Eventually, the skin of darkness slowly peels off and light begins to emerge. The emerging light and the locked darkness mix together and become watery. This time, where darkness and light are so indistinguishable, it seems as if the world has stopped. Birth is instantaneous.

As if exploding, the sunrise bursts out from the distant hills and pours into the world. Ecilia smiled like a sunrise as she watched the sky and land suddenly brighten up. Even the fields where she sleeps wake up and dance in gold. The wind also gives itself to the sunrise and runs wildly. Escelia closed her eyes tightly as she grabbed her hair and teased her.

Less than an hour had passed since she left the cabin. The cabin was still in sight. Of course, since there are no obstacles blocking the view, even if it goes a couple of hours longer, it will still be caught in the view like a dot. Zer Pied turned his head, stared at the cabin behind him for a moment, then dismounted.

“Huh? Driver, what’s going on?”

Suddenly seeing the escort knight on the horse, Ecilia asked a question. Zer Pied wordlessly reached out her hand for her own shadow. The shadows shuddered and shuddered. Some of the rising shadows began to take shape.

It was the rapier and Mangoche given by Chief Pelsire and Renemie. Ecilia’s eyes widened spontaneously at the unexpected sight. Zerfied grabbed the two weapons that rose up.

“That, that… Wasn’t it possible to put only the knight’s shield and spear?”

“Yes.”

“Yeah, but how… ?”

“I pretended.”

“Mimic?”

Jer Piede nodded her head.

“As you said, I cannot put anything that is not part of me into me. So I had to transform the rapier and mangoche. To feel like a part of me. I had no choice but to feed a little more of my blood. Even so, no matter how much I feed it, the period of storage is temporary. Just because the time is up.”

It was for this reason that the troll guards did not find any weapons on them when they left Ehardo. Mangoshu, a dagger. No matter how you hide it, a rapier is a long sword. No matter how short the rapier given by Chief Pelsier was less than 2 cubits long, it was never long enough to fit in a backpack.

As the escort knight said, the dagger and longsword he was holding smelled of blood. She had seen a lot of her blood, but her saintess backed away slightly involuntarily at the horror reminiscent of her battlefield. Seeing Ecilia’s hardened face, Zerpied immediately apologized.

“Oh, sorry. I didn’t think in advance that I would smell blood because my senses are dull.”

Before Ecilia could say anything, the Death Knight began wiping the two weapons with her cloak. After a certain amount of time, Zerfied handed over the two weapons to Esilia.

There was a strange warmth to it, probably because the two weapons were wiped with a leather-like cloak. It was fall weather and it was morning when the sunrise had just begun, so the lingering chilliness went away somewhat when I received the weapon. Ecilia liked its warmth. The saintess smiled as she embraced her weapon, as if she had just remembered, “Ah!” She raised her head and asked a question.

“Then why are you giving this to me all of a sudden?”

“… Just in case.”

The words could be interpreted in many ways, but the clever saintess realized the true meaning of the escort knight’s words. I’m not sure, but it meant to protect yourself in case something like that happened in Charcot Village. Ethilia nodded and hugged her weapon further.

After a brief refreshment with the dried squid she bought from Ehardo, she took a short break by washing the cold in the sunlight. After running for about a couple of hours, something suddenly appeared in front of them.

‘It’s a village.’

Thinking so, Zer Pied frowned slightly between her brows. Because she’s freaky when you think about it. Why is the village in the middle of a cluster of wheat and barley? They were well off the road so as not to be noticed. If it’s a village, it should be formed at least near the road.

It seemed rather to have multiplied the number of huts of yesterday. It was smaller in size than the Nameless Village in the Central Continent, but with similar features to the Nameless Village, Zer Pied returned his horse from a distance and approached slowly. She could feel his body tremble as she wrapped herself in his cloak. As they approached the place, something unimaginable came out. Normally, it would never be strange, but it is even more difficult to imagine now.

It was a person.
