23 – The Curse Everyone Knows

“Feeling better?”

Repair, who left the study after causing a big shock, caught up with Logan right away.

“A little. Considering the persecution from the family, I can’t feel completely at ease with just this.”

The only change for Logan was that the curse had been lifted.

He couldn’t immediately overturn the family, nor could he speak harshly to the Marquis.

Now that the curse was lifted, he could attend the academy normally and find a way to resolve his relationship with his family. However, this would also mean that Logan would be the one solving his family’s wrongdoings, and he had no desire to stay in this damn place that made him nauseous just by looking at it.

That’s why he came with the intention of cutting ties altogether and leaving for good.

“Still, I’m grateful to my uncle for many things.”

He was almost the only person in the family who cared for Logan, who everyone else thought of as an enemy.

Even if he hadn’t received direct support due to the curse, his uncle’s efforts for Logan shouldn’t be underestimated.

“If you’re that grateful, at least keep in touch. You can send me a personal letter from time to time.”

“I’ll consider it.”

“And make sure to eat well. What’s the use of a man if he’s not healthy? A child who wields a sword…”

Repair couldn’t imagine Logan being discriminated against to the point where he couldn’t afford to buy his own meals.

Although he had been deprived by the family, he still thought he could earn enough money on his own to afford his meals.

“I won’t wield a sword anymore.”

“What?”

Logan, who had asked for a sword and followed him around since he was young, was a fervent student who had even been brought a teacher from the family. It was hard to believe that he, who was so passionate, would give up the sword so easily.

“I never thought I had such extraordinary talent to survive by the sword.”

“Well, your judgment won’t be wrong. There’s not much else to say.”

Logan was a clever kid.

If that’s how he is, then so be it.

“I’ll be heading out slowly. We need to depart now to arrive at the academy without delay.”

“Take this.”

Repare extended a pocket to Logan.

With the sound of a jingling, it seemed to be a money pouch without much to see.

“It’s all the allowance I couldn’t give you until now. It’s not a lavish amount, but it should help a bit in your independence.”

“It’s okay.”

“Take it. If you don’t, your uncle won’t let you go.”

Because Repare came off so stern, Logan accepted the offered money pouch without further resistance.

“I believe you can handle any situation, but if it gets tough, come find me. I’ll do my best to support you.”

“If your uncle faces difficulties, come to me as well. I’ll do my best to assist.”

“Hahaha.”

Repare laughed heartily at Logan’s bold words and ruffled his hair.

Although Logan felt a bit teary-eyed at the warmth he hadn’t felt in a long time, he had sealed away such emotions for too long, so there was no significant outward reaction.

“Well then, I’ll really be going. Stay well and don’t get hurt.”

“Yeah, you too. Take care of yourself and eat properly.”

The parting of the two was finally concluded.

They hadn’t seen each other for a lifetime, so it wasn’t as sad as it was before.

*******

The subjugation of the worst witch, Stella, was practically being acknowledged.

Even though there was one gate left, there was no biological response, and major incidents that would have occurred periodically were no longer happening.

“Wow, that woman was really insane.”

When I searched Stella’s mansion, all sorts of extraordinary items came out.

The elixirs and spell books used for curses were abundant.

In some rooms, there were human skulls, and there were also creatures like cows and horses lying dead with their internal organs exposed.

The investigation took a long time due to the mansion’s size and complexity, but as all the magic Stella had placed in the mansion had disappeared, the investigation was proceeding diligently.

[List of Cursed Individuals]

It didn’t take long for the Empire’s investigation team to find the book with a short title.

No matter what method they used, they couldn’t open it because of the prank Stella had played, but just by looking at the title, one could guess what it might contain, so there were rumors in the Empire.

That Stella, the crazy woman, had cursed people.

For most people, it was just a small rumor that they could easily pass by, but in some places, it had quite an impact.

“The atmosphere feels strange again today.”

Logan, who had returned from the Viscount of Asrian, returned to the academy on Wednesday.

He was quite tired from hurrying to meet the deadline, but he couldn’t forget the gaze of the students looking at him when he arrived at the academy.

“They looked at me as if I were pitiful.”

The way people looked at Logan had changed a lot recently, but it wasn’t a sympathetic gaze, but rather, “Isn’t he a good guy? Doing well in business?” It wasn’t a gaze filled with sympathy.

“Asrian…”

When Logan entered the classroom, the first thing that caught his eye was Aria trembling.

“What’s wrong?”

She looked visibly upset, even for the early morning.

“Oh, it’s just… I came to apologize again.”

“Out of the blue?”

After hearing Logan’s heartfelt explanation, Aria, who had been as still as a mouse until now, suddenly seemed to have a change of heart. He couldn’t understand why she had suddenly decided to apologize, especially when she had not properly acknowledged Anna’s apology, who seemed to be in a better state than her.

“I didn’t even know I was under a curse… I’m really sorry.”

Trembling body,

Eyes welling up with tears.

It was truly a pitiful sight, but Logan had no intention of paying attention to such Aria.

“How does she even know that I was under a curse?”

In fact, with a little thought, Logan could have quickly deduced the hypothesis that he was under Stella’s curse, but the cognitive impairment included in Stella’s curse prevented him from doing so.

If Aria knew, it meant that she was quite knowledgeable, which inevitably led Logan to suspect Anna first and foremost.

At least, in the Academy, Anna was the only person who knew that Logan was under a curse.

“Even if I was cursed, what you did to me won’t just disappear.”

Logan admitted that Aria had a clear reason to hate him, unlike other people.

However, Aria had crossed the line.

If she had only occasionally shot water at him like Anna, he might have accepted her apology.

Still, Aria had a definite reason to hate Logan.

But she crossed the line.

She stole Logan’s textbook and prevented him from attending the lecture properly.

There were times when she took away all the hard-earned money.

“I have no intention of forgiving you.”

“Is there anything I can compensate for?”

Logan’s mind raced for a brief moment.

The probability of Anna talking about her curse only to Aria was slim.

Considering the sympathetic glances he received this morning, perhaps all the academy students knew about Logan’s curse.

In other words, what used to be “He seems to be doing okay these days” until last week, was now interpreted as “A poor child suffering from a curse for half his life.”

This meant that the positive image Logan had shared with Serene during their last encounter was now sufficiently established.

“Do you want compensation from me?”

“Uh… If there’s anything I can do…”

“Then we should start with convening the disciplinary committee.”

“Huh?”

Aria visibly flinched at Logan’s words.

“Why would we do that? The wrong you’ve committed against me is not only a personal offense but also an act that disrespects the academy as a whole. If you’ve committed a crime, isn’t it natural to receive punishment rather than compensation for the victim?”

“Uh… Right.”

Actually, Logan couldn’t predict the extent of the punishment Aria might face.

Despite the seriousness of Aria’s actions towards Logan, the fact that it could be mitigated under the pretext of Logan being under a curse left room for uncertainty.

In the end, the matter could only be known once the disciplinary committee convened.

“First, go back to your class; I have no desire to talk with you.”

Upon Logan’s dismissal, Aria left the classroom with a deflated spirit.

-Drrrr

-Thud!

As Aria stepped out of the door, it soon harshly swung open.

“Senior.”

“You’ve got guts. Even if you know someone, it’s quite audacious to open the door to the second-year classroom like that.”

The person who entered after opening the door was Shohel.

She approached Logan with a rather serious expression.

“Senior, are you okay?”

It seemed she had also heard about Logan being cursed.

For Logan, it was a perplexing situation.

Not only was the curse not suddenly lifted, but just knowing that the curse was lifted was causing excessive concern.

“Why wouldn’t I be okay? The Logan from last week and the Logan from this week are fundamentally the same.”
