The Ancient Genes

Chapter 662 - Beyond Impossible

'Energy from the sun?' Andriel's voice rang out in Max's mind.

'Do you know something about it?' He couldn't help but ask her.

'Well, I had indeed heard that there were people who could draw energy from the heavenly bodies. It might be something similar to it..' Andriel replied to him.

'Obviously, it is still a bit lower than the Spirit energy. After all, the heavenly bodies are too far away from them.'

'Well, that makes sense..' Max muttered with a nod.

On the other side..

The old man looked at the Bald guy, and raised his staff.

"Whoosh!"

The sun suddenly seemed to shine even brighter than usual, and everyone felt the temperature in the surroundings increase.

"True Heavenly Flames."

As soon as he muttered that, it felt as if someone had put the people on a frying pan. But, it was still better than the Bald man who began to scream in agony as his skin began to sear and slowly get charred.

He suddenly lost his ability to remain in the air and came crashing down onto the ground. But, no matter what he did, the effect of the spell seemed to be stuck only to him.

"Stop!! Stop it!!"

He screamed and begged for the old man to stop. But, the old man didn't seem to be keen on hearing it. He sure wanted to hear about something else.

"Aahhhh!!!"

The screams continued to ring throughout the District, striking horror into people's hearts.

Slowly, his hairs were all gone turning into ashes, his skin began to fall off and the burns on his body began to get deeper. At this rate, it wouldn't be long before he was entirely reduced into ashes.

'Does this person not know about the artifact?' The old man frowned. This was the only thing that he could think of in the current situation.

There was no other reason that the man would be willing to go through this torture if not for it. Or, there were chances that he was put onto some kind of sealing formation that was used to stop people from giving information out. If not for that, there was no way that he wouldn't have told him about it yet.

'Did they already take the girl and artifact away?' He couldn't help, but frown. He had scanned the place after arriving here once, and he certainly hadn't found that girl nor the artifact around.

It could only mean that they had been moved.

"Hmmn?" Suddenly the old man frowned, and turned his head towards a certain direction.

And, sure enough, his feeling was spot on.

He could see a guy running away in the distance while carrying a person on his shoulder.

That person sure looked like the lady that he was here to find.

The old man immediately let go of the half dead fellow, and raised his hand towards the fleeing man.

But, suddenly he frowned.

There was a chance of him killing that lady with the guy as well. And, from what he could see she didn't have the artifact on her. He needed her alive to find out where it had gone.

"Clean up the battlefield. I will return within a minute.." The Old man suddenly announced before he got up and disappeared.

"That b*stard…" The Bald man who didn't look like a normal person slowly moved. Even after being forced into such a condition, Grandmaster Mages were still Grandmasters. They had a lot of mana in their arsenal. It was very easy for them to move, and even kill weaklings with ease.

"I need to get out of here before he returns.." He immediately tried to move, but the next instant, he suddenly felt his strength drastically decreasing.

His eyes immediately widened realizing the danger, and he sent a small burst of mana breaking his restraints and regaining his ability. It probably hasn't been a second, but in that time, a cold sharp blade came piercing towards his neck.

"Who dares to assassinate me?!!" The Bald man roared in anger as he sent his mana exploding outwards creating draft of chaotic wind.

Max who had been closing in on him immediately felt a hit, and his internal body was immediately sent in disarray.

Blood immediately came out of his eyes, nostril and mouth. It was an attack which had come at full force from a Grandmaster Tier Mage who really had been enraged.

The dagger flew out of Max's hand straight up into the air, and he was immediately sent flying away.

But, in that moment of exchange, another guy rushed in from the opposite direction and the Bald man's eyes turned red. He could see that these people were wearing the uniform of the Dark Society. So, it really made him mad thinking that his own people had betrayed him. He sure wasn't in a position to think about anything else right now.

Naze swiped his hands, and sent sharp black threads piercing towards the Bald man.

But, the bald man easily dodged it even in his state, and sent another burst of man exploding out of his body rocking the wind around.

Naze was in no better condition than Max. He even felt all the bones in his body shatter. He sure had to go through all the sh*t for his goals.

As Naze flew away from the impact, the black threads that the Bald man had dodged earlier were also pulled along with him as the connection between the threads with Naze had yet to break.

The Bald man obviously didn't pay attention to that small detail. He was already in such a miserable condition. Secondly, these were just small fries, he clearly didn't feel any threat from them. And, lastly, he only had escape in his mind.

'Let's get out of here fast..' The old man muttered, and turned around when his eyes widened.

"Shank!"

A dagger connected to black thread came piercing right into the middle of his temples.

"N-No..way…" He slowly turned his head to look at Max lying in a pool of blood in the distance, and then to Naze behind in the same situation as blood began to spill out of his mouth.

He couldn't accept it even as his figure collapsed onto the ground. This was the last way he would have thought of dying.
