58 – Rest. (1)

Dealing with the demon beasts was a breeze. The knight commander and I, who immediately returned inside the castle walls, continued to eliminate the incoming demons and the demonic beasts within the system together with the Capital Defense Force.

After holding the sword backwards, I stab the head of the demonic beast that lunges at me. The sword pierced him from head to chin, and blood flowed from the guy’s mouth.

I kick the guy’s head, pull out my sword, and cut off the neck of the demonic beast that was attacking me with spit flowing from the corner of its mouth. How old are you? It was impossible to even count them.

“There are so many that I’m sick of it.”

“Since this much has come…… This is unprecedented. Still, it doesn’t look like there are any more guys coming, so I guess he’ll just have to finish quickly.”

“I understand.”

Just as he said, there were no more demonic beasts joining from outside the castle walls. It was said that it was almost the end.

* * *

How long has it been? Stabbing, cutting, exploding, striking the demonic beast with his fists…… As I was cooking in the original way, I felt like the noise around me was gradually quieting down.

I finally came out of my trance and looked around. The sight of an island full of demonic beasts came into view. There seemed to be no demonic beasts that reached the central square, and fortunately, there seemed to be no civilian casualties except for damage to the Capital Defense Force.

However, although there were no civilian casualties, that did not mean that all of the Capital Defense Forces who fought directly were safe. The fairy tale of no one dying in war did not happen.

Rather than being intoxicated with the joy of victory, people slumped in their seats as if they were relieved of their strength at having survived. Some people were crying as they collected the bodies of their dead colleagues, and some were even wailing.

No matter how much we tried to reduce the number of victims, we still couldn’t save everyone.

Facing the body of a person torn apart by a magical beast was more painful than I thought. And I definitely realized that the world I belong to is more crazy than I thought.

A sigh came out of my mouth.

It was a lot of work and a lot of hardships, but…… Anyway, it’s over.

All goals have been achieved, and now only the final boss of Chapter 1 remains. The process probably won’t be very smooth either. At this point, it is natural to expect that the road ahead will be quite difficult.

Still, there was a short period of time, so we had to prepare various preparedness measures in the meantime. For example, the situation when Ruslanne and Lina meet.

Even so, there were significant differences in the parts related to Lina and Nea from the original, so even I had a hard time predicting how Lina, wearing the remains of her saint, would meet them.

In the original work, Ruslan, who became friends with a saint, becomes entangled with the Holy Knights and becomes entangled in a ghostly commotion within the academy.

Ghost disturbance. Don’t you get a sense just by hearing it?

That’s right. The commotion was caused by Lina.

In the original work, Lina suffers to the point of death to secure the remains of her saint, and finally learns from Nea to control her ghost.

But the joy is short-lived. Just when she thought she was free from the whispers of her wraith, Nea combines the remains of her saint with Lina’s body, and Lina, whose spirit has been eaten by her saint Este’s resentment, loses control of her wraith.

In the end, the ghost commotion was created as the ghosts spread to various places.

In other words, the small distortion gradually grew larger and reached this point. It was something I expected and was prepared for, but that doesn’t mean it was anything like that.

Honestly, it was a headache.

…… First of all, I’m not sure how Nea combined the saint’s remains with Lina. In the original, they come together when Lina’s joy is at its peak, but what will it be like this time?

* * *

Lina was looking at the center of the magic circle.

Even though it was clearly the remains of someone who died hundreds of years ago, the remains were still shining brightly.

“Those are the remains of a saint…” ….”

“Okay. “This is what I’ve been looking for all along.”

“To become a high-level devil?”

“That’s right. I’m not as good as Astaroth, but…… “I have no intention of living as a mid-level devil.”

“How are the ranks of demons determined?”

“Born.”

“Yes?”

“Just as you humans feel the difference in innate talent, so do devils. “We demons are rated the moment they are born.”

“Ah. If you say you are a mid-level devil when you are born, does that mean you will be a mid-level devil your whole life?”

“In normal cases, that’s true. But it doesn’t mean there is no way.”

“What method…?” … ?”

From noble mtl dot com

“It’s accumulating bad karma. “Very terribly.”

“Bad karma?”

“Okay. Unlike humans, the ranks of demons and angels are capable of breaking down walls through the karma they have accumulated. In the case of devils, it is bad karma. In the case of angels, good karma.”

“Then the reason why demons do evil things in the human world… ….”

“That’s right. It’s to accumulate bad karma. “That’s why I came to the human world.”

“If you corrupt the remains of a saint, how much bad karma can you accumulate?”

“It’s enormous. It corrupts the remains of a saint who made a nobler sacrifice than anyone else to save people. How much bad karma will be accumulated from just that? Wouldn’t it be much more beneficial than simply killing a bunch of people in a heartbreaking way? Perhaps it wouldn’t be enough to brutally kill 10,000 people to achieve that level of efficiency? But it’s not like I enjoy slaughtering humans.”

“Ma, 10,000 people?”

“That too was as small as possible. “Because Saint Este saved over hundreds of thousands of human lives.”

“Yeah, that’s right.”

“It’s not for nothing that humans have always considered it sacred. Anyway, the time-efficiency is amazing. “The act of degrading the remains itself.”

“…… Honestly, I think it would have been difficult to find it if it wasn’t for Senior Prach and Astaroth.”

“Then you couldn’t have been this comfortable, little Lina.”

“What a kid.”

“To me, you’re a kid. Anyway, my goal is almost complete now. Once I have corrupted these remains, my purpose will be complete. Of course, there are still steps left.”

“What are the remaining steps?”

“Okay. “I want to aim for the next high-ranking devil.”

It was like that. Nea’s goal was not only high-level demons. She wanted to become a high-ranking demon. The reason she wanted to become a high-ranking demon was because of the image of Astaroth that she saw in Hell a long time ago.

That powerful power. Just looking at it makes my stomach tingle and has the power to make me fall to my knees.

Nea, or Nebiros, saw Astaroth truly angry at her, and has continued to admire her ever since. That’s why she wanted to become a high-ranking devil.

What does the world look like from her perspective? With what sense does she live in the world?

I wanted to resolve that question. The reason she came to the human world was because of that.

She never expected to meet Astaroth in the human world.

“So there is a need to accumulate even more bad karma. Chamberlain… ….”

“For example?”

“Something like killing a saint.”

Lina trembled slightly at the sight of Nebiros casually making scary noises. Because for some reason she had an ominous feeling.

“Uh, how?”

“It’s simple. I will deliver the saint’s remains to the current saint, Adrian Deus. The remains of a fallen saint. And…… What if that saint becomes corrupted by her saintly remains?”

“Ah.”

“Then I end up accumulating evil karma that corrupts even the saints of the current generation who are respected by everyone. “It may be impossible to reach a high-ranking devil, but you will probably accumulate a lot of bad karma.”

As Nebiros said, Adrian Deus was a being who was worshiped to the point of fanaticism even in the Holy Kingdom. It was not simply because she was a saint, but because her appearance truly lived up to her name.

In other words, Nebiros’ plan at this point was not to combine Lina’s body with the saint’s remains.

It was to combine the saint and her remains.

This is because the time to acquire the saint’s remains was accelerated by Astaroth and Prah, and Lina’s mind stabilized quickly, so the relationship between Nebiros and Lina became closer than in the original.

In the original story, Nebby Ross was not interested in Lina enough to leave her emotionally unstable, and she only thought of her as a pawn on her chessboard to use…… Now, Nebiros has come to think of her as a pretty good student.

This is not a disposable horse that will use the remains of a saint.

This taught her how to deal with her ghost, and it was quite common for Lina to laugh at her.

Even though Nebiros was a devil, she quite liked human life, and she was not a person who was cruel to the people she liked.

Since her purpose had been achieved to a certain extent, there was no need for her to overwork her student, whom she was trying to raise anyway, and as a result, the negative feelings Lina originally had toward Nea were diluted.

The distortion eventually led to changes in the original work……

If Prah had known, something that would have caused her troubles was happening right now in the deserted workshop.

“Okay, but how do I deliver it to the saint? “You will recognize the energy of the fallen saint’s remains as soon as you see them.”

“Well. I have to think about that from now on. It’ll probably take a while, though. If you really need to, you should ask Astaroth or Prah for help. “Because you have to make the most of it.”

Nea smiled and answered Lina’s question.
