Sacred Chevalier

Episode 47: The Dean of the College Who Dropped the Mask

On November 27, the Royal Cavalier College began its second year of regular events, "March Training". In roughly a month, he steps through a forest zone southwest of the kingdom and returns to the king's capital from the southernmost city of Lyune. As always, giving away march funds and arranging our own food and accommodation is even more difficult this time because it even includes the cost of travel. Lilia Shrisp, Dean of the College, greeted her as she began the training.

"We will now begin marching training for the Second Grade Hero/Saint Knight Candidate Joint. As I've already told you, this training starts at this knight's college. By dusk ten days from now, gather your own food, etc. in the settlement of Luca on top of procurement. The next morning as the sun rises, we split into squads and enter the Great Forest. Teams who fail to make it before then will be disqualified."

Lilia cut the words there and looked over at the faces of everyone. Some hero candidates are nervous, others are easy-going. Lilia, who usually "plays" a hearty college director, took off that mask. The gentle grin disappears softly.

"I'll tell you one thing. I don't think I need to graduate fifty hero candidates. When I was fighting on the front line as a holy knight, I saw a lot of holy knights who were struggling because they had incompetent heroes. The presence of such heroes is, in turn, harmful. I don't recognize incompetent people as heroes who have the funds, time, and understand the path but can't get to their destination. Therefore, there is no need for this college. The former dean would have been nice (...), but I'm not. You don't have to tell me any more, do you?

It means "If you don't get to Luca within ten days, you'll be discharged from school". There are a few hero candidates who blur their faces. Stefan was scratching her cheeks with Polypoli, remembering what her own friend had said before.

(Kite. The new Dean of the Academy, your master, but you seem like a very kind man. Honestly, the previous college director seemed a little tight and had a tough time. I'm relieved.)

(Stefan, that's not true. Sure, Dr. Lilia is basically sweet, but never sweet. Especially when it comes to those who fail in their duty and effort, even the word "harsh" is raw. Sooner or later, it will be time to show it)

Twenty-eight hero candidates and eighty-four holy knight candidates aboard the Stefans' proposal, all in one carriage. The remaining twenty hero candidates and sixty one Saint Knight candidates (except Kate and four Saint Knights and Roxanne, and Carlos Rodriguez, who dropped out halfway through school) are those who refused to go to Luca's settlement on their own.

"Are they assholes? I don't care what you think. If you head to Luca alone, that's all you'll get..."

Artur shook his head and sighed. Verlaine, who was on the same carrier, also nods.

"Oddly enough, you've split the top and bottom with clarity. I guess the aristocratic people are thinking of keeping Kite and Stefan away and doing something about it themselves. If it's Isa, aren't you going to cry to your parents?

"Well, the chief was one foot away, because all four had the Holy Knight. Besides, they all have beauties. Stefan has already decided too. I'd love to."

The two laughed bitterly, clapping their shoulders.

Around that time, Kate and the four Saints had arrived in Lyune one foot away, via the city of Lisbon. Mr. and Mrs. Wackenheim are invited. Wackenheim villa on a slightly higher hill. There were few houses around, and it was a white spicy house surrounded by maintained hedges.

"Nice house. Not too wide, not too narrow. It's an open building with wind out of it. War may also be the best way to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the King's capital..."

Elfina was looking at the building with an admirable eye. Kite nods too. Heroes receive a considerable amount of money each month. But each of the heroes used it. The lazy hero Paul Shrimp had spent considerable money on his research to survive, that is, collecting books and war history information. I tried to make up for my weak vitality by wisdom.

Meanwhile, legendary hero Walter Wackenheim spends money on improving his quality of life. Every thing you wear and every thing you eat is superior. I guess for heroes and holy knights who don't even know when they're going to die, they also need time to do these luxuries.

"You guys could have a house right away, right?

Kate returned from her thoughts when she was called out. A luscious beauty with brown skin and silver hair stood. It is Gratina Wackenheim, the Kingdom's strongest saint knight. Kite, who only knows what armor looks like on the battlefield and what it looks like publicly in King's Capital, was bewildered by its appearance. It is a cloth covering the chest and a loose hipster. He gave out his broken abs and umbilicus, and his lower body was likely to be visible through because his lumbar wear was also a thin cloth.

"In the war ahead, thank you very much for your help. Thank you for inviting me again today."

Kite is followed by four greetings. Gratina nodded and led the kites to the reception room. Fruit water is served when everyone sits in a chair. But there's no one there to be with. Kate asked Gratina a question with a serious face.

"What about Lord Walter Wackenheim?

When Gratina sipped the fruit water, she set aside for a little while and started talking.

"The battle on the Kabee Plains ahead was hard. Twenty years after I went out on the battlefield as a saint knight. Among them, there are only so many fierce fights to count. In that battle, three heroes came to life. Take your medicine day after day. And my husband..."

"No way...... is Lord Walter in such bad shape?

Kate peeled off her eyes and let her hips float. Then suddenly, there was a shock to my head.

"Dumb! I'm gonna die to that extent!

A legendary hero dressed in white hemp stood behind him holding his fist bone. When Gratina blew out, Walter laughed a lot too.

"Totally... I didn't even realize they were taking my back. Even though you don't have a sword genius, your brother's gonna cry.

Sophia complained with a laugh. "It's faceless," Kate scratches her head, too. Sitting dokally next to his loving wife, Walter talked about his life in the villa.

"The continuous administration of drugs strains the heart's heart. So if you survive the battlefield, this is how you heal and get back in shape. I haven't taken a single pill since that fight. Eat delicious rice, hunt and fish, move your body, and drink alcohol with easy people. If you spend three months, you're back to normal."

"This is a good city, huh? The water is delicious and it's rich in vegetables, fruits and meat. Most importantly, it's warm all year round and can be spent with a piece of feather. Why don't you have a house in Lune sometime?

"Right. Sure looks good."

Kate looked over at the mansion as she took the lead. The two in front of them should have more wealth than a concomitant nobleman. But there is no such thing as wasted condiments in this house. Furniture and kimonos even look like qualities at first glance. It seemed like a good example of not being equal to Huamei and fine quality.

At the end of the public discourse, Walter embarked on himself and turned his sharp gaze to Kite.

"Kite, you're ready, aren't you?

"Yep..."

What Walter has confirmed is that he is seriously going to fight the Deep Wesen. It was almost a certainty for Walter that a "bloody giant bear (Bloody Evil Bear)" would emerge a year ago, taking the life of Saint Roxanne, who was Kate's turn. A man who continues to receive the blessing "good fortune" of a goddess is thirsty from the bottom of his belly. It's more suspicious not to answer.

"This time, the college students in the Cavalier College officer program take recruits and hit the guard. But it's centered around the streets and the city of Lune. In the woods, we heroes (Chevaliers) and knights (Paladins) look around. Kite, you're in charge of the second to third checkpoints."

"A year ago, that place (...), right? Thank you for your concern."

"If you are a Holy Knight (Paladin), there will be no such thing as taking a lag on the Wesen. But by nature, I'm not the kind of person a person fights alone. Even if I run into you, I'll think about running away.

"That's why. If you can beat that bear, you can prove your strength. Prove that you can protect yourself. And when I did, I finally recognized myself as a Chevalier."

Walter silenced for a few moments, and nodded.

"Bernando...... are you sure you're okay? A lot of people are on the Lansberg proposal..."

"Hang on, never mind! I'm the second son of the Javar family, the Earl of Montfort, right? Even in the same Count's house, he's not the same blood as the three boys from the regional aristocracy. Can you stay with the civilians and the lowly born ones!

Bernando Montfort, a second-year hero at the Royal Knights College, distorted his face uncomfortably. I could not stand the fact that I would be taken to the Duke of Javar family, the Kingdom's largest nobleman, to ride the same carriage as the local nobles and the civilians. I was still patient in the first grade, but I couldn't stand it any longer with Kate's turn with Elfina Roglaia as the chief hero. Elfina, who secretly thought she deserved it as her turn, stuck with the civilians.

(I'm better off being a nobleman than such a lowlife-born civilian. I'll prove it to you!

"They're stopping by Lisbon, just like they did last year. We don't stop by, we head straight to Luca. I'll get to Luca first, and I'll even buy them their food."

That's what Bernando said, distorted his mouth.

A dish is served with a cereal "comet" that can be picked in the south of the kingdom. Walter Wackenheim himself cooked this dish. Melt the butter in a flat pan and add the washed comedy. Cook there with the soup taken from the beast bones, the salted meat washed in water and the well-incensed mushrooms. Taste with salt and pepper, scrape and shake the last aged hard cheese to complete.

"Comedy has a good stomach and strength. It's a grain that can be used on the battlefield. You should remember."

The kites roared at the taste. It looks plain but tastes very good. Kite, who was the first to eat grain called comedy, decided to buy it regularly at the Gurup Chamber of Commerce through Sasha. Did Sasha like the flavor, too, and she snorts.

"Five gold coins per person, cover up to the cost of travel…"

Walter shrugged as he drank tea after the meal.

"The athletes don't care about that. Let's sightsee Lune tomorrow, shall we?

"Elsa. Tomorrow we will train jointly with the other Saints (Paladins) and Heroes (Chevaliers). We didn't come to see you. You should do your duty as a holy knight."

Sophia beats Shaggu Elsa. Elfina spoke to Walter.

"What would Lord Wackenheim do?

"More than there is a constraint of five gold coins, we would try to secure a bigger luggage car or something and make the cost of travel per person as cheap as possible. Well, around here, it's the same as Kate's. But..."

"Something you care about?

"Kite, you'd realize that, wouldn't you? As for the training that Lilia Shrimp thought about, don't you feel uncomfortable?

Walter asked, and Kate nodded. Four Saint Knights turn their gaze to Kite.

"To the entity, it's too easy. Despite the constraint of five gold coins, all participants have undergone march training last year. With a little work on your head, you'd quickly come up with a plan to travel all the way to Luca, wouldn't you?

"If you ask me."

The Elfinas agree.

"I know Dr. Lilia. The easier the problem that he puts out, the more hick-ass it can be. I was tapped into not judging by the rules of thumb and assumptions alone. If you're Dr. Lilia, you'll also see that I've gotten into Stefan's wisdom. I'm not saying anything on it. Perhaps there's something behind this march."

Kate looked interesting and described her findings.

"We don't raise supplies in Luca?

Twenty-eight hero candidates, including Stefan, are gathered at Lisbon's tavern. Verlaine continued her words on Stefan's behalf.

"There are two reasons. One is a matter of procurement. Lisben is easier to procure than the settlement of Luca if it becomes supplies for twenty-eight heroes, eighty-four saints and a total of one hundred and twelve. It would also be possible to raise it cheaper with bulk purchases. And the other thing is, you might not be able to procure in Luca."

The candidates face each other. Stefan takes over the explanation.

"Guys, I want you to remember what the Dean said. That's what you said then, right?" so that we can gather our own food and other items in Luca's settlement... "In other words, don't procure them in Luca. I think it means we have to procure it before then."

"I mean, in Luca, you can't raise supplies? Is that what this is about?

"Probably. We had experience last year. That's why I'm assuming I can source food and supplies in Luca. But there's no basis for that assumption. Just because it was last year doesn't necessarily mean it's the same this year. I think the decree of initiation hid such a hickey."

"... Actually, a college director is pretty mean, huh?

Alteur grinned and groaned. Everyone nods at the words.

"If so..."

Verlaine put her hand on her chin and sharpened her intelligent eyes.

"It's not just supplies and food. I would also like to purchase a map of the Great Forest if possible. I was given a map last year that didn't work, but it's possible I won't even get one this year."

"It could also be difficult to gather information in Luca itself. Let's split up and gather as much information as we can in this city."

Twenty-eight people began to move together.

"Stefan Lansberg... Kite just admits it as a friend. You're supposed to be a good candidate."

Lilia, who was taking an inn in Lisbon, looked amused to read the report that came up. Three people, Stefan, Arteur and Verlaine, focus on putting together the hero candidates and said they are moving to raise supplies and gather information in Lisbon. The other professors ask anxiously.

"Dean, are you seriously going to do the disposition? Nearly twenty people will be released from school as it is..."

"I mean it. The former Dean of the College was a man of responsibility and affection. He also looked at the incompetent and managed to make it one person. I know that attitude is great, but things are different from last year and this year. In the future, the war against the Empire will be unimaginably harsh and fierce. That is what makes it a battle with all the strength of the nation. The policy of the Royal Knights College must also be changed. We should put more emphasis on quality than numbers."

"But some of them also have noble children. What pressure..."

"No problem. The Fairchilds, leading aristocrats such as the Rogliers, support from military forces such as the Lujandor Minister of Military Affairs and General Farranks, requests from both Walter and Gratina Wackenheim… If we can get this far, even the Duke of Javar can't complain."

Some Royal Knights College hero candidates do have many noble children. But it's not the first thing to send a man out to a hero whose life is promised. At best, he is the second son, the third son. Anyway, there's no way I would have fought for my second son, my third son, betting on the door. I made it a school discharge, and at best I ended up being complained about with ease. Lilia was looking that far.

(Kate... if you're going to get in the way, I'll wrap it up with this march training)

His disciples inherit the goal of his late husband. Lilia's eyes had a resolute will.

"What the hell is this?!

Seven days after leaving King's Capital, Bernando Montfort and several hero candidates surrounding him had arrived in the settlement of Luca one foot early. Stefans arrived earlier than the professors. Not that it was as early as possible, but Bernando was thinking in his heart of a disgusting dialogue with the Dean of the College.

But such optimism was to be dissolved upon arrival in Luca. Luca's settlement changed from last year and was sparsely populated. The hunters are mostly away and the stores where they intended to procure food are closed.

"You heard in this march training that we don't raise supplies in Luca. Instead, I was asked to look around the woods to avoid accidents like last year. That's why many of the hunters are absent."

Supply procurement is aside and even difficult to gather information. The lodging was open, so it was okay for a meal. Negotiate with the inn and you'll only get food. But it's impossible to spend a few days in the woods. At least it is hopeless to reach the city of Lune.

The following day, Dean Lilia Shrisp and other professors arrived in Luca. Bernando turned his face red and black and stuffed Lilia.

"What the hell is going on here? I didn't hear you couldn't procure food in Luca!

"Oh, I told you to gather your food and stuff in Luca's settlement." You didn't procure it? You have to listen to me properly. "

"But... but last year in Luca..."

"Last year, this year, right? Just because it was last year, I thought it was the same this year, isn't that your assumption? You sophomore students also attended march training last year. So instead of the same content, do it with increased difficulty. I explained that to you in class, and I instructed you to get some food in your opening remarks. Ignored them all, just the assumptions... you can't remedy them."

Bernando still tried to defend himself, but froze unexpectedly at the look Lilia had on her face. There was a grim, extremely angry look on the face of the former Saint Knight, who abandoned the mask of a gentle college director.
