71. Your War, My War (7)

fluff.

It was the sound of Christine falling to the floor.

Wizards were contemplating magic in a relatively safe place, quite far from the front line. Feeling sorry for not being able to fight together on the frontline, responsibility for the soldiers dying in the attack of monsters, and a sense of mission to save them were driving Christine.

“Christine!”

Wizards ran to Christine, who had fallen to the floor. They were all wizards who quit the Mage Tower and devoted themselves to the military. The wizards grabbed Christine by the arm and raised her up.

“Fine.”

Christine stood up from the floor, refusing to be touched by the wizards. Christine raised her hand above the stack of spells. Christine’s mana circulated in a magic circle. Information about the spell was being passed on to Christine over the flowing mana. It was still lacking.

“With a little more effort, I can make the third spell.”

I was talking about such a hopeful outlook, but I needed time to fill the lack of mana. Of course, the more Christine asks for time, the more soldiers die on the frontlines. Christine nailed it.

“Christine, if you lose consciousness from exhaustion and then collapse, the construction of the spell will be rather slow.”

The Wizard spoke to Christine with concern. The more she said that, the more Christine’s anger grew. Christine’s fingertips glowed white.

“Christine!”

“…There really is very little left. If you can’t hold out this time, it’s a really dangerous situation…”

Christine pushed the arm out of her way.

“Because it will happen…”

Then, when he felt a hand on his shoulder, he shuddered.

“You’re constructing some very nice magic. It’s a flame type, so the difficulty isn’t that high, and the destructive power is high.”

As if he didn’t care at all about the urgent atmosphere of the scene, his voice showed a sense of composure. Christine shook her hand and turned back.

“It’s still a very sharp reaction.”

Dozens of wizards wearing robes. That dark green robe was the uniform worn by the Mage Tower on official occasions. Christine looked at the professors of the Magic Tower who were evaluating the magic circle with complex emotions in her eyes.

“I’m here to help, Christine. Let’s forget about the past for now and focus only on defeating that Behemoth. By the way…”

“…You are finally here.”

The professor examined Christine’s complexion. And then he let out a small laugh.

“Looking at your condition, I don’t think you’ll be very helpful in building magic. How long have you been envisioning magic of this magnitude?”

Christine didn’t answer. As the professor beckoned, several wizards approached. They handed the professor a clear vial. Inside the vial, a bright blue liquid was dripping. The professor took the vial and showed it to Christine.

“It’s a medicine that helps restore mana. If you want to help, you might as well take this medicine.”

Christine squinted at the vial.

“Are you telling me to trust the medicine you give me?”

“Believe it or not, that’s your choice, Christine. I think you have the ability to judge the situation at least a little.”

less so

The vial rolled and landed at Christine’s feet. Christine glared at the professor terribly, but he only shrugged. There were no other options. Christine picked up the vial. When the professor saw Christine picking up the vial, he clapped his hands and summoned the wizards.

“Now then, shall we complete this magic?”

Christine sighed as she watched the magic approaching completion so quickly that it was futile. He looked at the medicine bottle and struggled, finally opening the lid. Christine emptied the vial at once. With a feeling of boiling inside, Christine’s mana began to rapidly recover.

“To think the mages were dispatched from the Mage Tower.”

The wizard who had previously been organizing magic with Christine said. Except for a few special cases, the military wizards usually did not get along very well with the Mage Tower. The wizard confronted the professor and fired at him in a nervous voice.

“Have you sent wizards like this 15 years ago?”

The professor sighed.

“At the time, no one knew the seriousness of the situation. who would have known That the monster will reappear. We all thought that the Behemoth was a monster that only existed in myths and fairy tales.”

“So, they sent the wizards like this now.”

“right.”

The wizard turned into a stern voice and asked.

“That selfish group like you…”

“We are selfish, but we are not stupid enough not to sense our own crisis. The Mage Tower Lord made a quick decision.”

The professor turned his head to look at the wizards completing the spell.

“So, why don’t you just focus on defeating the Behemoth for a while? Just wasting time fighting each other can be done even after the war is over.”

The wizard could not find words to return. Then, he soon gave up his anger and looked at the magic circle of the completed spell unfolding above the sky.

“The recipe design was fine. It was quite impressive.”

The magic circle was dyed red. As if it were about to spit out a huge flame at any moment, the mana around it fluctuated with hostile aura.

“I scaled it up a bit.”

A ball of fire appeared that could be called the sun. The fireballs that appeared like that began to fall to the battlefield where the slaughter battle was taking place.

The fireball fell on the heads of the monsters.

scourge.

Or, since it is a punishment imposed by a person, should it be called a human punishment? the professor laughed. The small pike-like monsters have now been mostly cleaned up by knights and magic. Its gaze was directed at the monster, the Behemoth, whose flames were still burning.

The professor’s expression contorted into an uncomfortable one again. The Behemoth didn’t seem to be affected at all by the hordes of knights attacking it.

“I’ll have to come up with another magic.”

Then Christine stepped forward. As if he had recovered quite a bit, the color of his face had returned.

“…What are you doing?”

“There is one magic I have been thinking about.”

Christine said while looking at the platinum light that bloomed again from a distance.

“Just this time, please cooperate.”

As the falling flames punished the world with flames, and the horses charged forward with gallant cries, the monsters dragged by the Behemoth were literally crushed. The heads of the monsters were trampled under the horse’s hooves.

The Behemoth, which was hit again by the large-scale magic, staggered a little for the first time. The general commander of the kingdom’s army was the vice-captain of the Royal Guard Knights.

The commander-in-chief wore a huge jousting spear at his side. Aura swirls over the charging jousting spear. Knights who can emit auras form formations, splitting monsters and charging.

“The target is Behemoth!”

The commander-in-chief declared in a high voice. The knights headed for the Behemoth, maintaining formation as if they had become one spearhead.

“For the kingdom-!”

And the rushing knights collide with the Behemoth. The first collision emitted an intense light with a roar. Of course, they wouldn’t have expected to be able to deal effective damage to the Behemoth with the first attack.

Behemoth stumbled. Theodora watched as the kingdom’s best knights united to attack one target.

In one hit, the Behemoth let out a growl of annoyance. The last remaining monsters rush to chase the knights away. However, as soon as he rushed in, the knights disintegrated his limbs. The sword and spear began to attack the Behemoth’s legs relentlessly, emitting auras.

His swordsmanship, which reached the pinnacle of skill, dug into the Behemoth’s skin. Auras and auras whirled around, gradually reducing the Behemoth’s stamina. The commander-in-chief abandoned his horse and jumped up using the front feet of the Behemoth as a stepping stone.

“die!”

The jousting spear was embedded in the Behemoth’s leg. Behemoth let out a roar. The knights desperately hoped that the roar was mixed with a bit of pain.

The Behemoth was gradually losing its balance. The attack of the knights became more intense accordingly. There was a sound of something breaking, and finally the Behemoth fell with its paws forward.

Soldiers from the reinforcements began approaching the Behemoth. The journey to bring down the gods and end the kingdom’s eternal war had begun.

A huge hook flew through the sky. The hook caught on the Behemoth’s skin. Of course, there was no hook that could pierce that skin, so it was just literally stiff. Being attacked by the knights, the Behemoth could not afford to pay attention to the hook.

“Pull!”

The magic-reinforced rope was fixed to the ground as it was. The Behemoth let out an angry roar as if it had finally realized that the hook had been caught on its body. The Behemoth pulled on itself, but the rope held its tension without breaking.

“Knights, raise your Aura to the fullest!”

The commander-in-chief seemed to have already won the war. The revolving aura surrounding the jousting spear made the sound of a whirlwind blowing. The knights raised their aura together.

“I will put an end to this war!”

As if the knights responded, they raised their swords together.

It was like seeing a scene of a whaling boat hunting whales. In order to catch a huge whale, dozens of people rushed at it and stabbed it with spears, but they did not care about the target being hunted. Of course, if the attacks accumulate and bleed, one day you will be able to defeat the giant whale-

It wasn’t the whale that the knights were poking at, it was the Behemoth.

“Little bastards.”

Behemoth opened his mouth. The knights attacking the Behemoth stiffened in surprise. Time froze, and no one let their hands or feet play carelessly. Behemoth’s eyes were cold, as if he was completely indifferent to the series of actions taking place around him.

The Behemoth then shuddered greatly. The rope that had been strengthened with magic broke so easily. With a roar like a mountain collapsing, everything around began to be destroyed. Trees, rocks, monsters, and knights. In one movement of the Behemoth, they returned to dust.

“dare.”

Behemoth was funny. It was an aura of a lower rank than the platinum light that blocked him. An attack like that, even for a month, could not destroy him.

Behemoth stepped out.

The ground collapsed and the soldiers and monsters under it were crushed to death.

The Behemoth took another step.

Also, that many soldiers died.

“Stop!”

“Bring the line back!”

Soldiers talking nonsense lay beneath their feet.

“Activate the aura! Stop it!”

Even the hurried movements of the knights could not catch up with the Behemoth. Behemoth moved his feet. The trenches have already collapsed. Murra was now within reach of the Behemoth if it moved a few more steps.

Then, the platinum-colored mist appears in front of the Behemoth again.

Theodora was holding a sword.

More than ever, he realized that he was holding a sword. The platinum aura surrounding the sword swept the blade, then rose to the hilt and wrapped around Theodora’s body. The heart kept beating calmly.

No more preparation was required.

Theodora confronted the Behemoth again.

Behemoth did not consistently advance and dealt with Theodora. Theodora swung her sword as she felt the mana gradually draining away. Each time the Behemoth was cut with the sword, the Behemoth’s attack grazed Theodora more menacingly. The Behemoth was now wounded and bleeding every time it was cut by Theodora’s sword. Theodora could feel the boundary between herself and the sword gradually blurring.

Just swinging, slashing, wounding, aiming for life.

Nothing else entered Theodora’s head now.

little bit more.

If only I could stretch out a little more. If only I could draw a stronger sword and a more sophisticated sword.

Theodora thought that her sword could reach the Behemoth.

as it is. Theodora climbed the Behemoth’s forepaws and pointed her sword at its neck. When Theodora’s oblique line and Behemoth’s gaze matched, Theodora’s black light was lost. The blade, which had lost its luster of platinum, grazed Behemoth’s nape and broke, and Behemoth’s upper arm grazed Theodora as it was.

Theodora fluttered and fell to the floor. The helmet shatters, and together it descends into fragments.

“Captain!”

“Theodora…!”

The margrave, who was knocked down by the Behemoth’s attack, was barely able to receive Theodora. Theodora was barely holding her own, bleeding from her head. Theodora, who was breathing weakly, was quickly taken back by the Marquis.

“Not yet…not over…”

Theodora did not let go of her sword despite being supported by the Marquis. He forcibly let go of his arm and raised his sword to meet the advancing Behemoth. However, the blade never emitted an aura.

The closest thing to the aura that heroes of the past used to confront themselves.

Theodora’s aura was just as menacing and dignified. But Behemoth overcame that aura. Now, nothing could stop him.

Behemoth moved forward again. The wound is deep, but it will heal. The knights rose again from the rubble and ruins. Behemoth abandoned the idea of responding to them one by one and moved forward. Then, the magic circle unfolded again in the sky. It’s as if they’re trying to make a last stand.

that magic

The only thing that can currently annoy the Behemoth.

However, it was the same as the knights’ aura except for Theodora. You may stop yourself, but you will never be able to knock them down.

And, the magic that betrayed Behemoth’s expectations and appeared had a different form. Looking at the magic circle, Theodora opened her eyes wide.

“…chain.”

A huge light chain extended from the magic circle. The Behemoth roared, but the chain did not break or collapse and began to bind the Behemoth. He grabbed the front legs and shoulders of the Behemoth, strangled it, and restrained it by pressing down on its huge back.

The Behemoth twisted its body and resisted the chain, but the tightly entangled chains only held the Behemoth down more thoroughly.

I had to move on. Theodora knew it instinctively, but she didn’t go around her blade anymore. Theodora’s legs gave out and she knelt on the floor. One last sword strike, one perfect sword strike, could decapitate that monster.

The light of the chain gradually fades.

No amount of magic could keep that monster bound for long.

Now is your only chance, your only chance to kill that monster.

The chain cracks. Behemoth’s resistance was getting stronger. If the chain is broken, the Behemoth will now be able to advance on Myra without fail.

The sword is stuck in the ground.

Theodora felt the weak wind and fell forward.

Theodora closed her eyes, thinking she would encounter hard ground, but the collision she expected did not happen.

“Theo.”

is it a dream?

Theodora had such a question. Maybe it will make you dream of the last person you really want to see. Beneath that voice, beneath the arms that firmly supported her, Theodora became infinitely weaker.

“Just… at…”

Theodora faintly muttered the name.

Maxim was supporting Theodora. eyes were seen It was golden eyes looking at him. Theodora raised her hand.

Maxim held onto Theodora’s raised hand. Theodora’s hand gripped Maxim’s hand tightly. Maxim carefully hugged Theodora. At the appearance of a knight out of nowhere, the soldiers and knights couldn’t even open their mouths and had to watch as Maxim embraced Theodora.

There was someone who slowly approached Maxim.

“What the hell are you…”

Paola twisted her face and looked at Maxim, but Paola shut her mouth at Maxim’s return expression.

“Theodora, please.”

Maxim asked to transport the unconscious Theodora, and he drew his sword. It was a plain iron sword that he always carried with him.

Theodora saw Maxim receding in his blurred gaze.

“Maxim…?”

And, as soon as he realized that he was not dreaming, he called for Maxim with his hands floundering.

“Maxim!!”

Maxim sighed and looked back. Theodora raised her upper body and began to resist, trying to get away from the soldiers who were trying to transport her.

“Maxim!! Why did you come…! What the hell… why!!”

“Captain, first of all, rest…”

Theodora tried to shake off the soldiers, but Theodora, exhausted from the battle with the Behemoth, could not escape from the soldiers’ restraint.

“Maxim!! no!!”

Theodora’s dissuade gradually turned into a sound closer to a scream. Maxim looked at Theodora blankly, as if he was bothered by Theodora’s cry.

“Don’t go… Maxim… please… don’t go…”

Theodora took advantage of the loose grip of the soldiers and ran to Maxim. With her face covered in tears, Theodora tried to grab Maxim, but Maxim held out his hand to stop Theodora from getting any closer.

“Why… Maxim…”

Instead of answering, Maxim stroked Theodora’s head once. Then, without an apology or greeting, he just smiled once. It was a very youthful smile that hadn’t changed at all from when she was with Maxim when she was shining.

Theodora’s expression darkened. And, he had no choice but to look at the back of the knight who left him and walked back to the Behemoth.

Maxim walked.

Its footsteps were heading towards the mythical monster struggling with chains of light.

“It’s getting boring now.”

Maxim said that while lowering his sword. There was no one there to listen, but at a time like this, shouldn’t I at least leave my words to myself?

“You don’t know.”

Behemoth didn’t answer. Maxim concentrated his mind and collected mana. My heart is pounding, and the scars are stabbed with a knife-like pain. However, his mind gripping the sword was no longer disturbed. Because now I only have to think about one thing.

“So, I need to vent my anger.”

The golden scribe slowly wrapped around Maxim’s sword from the root, like a vine wrapping a wall. The light was not bright. It was such a straight, radiant glow that was warm and mesmerized the viewer. It was weaker than the golden light of the sun passing into the afternoon. It was no brighter than the light of gold freshly mined in a gold mine.

But Behemoth knew.

that light.

That light resembled the brilliance that the heroes of the past wore on their swords, which he feared the most.

“Yeah… bastard…”

Behemoth struggled as he said that. The chain shook as if it would break at any moment, but it bought time for Maxim to reach the front of the Behemoth.

hurt. The wounds that Theodora, knights, and magic had accumulated on the Behemoth’s body were showing up. While doing so, Maxim was looking at the extremely small wound on the Behemoth’s neck. It was the clue Theodora had carved on the nape of her neck, and the place where her last sword should reach.

Raised the sword.

As if the chains were trying to give strength for the last time, the Behemoth was tightly clamped and its neck dropped to the floor.

The body did not listen to the words, and the remaining mana was collected by cutting away life. The curse quickly ate up everything in Maxim.

Black blood flowed from Maxim’s mouth. Tears of blood flowed from his eyes little by little.

memory.

After one second passes, and another second passes, the memory disappears.

The Jackdaw Knights, the royal road, the Benning and Borden families, their own families, their apartments, and their academies.

Just like mud washed away by rainwater, Maxim’s memory gradually fades away.

but,

“Theo…”

As if clinging to it, Maxim was holding on to that one name.

Even if you lose all your memories, even if you die now, there are things you must remember.

“Theodora… Benning.”

Maxim nodded with a satisfied expression, forgetting why he had memorized the name.

The sword that devoured Maxim’s everything was closer to completion than ever before.

Maxim approached the Behemoth with a precarious step.

As the Behemoth opened its mouth for the last time and was about to roar, Maxim’s sword fell to the nape of the Behemoth’s neck in a perfect arc.

The Behemoth’s neck, which seemed like it would never be cut, flew through the air.

A golden scribe embroidered the sky.
