The vampire king was dead!

The man who had ruled over Ixtal for hundreds of years.

The man who had brought pride and prestige to the vampire society by raising their social standing in the universe and thereby making every vampire proud was now dead.

Before Regus, the previous king, Rumi Titus was only tier7 and hence not taken seriously by the other monarchs and factions.

However, when Regus took the throne and claimed a spot for himself within the council of monarch's, he put the vampires on the universal map and established them as a formidable faction.

Despite his flaws, his best intentions for the vampire society as a whole could never be doubted, which is why although his recent moves sparked public outrage, the day he actually died…. Everyone cried, bawling their eyes out.

Women, children, men, soldiers…. Everyone cried! The age did not matter, the gender did not matter, their societal status did not matter as everyone cried their hearts out for the loss of a great man.

If nothing, Regus was at least impartial. He did not make laws that favoured the strong and he did not make laws that oppressed the weak.

The law was absolute in his reign and although his authority went unchallenged right until the end of his reign with the first ranked clan being his ally, the absolute power he wielded only helped the Vampire society as a whole as without the need for him to play politics or rally support, Regus only did what was best for the vampire society as a whole and did not care if his policies offended certain powerful individuals.

He never deployed soldiers to fight pointless wars and he never shied away from leading from the front.

A true leader in every way, Regus was well respected by soldiers regardless of the clan they belonged to as the soldiers were the ones who cried the hardest at his death.

The only one's who cried more than the soldiers probably were Regus's wife, Martha and only surviving kid Felix as the two seemed utterly stunned that the man had actually died?

It seemed only yesterday that Martha was discussing with Regus how she pitied Sabrina for losing Vega.

Only yesterday the two were discussing how awful the life of a royal widow was, and today Martha suddenly became one herself-

Felix, had grown away from Regus as on a day to day basis as he did not meet or collaborate with his old man.

He was busy with his operations with the red umbrella group and rarely spent time with his father, however, as he saw his cold body laid on the floor with his head separated from his body he couldn't help but cry like a madman as a surge of emotions buried deep within took over.

Max, who calmly watched everyone lose their minds felt like he was witnessing the apocalypse.

Vampires were crying, sinking their fangs into their own skins and taking a bite of their own flesh.

Some were punching walls until their fists bled while many were screaming their throats out.

Max had never witnessed this sort of pandemonium, it felt like the end of the world as the entire vampire society seemed to have plunged into darkness.

As he looked at Regus's cold dead body, Max thought about all the times when he internally mocked Regus for being called the ' Sun ' of the vampire society.

He wondered as to why the king would take such a lofty title and how it sounded cringe. However, today he realised that he had taken Regus's presence for granted. He really was the ' Sun ' the guiding light that rallied all the vampires under a single banner, as without him, everyone seemed to have lost their sense of purpose.

( Meanwhile the rest of the vampire society )

A black letter was issued with urgency to all the vampire lords and delivered with the swiftest of speeds.

The dark news of Zandar, soon reached all corners of vampire society as the same sort of darkness and madness that gripped Zandar, gripped every corner of the vampire world.

The weaker vampire lords fainted upon reading the letter, the stronger one's shed silent tears.

However, no matter their clan rank, no matter their personal like or dislike for Regus, everyone knew what his death meant for the vampire world as his death spelled ' Doom ' for the rest.

According to vampire law, if the king passed away, the council of lord's had to convene within 24 hours and appoint the leader of the first ranked clan as the next vampire king.

In-case the first ranked clan leader was also dead alongside the king, then the throne was to be passed down to the second ranked clan lord, which technically meant that both the Aurelius clan and the Caesar clan were disqualified from the throne race.

This meant that the responsibility to take the throne fell on the Velter clan now who were famously known to be merchants with no powerful warriors amongst their ranks, however, the third ranked clan leader Lord Vega Titus was dead as well.

It was truly the ' worst ' possible situation for the vampire society as a whole as heading into the meeting every lord knew that there was a possibility of the vampire society fracturing into several segments if a consensus regarding the next king was not reached.

There were many possible candidates, however, none of the traditional top clans were worthy of the position.

First, it was important that they buried King Regus with all royal honours and imperial code of conduct as described in the vampire tradition and observe a ceremony of mourning for the royal family.

However, the moment his body was laid to rest and the ceremony was over, the decision of who was going to become the next vampire king needed to be made.

The question of who would lead the vampires in this darkest hour was one of grave importance as the very existence of modern vampires as a race hung in balance.
