23 – Reversal (6)

The Vercia Brotherhood building was inside Heoden. I thought there was something like a parish, but it’s attached to the student district. It was approved to be built as a kind of social facility, but it seems that the investment was added when the academy was built.

“About here?”

Even if you get a little lost, you have enough time. I listen to lectures for three hours a day and the rest is all on my own. Today’s basic archery was a theory class. Perhaps because of Ein Kamphunt, no one openly harassed Kite. But.

“Hey, did you come with pig bural and pork feet?”

I don’t know if it’s a benefit or a loss in that they are more friends than enemies. Still, Ein Kamphund is rather fair because he is rude to everyone. A fighting dog that bites everything. I kind of accepted it that way.

“Hey.”

As he showed a map to passers-by, he asked about the temple of the Bersia Brotherhood.

“It’s a place that a believer would never know, but he must have been hurt somewhere?”

“No, I am going for an assignment.”

I headed to a place where I answered appropriately and was informed. Trey senior’s drawing skills are really terrible, and he’s a serious loser. It was the same as when I asked Kite for directions, not in the direction, but in the center of the object. Wherever you go, what will you see, what else will you see after passing there, and the more you hear, the more confused you become.

“It’s a bit dull for a temple.”

Black and yellow. It was a building decorated with only two colors. It seemed somehow serious and stoic. It’s just a guess. I am not religious, so I have no idea of the social position or doctrine of each sect spreading across the continent.

“What are you here for?”

When I arrived at the main gate, a person who looked like a regular investigator started talking to me.

“I came here to hear some sermons.”

When I say what Trey-senpai told me, she guides me right away. Upon entering the inner hall, the first thing I saw was the yard. In the center of it hangs a statue. Bersia must have been a goddess. It is more curved than expected.

When I went up the stairs, I came to Daeseongjeon (大成殿). A podium is visible in the distance, and everyone is quietly listening to the priest. Breathless, I sat down in the chair. I was puzzled because there were more female believers than I thought.

─The Brotherhood?

At a place like this, there must be some opportunities for dating. It is a place where men and women do not feel awkward even if they meet naturally. However, Trey didn’t recommend stopping by this place for that reason, so let’s think about it later.

Sitting silently, I listened and listened until the sermon was over. It was a longer story than I thought, but it was a bit bizarre for me, who doesn’t believe in religion. Soon after, the sermon was over, so we just pretended to pray together.

“Today, I end my sermon by giving this glory to our Blessed Mother, who spoke the truth through your servant, and wishing all the brothers gathered here happiness. If you have any doubts or doubts, please raise your hand. God will awaken you from your dreams and guide you on the right path.”

I raised my hand.

“It’s the first time I’ve seen a believer.”

I don’t know if I should introduce myself, but it was an atmosphere where I had to.

“I am a student studying magic in Heoden. I want to hear the Bercia Brotherhood’s position on magic today. If this was a rude question, I apologize in advance.”

I was asking the question as politely as possible. The priest at the podium looks at me silently. It didn’t feel so good to go through the streets. Seeing that the expressions of other believers are similar, it seems that it is a culture that is reluctant to ask questions.

“Looking at your outfit, you look like a support type?”

I was worried that I would hear the colorless mongrel sound here too, but the tone is kinder.

“The story might be long, so it would be better to talk separately. Why don’t you go to the underground sanctuary or confession room and have a good conversation? By any chance, brother, are you busy?”

I thanked him and stepped back. The priest urged the brothers who had nothing to worry about to go back now that today’s sermon was over. Nobody says anything else We just thanked each other and parted ways. Except for the fact that some believers took a quick look at my face and left, the dissolution was nothing special.

“Please follow me.”

I don’t know when I came, but the rank-and-file investigator who guided me at the front gate caught up with me. He goes downstairs and offers me a cup of tea. It’s too much to be kind to someone you see for the first time today. I was a little sorry to eat it.

“Judging from the fact that you are studying other fields of study, it seems that you have a personality that digs into the truth.”

“I don’t want to understand magic from a biased perspective.”

Smile happily. Before I knew it, I told the priest who was sitting in front of me clearly what I knew. He followed Uncle Ivor and had many things to report to the vigilantes, but thanks to that, he got a bit more talkative.

“As the theism says, if magical power comes from the branch of divine power, why can’t it be withdrawn with Hobarn?”

“That is proof that divine power is superior to magical power. God’s providence, in short, a miracle is a force that cannot be eliminated by matter. It is an irreversible phenomenon, and it is a new law that functions only with faith in the Absolute. On the other hand, magic imitates divinity in a way called drive. The truth is always the plain law.”

─It seems to miss the point.

“I am curious about the nature of both sides, not superiority and inferiority. So, do you mean that divine power and magical power are different?”

“Yes, it is. The divine law takes precedence over magic, so even Hobarn can’t help it. Both start from the same belief, but the gojeo is clear. Today, sorcerers insist on the theory of yoojae, but in the end, all of these powers come true only within the arrangement of the absolute. Representatively, the defense and healing power of paladins and saints proves this. It’s not an observed phenomenon, it’s a phenomenon that actually affects it.”

“As you say, isn’t it more correct to say that magic is an independent force?”

The logic seems to be circular, so I asked again.

“So, brother.”

My voice is quieter than before.

“Since God created this world and gave mankind power, Hobarn was introduced to show that divine power is real. Both divine power and magical power work only in faith, and since divinity is the power of God, it cannot be withdrawn in any way. Yes, the miracle that replaced the providence of the omniscient and omnipotent God cannot be undone.”

Something is not clear. If the same origin or different phenomena occur, they are different, and consequently, we cannot deny the original logic that they are independent of each other. Superiority and inferiority are not important issues here.

“Then, may I ask the Church of Bersia’s position on Hobarn?”

When the question changes, the facial muscles tremble slightly. As far as I know, neither the royal family nor the religious world deny Hobarn. That’s because it’s the symbol of the Holy Knights, and it’s used by talented people raised in the Kingdom.

“God’s toy.”

“A toy?”

“Yes, it was arranged on purpose to show the incompleteness of magic. By showing the reversibility of magic, we can infer that even if it comes from one root, it is inferior in all aspects compared to the new law. In reality, magic is nothing compared to the saint’s miracles. It can’t even restore people, and there are cases where magicians have a real effect on the human body. Doesn’t that all happen in mental processes?”

This agrees with Alex B. Lawton’s view. I went round and round and arrived at the same logic I read in the book. Although somewhat biased, I don’t think Yoo Jae-ron is right either. In other words, it is hard to deny that magic is a kind of mental illness and even a kind of mental illness. Moreover, if the Divine Law regenerates the human body, doesn’t that have more solid evidence than Hobarn?

“Why don’t you go and experience it once?”

At the priest’s invitation, she asked if it would be possible to meet the saintess. Simple wounds will be resolved by His mercy, so I will show you. With this, I solved the assignment Trey-senpai gave me. Looking forward to it a little Anyway, what kind of existence is a saintess?

“Then, come here.”

An ordinary investigator appears again and guides me to the depths. When I asked if anything could be cured, I was told that everything from worries to rejuvenation to scars on the body is possible. Is it possible to heal the body of a completely crippled person?

“All the pain and loss our brothers face on this earth is a gift from God to overcome.”

─One skinny logic is awesome.

After silently following, a secret room appears. At first glance, the door and the wall were the same, to the point of not even knowing their existence. When the priest knocked on the stone wall, a human voice came from inside.

“I’m still an apprentice, so please don’t mess with me with repeated words.”

He said that he would wait in front of it, and he said that he would go in alone.

“Are you a meritorious student by any chance?”

“Yes.”

I don’t know why you’re asking this. The regular investigator patted me on the shoulder and smiled, wishing me a good time. Pretending not to know, I opened the sliding door and went inside. It gave off a strong scent. It smelled like a rose, or something like that.

“The believer is here.”

─What is this woman?

Suddenly, the door closed behind him.

“I heard you were a saint over there?”

Nodded. Her finely combed pink hair hung down to the floor. I didn’t know where to look, so I lowered my head slightly. If I’m not mistaken, her outfit is problematic.

“He must have come because he needed a miracle of healing. Or, don’t blame God for the pain. Because the Blessed Mother spared us and gave us this process of pain and healing. All of this is a journey to enlightenment.”

—I understand that.

“Can you show me the affected part?”

A few years ago, an arrowhead cut my forearm long when I didn’t wear an armband. I let it go because everyone is going through that, but Kite later found out and she was so angry that she promised to heal someday.

“First of all, there…… Yes.”

I rolled up her sleeves and put them up to her forearms. She asked if the saintess could touch her hand to heal her without touching my arm. When she affirms, she strokes it over and over again with a gentle touch. There is no dirty feeling. I am the only one who feels dirty.

No matter how you think about it, it was because of her outfit. Her clothes are normal. Black and yellow, like the nuns I usually see. However, the fabric is ridiculously thin. Her underwear was all see through and even her thighs were visible.

To some extent, the rose embroidery on the *bustier was visible. It felt bizarre to be treated in this condition. When I hesitated, a woman called the saint comforted me with a pretentious smile.

“I am Di Rosa Hue. She was a commoner before becoming a saint, so she doesn’t have to be so nervous.”

─Not nervous, excited. What are you talking about?
