14 – Winning without Lifting a Finger

Do Ban, who captured the enchanting golden eyes that sparkled between her lush, snowy-white eyelashes, the cool lips that were smooth and placed beneath her soft cheeks, the straight nose and slender jawline, couldn’t help but shiver as he formed a chilling smile.

“Oh…! It seems the heavens have blessed me! Finding an item that resembles the useless experiment before returning!”

Lian hadn’t seen her own reflection yet, so she didn’t notice how her face looked, but she resembled the beautiful colors enough to lie about being Iris’s brother.

“I have another task to take care of before going back!”

Do Ban forgot about what had just happened and, chuckling softly, took a step forward to grab Lian.

Squeak.

There was a parasite crawling towards Do Ban, with its body on the floor. Do Ban stepped on the squishy parasite and slipped forward.

“Huh…?”

Time seemed to slow down for him. His sight forcibly shook and revealed the ceiling. Then, a sharp pain spread from the back of his head.

Thump!

“Ouch…!”

He hit the back of his head and collapsed on the floor.

“What? W-What was that sound just now?”

Lian looked around with a bewildered expression. No matter how much she searched the direction where the sound came from, there was nothing that could have made such a noise.

Even the transparent parasite couldn’t be seen as it clung onto Do Ban’s shoe.

“Was it a sound from somewhere else? Something must have happened… Hey, guys, I’ll go check it out first!”

Lian worried that something serious had happened and quickly ran out after saying goodbye to the children. The two children also left their places, frightened by the loud noise.

“Ugh…”

Doban pressed the back of his head and struggled to get up. There was a big bump the size of a fist growing on the back of his head.

“Damn brats!”

He cursed as if he had forgotten the fact that he had to hide his existence. The fact that he had tripped over was all because of the parasite he had thrown away, but the truth was not important to Doban.

“I have to gather those materials and kill the rest.”

It seemed that the anger would not subside unless he did so. Thinking that way, as he extended his tongue and licked his lips, he saw a flickering black light at the corner of his vision. The dark magic that indicated the presence of a toxic plant was still active.

“Phew… First, I have to find the toxic plant and get those materials. Then I’ll turn this place into a wasteland and escape.”

He chuckled to himself and began following the black light. When he reached the end of his journey, he arrived at a spacious kitchen.

The black light twirled around on a glass bottle placed on one side of the kitchen.

“Hmm, did I mishear?”

He thoroughly checked every corner of the house but couldn’t find any place that could have made such a loud noise. He thought lightly, racking his brain.

“Did Mia make a loud noise while conducting an experiment?”

Mia had mentioned that she needed to prepare for a new experiment and there wouldn’t be any experiments today.

Probably, there was no other reasonable explanation than a loud noise coming from her experiment. That was all he could speculate.

“I should ask her later.”

With that in mind, he moved towards the kitchen. He needed to prepare a meal.

“What should I prepare today?”

Mia had brought back high-quality meat and vegetables from her outing, so they could have a luxurious meal. But he didn’t think that way.

“I can’t use them recklessly since I don’t know when the supplies will run out!”

Mia not only bought plenty of ingredients but also obtained some ingredients using her gadget filter, but since they had more than one mouth to feed, he couldn’t know when they would run out.

“Meat spoils quickly, so I should use it generously.”

He thought about grilling meat, which he hadn’t done in a long time, and entered the kitchen.

Swoosh.

“Huh?”

At that moment, he heard a rolling sound. When he turned his gaze, a glass bottle containing tea leaves that he had placed there had fallen over.

“Why is it knocked over?”

Did the children play a trick?

He approached the fallen bottle to set it upright. As he reached for the bottle, he accidentally pushed it and it fell.

The bottle rolled, teetering on the edge of the table, threatening to fall to the ground. I urgently lowered myself, reaching out to catch it.

Thunk!

“Phew, that was close.”

Breathing a sigh of relief internally, I stood up and placed the tea leaf bottle back where it belonged, with a satisfied smile.

“Oh, I should put it away since the kids might touch it again.”

I took a step back, holding the bottle I had just put down, contemplating where to store it.

“Maybe placing it on a higher shelf would be a good idea.”

It seemed like a good idea to put it on the upper shelf.

As Lian pondered where to place the tea leaf bottle, Dovan gasped for breath, in a disheveled state.

“Ugh, damn it…”

There’s a common scene in comedy anime. When someone with ill intentions tries to attack another person, they end up stumbling comically due to fate’s intervention. They might be obstructed by a flying pamphlet or slip at the moment of trying to strike, hitting themselves instead.

Even if the person with ill intentions ends up in a chaotic situation on the floor, the other party remains oblivious, continuing with their business as if nothing happened.

Dovan, despite his chaotic rolling on the floor and struggling, failed to get Lian’s attention.

“This time, I’ll catch him and confront him!”

Dovan exclaimed, determined. His neatly arranged hair was now a mess, and reddish-purple bruises adorned various parts of his body.

His current state was the result of an incident that had occurred just a while ago.

At the moment Lian entered the kitchen, Dovan, startled by the sudden presence, lost control and dropped the tea leaf bottle. Seeing Lian, he thought the situation had turned in his favor.

“Why is it toppled over like that?”

When he saw Lian approaching to set the tea leaf bottle upright, Dovan thought everything had gone perfectly. The vision of his triumphant act was already vivid in his mind.

As Lian came close enough to touch, Dovan extended his hand toward her, intending to cast a restraining spell. Just as Dovan’s hand was about to cover Lian!

Roll.

“Oops!”

To catch the falling bottle, Lian swiftly lowered her body.

Swish!

“Huh…?”

In doing so, she inadvertently swung her arm through the air, narrowly missing Dovan’s arm. Fueled by the intense desire to possess Lian, Dovan’s arm, full of strength, couldn’t overcome the swinging recoil and lightly tapped Dovan’s body.

Swoosh!

Black chains appeared, wrapping around his body. The chains wound tightly, choking him even to the point of sealing his mouth shut.

“Ugh…!”

He collapsed like a bowling pin, writhing in unexpected agony. The thief’s face contorted grotesquely in the unforeseen situation.

His eyes widened, blood vessels bursting.

‘Dispel!’

Quickly, he dismantled the magic, barely managing to rise from his position. Lian had returned the tea leaf bottle to its original place.

“Ah, gasp… This time for sure!”

Excitedly, he flashed his eyes and rushed towards Lian. In that moment, Lian stepped back, and his arms swiped through empty air.

“…!”

His body tilted forward, the lower half weak and the arms of the upper body plump, causing him to tumble and roll, finally stopping as he collided with the wall.

“Thunk!”

He lay there, shaking, before struggling to get back up.

‘Never this time -… Never make a mistake!’

In the excitement, he clumsily struggled to grab Lian, but he was a dark wizard, accustomed to casting spells from a distance.

Pointing the staff at Lian, he conjured a torture spell into the air.

‘For humiliating me like this… There must be a price to pay.’

As soon as Lian foamed at the mouth and fainted from pain, he could easily move in and finish the spell. Dovan wickedly smiled, completing the dark magic as he swung the staff to unleash the spell.

“Yo!”

The guest, mentioned missing in the kitchen, had arrived.

“Huh? Lady Rania?”

Lian, with a surprised expression, turned to the direction of the sound. Rania, who had approached silently, sniffed the air beside Lian.

‘No… this can’t be…’

Every second felt like decades for Dovan. He wanted to stop the magic immediately, but the swung arm couldn’t be halted, and the unleashed spell had no means of being dismantled.

Swoooosh…

“Muuurrrrder…!”

Dovan’s voice echoed slowly as the spell shot towards Lian. More precisely, it aimed at Rania, standing next to Lian.

Dovan, now with a runny nose, wore an astonished expression. His magic was about to reach Rania.

“…”

“Thunk…!”

In the slowed passage of time, Rania gazed towards Doban. It was a natural movement, as if she didn’t feel the flow of time.

Swoosh!

Rania lightly waved her hand, as if shooing away a buzzing insect.

Pfft!

The magic flying towards Rania and Lian rebounded.

“Ugh…!”

The rebounded magic struck Doban’s spine, causing him to scream and collapse.
