I Have a Safari Park

Chapter 274 When Chameleon Meets Skittles

Seeing the colorful chameleon hiding behind the leaves, the tourists gradually dispersed to see other animals.

Dawu looked at the chameleon's half body exposed outside the leaves, touched his chin and thought, "Hey, doesn't the chameleon change its body color according to the environment? There are brown tree trunks and green leaves in this exhibition box, why does its body change its color? What about turning into red and yellow? There is still blue on the body, and how did it become."

Lin Hao shook his head with some doubts, indicating that he was not very clear.

There are relatively few popular science exhibition cards in the climbing hall, because there are a lot of animals here. Except for key animals like the giant salamander, there is no very specific exhibition card for each animal. It is accompanied by pictures of animals, Origin, briefly introduce.

Popular science exhibition cards are generally located at the corners of the corridors of the exhibition halls, mainly to introduce a certain type of animals!

Lily's visit is a bit more sloppy, unlike the two of them who have to take a look at each exhibition box, the kind of dingy lizard little turtle that looks more rustic and doesn't care much, only the animals with higher appearance and beautiful appearance. Will appreciate it carefully for half a day.

At this time, he had walked to the front, greeted the two of them softly, and pointed to a display board in front of him: "Hey, look, here is the reason why the chameleon changes color!"

The exhibition card begins with two very interesting questions!

If you put a chameleon on a neon light that keeps changing color, will the chameleon keep changing color and finally die from exhaustion?

If you throw a handful of colorful Skittles at a chameleon, what color does it turn into?

Dawu was shocked: "Damn, this is a question that people can think of? Chameleon lovers strongly condemn neon lights and Skittles!"

Lin Hao couldn't help complaining: "The chameleon said, I may not be human, but you are real dogs!"

I didn't rush to look down the reasons, but thought about it myself first.

The first question should be no, if you really want to keep changing color and die, it is not death of exhaustion but stupid death.

Throwing Skittles, does it randomly change to a certain color? Or keep changing colors?

However, this idea was quickly rejected by him, because I saw an example of a chameleon changing color just now. It was obvious that the trunk and green leaves in the exhibition box turned red and yellow. This has nothing to do with the environment!

The exhibition board introduced that in the biological world, there are two sources of color formation, including pigment color and structural color!

Pigment color is the absorption and reflection of certain wavelengths of visible light by chemical substances, while structural color is the color produced by the action of physical structure, such as the rainbow on an optical disc.

Early people believed that the change of body color of chameleon was due to the stimulation of the external environment, which led to changes in the distribution of pigment cell granules on the body surface, and then changes in body color. But current research has found that many chameleons do not actually have green pigments in their bodies.

So why is it green? It is because there is a layer of iridophores under the pigment cells on the surface of the chameleon. The irradiated cells contain nanoscale crystals arranged in a triangular grid, and this crystal is the key factor for discoloration.

When the chameleon is in a relaxed mood, the crystals in the iris cells are closely arranged to reflect blue light, which passes through the epidermis containing the yellow pigment, making the chameleon appear green.

When the mood is tense, the spacing between the crystals widens and longer wavelengths of light are reflected, allowing the chameleon's body color to vary from yellow to red.

Therefore, the body color of chameleons in human eyes is the interweaving of the chemical color of the cytochrome on the body surface and the structural color formed by the reflection of the iris layer.

In general, males in chameleons have bright and eye-catching colors, and females are much inferior. This is because the iris cells in the upper layer of males are more developed.

Therefore, chameleons change color mainly to express emotions and transmit signals, which is equivalent to the language of communication between them!

"I see!"

Lin Hao suddenly realized after reading the exhibition card.

Think about the question mentioned at the beginning of the exhibition card, the neon light changes color, and the chameleon lying on it just keeps the green indifferent?

The colorful chameleon just now was probably nervous when the tourists saw it, so it turned red and yellow and hid behind the leaves.

After understanding this knowledge, look back at the previous display box of colorful chameleons.

The tourists disperse and climb out from behind the leaves again, restoring the tranquil blue-green color.

Lin Hao had a strange feeling in his heart. He just admired its rainbow-like appearance, but now he can suddenly feel its mood.

It can be said that it is an animal that is "mood and anger"!

I couldn't help but say to Dawu: "Actually, before I came to visit today, I was not particularly interested. I thought the reptiles were cold and boring, but now my impression has changed a little. It seems to be quite interesting to see them! I kind of want to raise a chameleon."

Dawu laughed and said, "Yeah! Especially the environment of the exhibition hall, it's great. I think in such a beautiful exhibition hall, no matter what you see, it's very interesting."

Lizards, turtles, chameleons, frogs, snakes, and animals of various types and environments are all mixed together. After all, in the eyes of ordinary tourists, they do not look very different. If one type is only raised in one area, go for a walk. Walking around will make you feel tired.

In this way, you can try to keep the visiting experience as fresh as possible.

While strolling around, Lin Hao was again attracted by the snakes in a large exhibition box.

There are rich layers of green vegetation in the exhibition box, some bright green moss and ferns at the bottom, and there are lilies climbing on the back wall, and a few drops of dew fall on the leaves, as if it has just rained. A moist feeling came over me.

As if in the exhibition box, a corner of the tropical rain forest was intercepted!

Several sinking trees are placed in a very shapely sense, and a green python is wrapped around a horizontal tree trunk slightly higher than the sight of tourists.

Rather than being entangled, it is drooping. The shape is a "U" shape with two layers nested outward. The head is placed in the middle of the "U" character, and the tail cannot be seen.

In the white eyes, there is a thin black line, which should be the pupils of the green tree python.

On the neatly arranged small scales, there are some clear and crystal water droplets remaining, like a green bamboo that has just been rained, very beautiful!

"What a beautiful snake!"

Lin Hao was once again amazed, and leaned over to look at the label below.

Green tree python, native to Australia and other places, is a small arboreal python!

The adult body generally does not exceed 1.8 meters.

A family of three passed by, and the little boy stared at the green tree python and said happily, "Mama, look, this snake is so beautiful!"

Mom was scared and took Dad's hand: "Hey, don't let me see snakes, I don't like snakes the most, scaring people to death."

Lin Hao admired it for a while, and saw the green tree python sound asleep, motionless, and continued to look at other animals.
