I Hate Systems

225 The Haughtily Normal Cat

"Stay here and protect Grisha!" Compass Carburettor said, placing the cobra on the ground, watching it slither towards the bed before settling down under it.

He then arrived at the ground floor, watching the rows and rows of eggs around as he passed by, arriving at the entrance. Thanks to the mutation, the ants had a pretty quick generation. It took the queen ant a day to lay down the eggs that hatched after another day.

The hatchlings grew to adulthood within three days. All in all, within five days, adult ants were produced. It was a frightening pace since the queen was able to lay down hundreds of eggs every day.

'With a few more ant queens under me, I'll be able to raise a large enough army to bother the System Hosts.' Thinking as such, Compass Carburettor exited the house, watching a mosquito arrive before him.

It was slightly larger than the rest as a tiny horn was growing on its forehead. Though, it hadn't finished evolving yet. It was the mosquito under his control, saying through telepathy, "A mutated cat is growing in an apartment complex next street. It'll help you, Lord Spirit."

"Thanks," Nodding in response, the figure of Compass Carburettor flashed towards the roof of the building as the pair of boots appeared on his legs, "Follow me."

He flashed from the roof of one house to another, soon landing on the pavement extending above the window of a room in the designated apartment building. From there, his figure continued to flash until he reached the roof.

He planned to scour down from the topmost floor. In the case the cat had the same power as him, it would be able to escape from the apartment from the top.

Arriving at the top, he smiled, kicking open the iron door easily as he entered the building.

With the Skill of Strength at level 10, it was a lie if he said he wasn't superhuman. The only reason that such strength hadn't come to play much was that he was limiting himself all along to make him look like a regular human.

Displaying the full extent of his strength was a giveaway that he was either a System Host or a System Slayer. In the Darble World, since Regriel had the means of prying out information from women after enslaving them, he never showed the full extent of his abilities.

Otherwise, a lot could be made easier. Though, it was also true that his strength never came into use. After all, his enemies were Systems, entities that couldn't be simply destroyed through brute force.

'Only in this world am I finally beginning to make use of all my abilities. Still, I have to be inconspicuous and not reveal anything in the eyes of others.' Sighing in response, he held two Armaments, ready to condense them at a moment's notice.

The moment he entered the apartment, Compass Carburettor frowned upon smelling an intense stench of blood, asking through telepathy, "What has happened here?"

"It seems the cat has been devouring the humans here to strengthen itself. That's how it has managed to quickly grow a horn. To prevent anyone from escaping, it first devoured everyone from the first two floors. Since the ground is pretty much off-limits due to the grass blocking the way, it has trapped everyone in the confines of this apartment." The mosquito iterated everything it had sensed.

"I see…" Compass Carburettor nodded, proceeding through the corridor as he stepped on dried pools of blood, soon reaching the fifteenth floor. The apartment had sixteen floors in total. The doors had claw marks on them, targeted only at the doorknobs, shredding them apart before pushing the door open.

'How did it break open the first door…' He frowned, arriving before a certain door on the fifteenth floor, noticing that the claw marks had been made from the inside.

The marks were also numerous, showing that the cat didn't have enough strength to pry it open as it had done on the sixteenth floor. The couple of doors nearby were more or less the same as Compass Carburettor noticed the rest of the doors being broken in one swift strike.

'So, it only arrived to break in the rest of the doors here after having its fill on the sixteenth floor.' He nodded, noticing that the blood before a certain door was still wet, a sign that it had been recent.

He then continued to walk, noticing a Mental Energy stream fall on him from behind him. It was from one of the rooms he had passed by.

As the door was ajar and since there were traces of blood all over the living room, he didn't search within. But, it seemed the cat had been hiding within this place, 'So, it has enough smarts to hide in a preyed-upon area to mask itself using the scent of the blood. Or, has it sensed my presence and then hid inside?'

Smiling in response, he continued to walk the same as usual, looking like he was searching for the cat, unaware of the creature that was stealthily walking from behind.

The cat was the same size as a regular cat, its appearance too remaining the same. Moreover, there wasn't even a drop of blood on it, not to mention any scent of blood. It was…pretty clean.

And now, it continued to watch Compass Carburettor, stretching its body from time to time, casually licking its paws while following him.

And, right as Compass Carburettor turned around the corner, beginning to head down the stairs, it stretched its body once again, yawning silently before slowly walking out, opening its mouth to unleash a cute sound.

Meow!

After turning around, it noticed the figure of Compass Carburettor, gazing at him once before turning around to walk down the stairs, haughtily, as if it owned the entire building, just as how every cat behaved.

It then continued to descent down the stairs, heading into the fourteenth floor before beginning to scratch the door of a certain house.

"Go away!" Came an angry woman's voice from within, clearly irritated by its antics.

Meow!

The cat continued to scratch the door, only increasing the frequency of its scratching.
