I Hate Systems

215 The First Settlement

Kahyieee!

The pig shrieked as the energy blades dug into its body. Right as its horn glowed, about to unleash its breath attack, Compass Carburettor kicked its jaw, knocking it unconscious. He then hacked at its neck, soon severing it.

As there was no System Host around him, he was able to use his abilities without worry. With that, dealing with a one-horned mutated beast was pretty simple.

Once the pig was killed, he pried open its body, fishing out a pearl from within, "There's no orb inside."

He sighed, turning around to look at the teenager and the leader that had rushed over, saying as he showed them the pearl, "This is what we have to consume to unleash our abilities."

He then wrapped the pig's head in a piece of cloth.

"Now, pick up some weapons and follow me. It seems there are more of them on this hill." Compass Carburettor said, shouting after that, "Is there any doctor here?"

"I'm a doctor!" One of the people arrived, taking a look at the woman, sighing as he shook his head, "It would be impossible to reattach her leg since the pig had crushed most of her thigh bone."

"See if you can treat her." Saying his piece, he brought the leader and the teenager with him, leaving the place. Based on the Mental Energy stream he felt from the people, they would try their best to save the unconscious woman.

He didn't care about anything beyond that. At present, since the fire was still raging on, he had some time. And in that window, he thought of giving these people a headstart.

Even though it was completely unnecessary, it would weigh on his conscience to just leave them unprotected, especially since he has the time and means to save them.

The three people soon entered a forest stretch as the hissing sounds of a snake resounded. The scent of the pig's blood had lured it over.

Even though it seemed like he wasn't able to see it in the dark, the Mental Energy stream he got from it was a clear giveaway of its location. He waited calmly, taking with the other two to make it seem like he hadn't sensed its location yet.

But, the moment it planned to swipe at him, his figure vanished as its neck was severed.

Compass Carburettor fished through its body, surprised that it had an orb this time. He pocketed them and brought the teenager and the leader deeper into the forest, calmly hunting any and every mutated beast he had come across.

There were also some animals there that he just scared away. After all, killing them was useful when they became mutated beasts.

He made the cobra devour the mutated snake, much to its delight. Even though the other two were curious as to what he was doing, they didn't ask any questions, realising that Compass Carburettor was a man of many mysteries.

For the next one hour, the two men were barely able to keep up with his pace as Compass Carburettor casually hunted any and every mutated beast he came across. Finally, after finding three orbs, he stopped.

Of the three, he gave one to the teenager and the leader respectively, also giving them a pearl each, saying, "Consume them both at the same time. Otherwise, you won't have enough energy to awaken an ability."

"Thank you," The teenager nodded and consumed it without any hesitation. As for the leader, he paused to gaze at the changes in the teenager, surprised when the other party grunted for a couple of seconds.

"Amazing…!" The teenager said as he condensed a crossbow in his hands, "It seems this is my first item."

Now that he understood the concept of the power system, he was even more confused, "How are you able to use it so many times? And, what's up with the light sabres?"

"Haha, it's your turn now." Compass Carburettor refused to answer, looking at the leader swallow his orb and a pearl.

What he condensed after that was a gauntlet, amazed at the power he obtained. And, after understanding the power system in place, he too looked at Compass Carburettor in confusion.

Along the way, they dragged over the corpses of the mutated beasts they had killed as Compass Carburettor said, "I'll be taking most of these. You can carry the rest with you and head towards the settlement. The world has changed, so good luck surviving."

"You're not coming with us?" The leader and the teenager asked in alarm, finding solace in his protection.

After all, Compass Carburettor seemed level headed, giving them the assurance that if they followed him, then their lives in this apocalypse would be easier.

But, he refused adamantly, bidding them farewell as he remained behind with the pile of mutated beast carcasses. Once they had gone far away, he consumed a pearl and summoned his mongoose, causing it to devour to its fill before it vanished.

With that settled, he undressed, returning to his Haggon form as he opened his mouth and tossed all the mutated beasts inside. Having understood that the flesh of the mutated beasts was more beneficial than regular food, he ate them without hesitation.

As he ate his fill, he realised that he had eaten through all the mutated beasts forming the pile, smirking as he took on his human form, wore his dress and began to walk towards the foot of the hill. "Are you feeling any changes?"

"It would still take me a day to become a one-horned cobra, Uncle Spirit." The cobra replied, a little sullen at the time it required to evolve, "If only I hadn't spat out that mongoose corpse, I would have evolved by now. It was way better than what I consumed now."

"It does seem like the mutated beasts on Mount Craire are superior." Laughing in response, Compass Carburettor arrived at the foot of the hills, watching the fire beginning to thin. But, it had spread far away, seemingly stretching for as far as the field of grass had spanned.

"This was precisely what I had been hoping for." Letting out a sigh in relief, he placed his clothes in his bag, taking on the Haggon form before hopping into the sea of fire, unaffected as he began to run.

"What's that?"

"Monster!"

"Kyak!"

The people on the mountain trembled in fright upon seeing such a prehistoric creature. Compass Carburettor gazed at the figure of the leader and the teenager in their midst, nodding at them once before turning around to sprint away, soon vanishing in the sea of flames.

"Was that…?" The teenager was shocked as he looked at the leader.

"This world has become terrifying…!" The leader sighed as he patted the teenager's shoulder.
