7 – Crash(7)

Cannibal tribes.

In the game, ‘The Great Dakka’, they held various meanings.

They were an easy means to portray the chaotic nature of the world.

They were also a means to showcase the weakest enemies without seeming unnatural.

Thus, the cannibal tribes were quite familiar to many users.

Although they indulged in cannibalism, only a very few overly immersed themselves in the game.

Most were focused on the experience points or items that cannibals dropped at the early stages.

Or they found their appearance amusing.

But now, I couldn’t simply find the face-to-face encounter with the cannibals amusing.

Cannibalism is taboo. No matter how desolate the world becomes, it remains so.

Even so, cannibals break these taboos because they have nothing else to eat, because of religious reasons, or because of some twisted desire.

If I were to choose the least repugnant among all these, it would be cannibalism out of lack of food.

It would be understandable, although unacceptable, to turn to cannibalism in a land where crops don’t grow, and animals are scarce.

But what about the homunculus? Where would a cannibalistic homunculus stand?

Being a completely whole entity even without eating or drinking, and barely even needing to breathe.

How should I perceive their cannibalism?

I squinted my eyes, looking carefully at the dining process of my people, which I didn’t want to describe in detail.

I wanted to write a eulogy right then, to punch that face, to run away from that place.

But I didn’t do any of that.

Instead, I took one step at a time …He opened his eyes and looked at his compatriot.

“Do you want to eat?”

That was the first word he said to me. Whether then or now, what he handed over as if showing mercy was always human flesh.

“Lord, it’s usually insulting to hand over the food you were eating to a guest.”

Only then did the monster glance at the girl who frowned.

She, like a child who made a mistake, looked at me and then at the wizard.

“I’m glad that I prepared in advance,”

Is this child in power? From where my eyes were headed, the wizard was holding two silver trays.

“It’s meat from an animal that’s not left much in the castle.”

When the middle-aged man said that, he opened the lid with a pleased smile.

The food that was revealed was a masterpiece with a superb skill even at a glance.

A dish with a well-cooked brown meat with grains in the sauce.

It looked like steak. It looked delicious. It was a kind I had never eaten before I got this body.

However,

“I’m not going to eat.”

There was no guarantee that it wasn’t human flesh. Even if it was not human flesh, I didn’t feel like eating.

I belonged to a race that didn’t have to eat and didn’t need to eat. If I had to eat something, it would be better to eat preserved food that was sold cheaply.

In the first place, I didn’t come here to eat. I wasn’t here to get along well or surrender.

“Is that so? I personally cooked it, it would be quite excellent …”

Rather, I was here to find out something.

What purpose they need me and Isla, why my tribe is cannibalistic.

If it’s a convincing reason, to leave peacefully.

“Since you don’t seem to want to be welcomed, shall we get to the point?”

The wizard said that. The following point was fine anyway.

“I hope that the Lord will stay in this castle. Exactly, I hope to be a friend… but it can’t be done if you want.”

My compatrioft fidgeted with the meat at the man’s shy look.

“Isla?”

“I hope the hunter will help us.”

That’s all. A magician who closed his mouth and made a soft smile.

Even just showing a hand forward was the most peaceful gesture for a wizard.

Suggesting an animal meant like signaling what kind of magic to use, and when.

I looked at the hand closely.

Most of the rings on the hand looked like “items”. Dungeon or human-made magical items.

The cloak or leather armor he wore on his body were also magical items. Obviously, his or Islas level was higher than mine.

If I got close, I might be able to win with stats and luck….

There were too many variables.

So I put my hand down and asked.

“Exactly what?”

“Uhmm, I’d like to ask that when we’re alone as much as possible. It’s for our castle.”

“Isn’t it okay to tell me?”

At the words of the magician, pulling and stroking his cloak a shocked expression.

Apparently, he didn’t expect my tribe to take my side. He quickly erased his defeated expression and glanced at me.

” Teach us how to catch prey, hide the body, deal with slings, bows, spears, axes, and lead the hunting directly. Speaking simply… become our hunting leader.”

And the words that came out of his mouth didn’t stray from expectations. I slowly put down my hand and lightly rapped Isla’s pale back of the hand.

As soon as I did, Isla’s tail, which had been still, began to twitch finely. Her tail looked full of fur.

Even though he said so, he didn’t have to tell me what the prey was.

As I turned my head slightly, I could see the food my tribe was eating. Next to that food was a the head of a half-eaten person.

I didn’t know where the food warehouse was, but I guess what’s inside would be similar.

They were not cannibals for nothing.

They were threatening Isla to help hunt people, and directly hunt.

It was just a form of persuasion, but in reality it was a threat that everyone could see.

Wondering if she knew that, instead of answering, Isla quietly wrapped her tail around my wrist.

The expression on her face as she frowned and looked at the wizard might not even understand herself, but I saw the tail of Isla.Enjoying the fuzzy sensation, he sighed.

Being here, obediently captured and trapped in this place, was partly because of the primal fear – I did not want to die.

But that was not the primary reason.

I wanted to understand them. The reason why my kind, who did not need to resort to cannibalism, indulged in it anyway, in this fresh land. I wanted to comprehend their choice of life.

Although I might not be able to accept it, I could at least have quietly found a way out.

I intended to forget about them and strive for my long-term goals with Isla.

Unfortunately, however, this was not possible.

My sigh became a desolate breath.

“You.”

When I raised my head, the sorcerer still wore the same expression.

A leisurely expression, as if nothing I could do would be of a significant threat.

My kind was like a young child. With the figure of a girl, but her actions indicating a mental age close to four or five years old.

Yet, she had no hesitation towards cannibalism. She consumed even though there was no nutritional need.

Words like defect, and substandard product occurred to me instinctively.

Perhaps they were so unstable for a while.

There might be some particular reason.

I wanted to think so.

But since I recognized who the wizard in front of me was, things did not go as I hoped.

I couldn’t help it. After all, I could not have imagined that I would meet him in such a place.

“What is an Imperial Noble doing here?”

I should have recognized him by the red spear he was swinging.

Even though he demonstrated the magic, a symbol of the empire’s vision and the emblem of its wars, letting me know he was undoubtedly an Imperial magician of high rank.

I momentarily forgot about it in the shock of learning that this land was the new continent.

After a decade had passed, the game provided an isometric perspective, and the 1:1 match did not register.

So I did not realize it, until just a moment ago.

The versatile wizard who participated in cannibalism was, after all, quite uncommon.

The sorcerer’s face hardened and, faced with the outpouring magic, Isla gasped. Her tail tightened around my wrist.

“How exactly…?”

While panicking, Beorot loosened his clenched hands. Despite my inability to feel magic, I could sense a chilling tension and braced myself.

“It’s been a while, Beorot.”

Thrill killer, Hannibal Lecter from Grim Dacker, a sub quest who left a sickening aftertaste and concealed his whereabouts.

Cannibal guardian, Beorot Tomula.

And his daughter-like homunculus, Ailla Tomula.

Amid the silence at my words, Beorot contorted his face in shock and animosity. I could guess what would happen next.

I had detailed knowledge of this Named NPC’s attack pattern.

Come what may, the dominant hand would be mine to play.

Since the beginning, I never enjoyed letting other people take control.

The choice should always be in my hands.

“A heretic Inquisitor…!”

Such a thing can’t happen.

A homunculus cannot become a heretic Inquisitor.

All races could join the Inquisition, but only the homunculi were perpetually hostile with the inquisitors.

But I could tolerate being mistaken to that extent.

His broken breath pattern, the hasty and rash decisions made trouble out of shock and anger.

Very slight gaps created by such behavior provided the loopholes I needed, and the misunderstanding was a small price to pay.

I braced myself.

The red spear was thrown. Although I could not sense any magic, I could still perceive the threat.

Shiiik!

The charging magic created a rush of wind.

– !

I heard the sound a puckered mouth made, a voice that could not articulate words, a spear made out of magic.

I estimated the path that the spear would take.

The only way to bridge the gap between the game and reality was instinct.

One last time, I remembered my sister’s face.

The last time I saw her face.

[Mourning]

With that, I accelerated.

Whhhhhooooshhh!

The trajectory of the red spear caused my right arm to disappear. Just as I expected, the intensifying red spear burned my right arm and it vanished.

The pain seared my brain before subsiding. Only that which existed remained— I hastened forward, reducing the distance between myself and my kind, who was taken aback and threw a punch in my direction. The magician who appeared in the novel stares at me.

I am a beast. Merely having my arm cut off doesn’t stop me. I truly believed that.

Thud!

Rolling onto my foot, I released the restrained acceleration directly into my leg.

Then, a roar echoed around me.

My extended leg was blocked. A hastily conjured shield. But, it distorted like a shattered mirror and the magician’s body was pushed back.

Bang!

Bang, bang, rumbling!

Bullied by Beort’s body. Even with a well-trained body, it could not handle the surprise attack. He smashed into the wall, shedding debris as he rolled around the floor.

I took the chance. I scanned the open door, Isla, and my remaining tribe.

It didn’t take long for Beort to stand back up.

Beort Tomula, a resilient magician of the War Mages. His body is as well-trained as a formidable warrior. Moreover, he cast a shield.

Obviously, it would take about 2 seconds to get back up.

So my next move was decided.

I gritted my teeth, seeing my tribesmen rushing towards me. Fists swung wildly at me.

A force that would lead to instant death for an ordinary human. But not to me.

Although they are more advanced due to their higher level, that’s it. This girl isn’t a mourner.

So I raise my left arm and wedge it into the path of the attack. Despite the whole body being rocked by the shock, the pain doesn’t reach the brain.

Steadying myself from the blocked attack, I reached out and grabbed the girl’s throat.

And without resisting the force hoisting up my body, I moved.

Thud-thud-thud-thonk!

My body and the ground collide consecutively. The girl’s body caves in and is flung towards the wall.

It flies out with the satisfying feel of a solidly kicked football. But the gap is probably just as big.

Just as I am standing up and casting magic, I see a magician and immediately hit the floor.

From noble mtl dot com

“What–“

Enveloping Isla, who cleverly rolled on the ground and caught a dinner knife, I slammed the door open with my shoulder.

Wood and iron rolled on the floor. The corridor that followed and the pipe that protruded above it.

Familiar structures and formats. I ran, recalling the layout of the dungeons I had mastered over time.

My target was the deepest part of the dungeon.

Unexplored by them, it was the reward room.
