38 – Warrior (5)

We crossed the hallway with Melody in the lead.

As we passed by like that, I finally realized where I was, and it turned out that we were at the inn where we stayed when we first came to the city.

It seemed to be used as some kind of temporary government building.

Among the busy people, there were not many who had any armed force.

Even if there were, they were either heresy inquisitors, agents of the Imperial Intelligence Service who accompanied Melody, or imperial soldiers whose lives were saved by me.

“Melody Heretic Questioner! “Here’s a report!”

“Melody, a local criminal organization is colluding….”

“Securing food is going smoothly. “We will distribute food to the citizens as you originally said.”

They asked Melody for confirmation, help, and advice.

Melody led Isla and I by coming up with appropriate solutions and praising them all, and it was only then that I realized the position of the girl who had been thrust upon me just a moment ago.

The sword of the Protectorate, the right-hand man of the Protectorate and an elite of the Heresy Inquisition Office.

This was close to the melody I knew. A girl who is always relaxed and overcomes difficulties with a smile.

Behind that confident and proud appearance, there was an unforgettable sight.

What on earth was that?

I didn’t know. As she was barely able to hide her strange expression, a finger was poking her side.

It was Isla.

“Come to your senses.”

His tone was somewhat cold.

I can’t even think as I want. When she suppressed her sigh as she tried to get out, she continued walking.

Before we knew it, we were entering a hallway filled with supplies.

It was a place that reminded me of the logistics center I used to go to for a day or two because there was no rice to eat.

There were boxes full of piled up supplies, and in between them, unorganized items were floating around in unstacked chaos.

People were moving around and working hard. Even the atmosphere seemed to remind me of a logistics center hub.

I feel like I’m going to throw up.

“Uh.”

When we got to the section where the loot was being organized, there was even a familiar face.

Gu-myeon was in the middle of organizing the list and instructing where to move things. Mayor Servan made eye contact with me and exclaimed.

“Your honor.”

“Serban Market.”

“What are you doing here? Lord Melody is coming too….”

Anyone could see that he had a tired complexion. The face covered in dark circles was swarthy with fatigue, and looking at that face reminded me of my older sister and made me feel uncomfortable.

When I think of overwork, the first thing that comes to mind is my older sister. Even my face is blurry now.

After suppressing the sigh that was about to come out, I looked at Melody.

“There is a reason for everything. “How are things going?”

“Um… I think it was at least 80%. “I’m attaching it since you seem to have some business to do, but the important items have been sorted.”

This is said by tapping a document. I nodded.

“How did you come here?”

“You’re being dragged in.”

“I came from Servan to provide support. “It’s semi-compulsory, though.”

At first glance, Melody crossed her arms pretending to pout at the words with a smile, but it was only cute.

You probably know it too. I just ignored it.

“Marsi is the only functioning port in the New World. Although it has not been an imperial port until now, it will be beneficial to Servan if it is secured and maintained through this project… It is also beneficial to the empire. “I have no choice but to provide support.”

There was also a strong request from Sir Melody. When Melody tilted her head at his added words, he apologized to her and scanned her forehead.

Even with his messy hair and the monocle hanging loosely from around his neck, he still had the image of being neat.

The people themselves were like that. His explanation reminded me of that.

“If supplies from the Old World flow into the New World, the benefits outweigh the losses. As much as I stayed for the empire in the first place… It would be nice if that happened. “I think this is all my job.”

Still, I want to sleep a little. It was a bit sad to add, but it wasn’t something I needed to worry about.

Mayor Servan was an adult older than me. He was a person who did his bit.

So there was no reason to worry.

“Thank you for your hard work.”

“Hindrance.”

“Thank you.”

He expressed his gratitude with a noble demeanor to the compliments that Isla and I showered one after another.

I wondered if Isla’s way of speaking would allow her to say that to an elder, but I guess it’s just a different culture.

Mayor Serban was quick to read my expression and added this.

“Lord Melody doesn’t praise you very much. At least for me. So… “It feels good to be praised by a beautiful woman.”

Isla puffed out her chest as she looked at me, as if asking if I had seen her or not, and that she was a beauty. I smiled briefly.

“Then can I go about my business now? “I’m looking for something to give as a reward among the loot.”

When Melody couldn’t stand it anymore and intervened, Servan quickly erased his indifferent expression and looked at the documents.

“If possible, could you please guide me to where the magic items are classified?”

“I understand. For a moment.”

Mayor Servan looked sadly at the documents in his hand, then put them down and guided us.

I passed through a place full of items that had been organized and then through a section that was so confusing that it made me dizzy.

“Here we are.”

Where the mayor guided us, there were items neatly organized and labeled.

Just by looking at it, it was an item imbued with magic.

This is an item that even I, who can’t feel magic because I don’t have magical power, think the colors are nice.

I slowly gazed at all those objects.

The objects on display were diverse.

There was a mace in the shape of an anchor, a seemingly threatening object like a large hammer, and a flashy, long long sword.

There was a trident that was rough but had a certain kind of madness in it, and there were several bows that looked like bows.

Meanwhile, there was chain mail neatly laid out.

In such a report, what caught my eye the most was none other than a large crossbow.

It was a famous and powerful item that I even recognized.

It was an object that had the appearance of bones glued together, but if you looked closely, you could see three human arm bones harmoniously attached to the body.

It was a stable structure with no overlapping trajectories, and in addition to its geometric beauty, it gave off a cool atmosphere.

I never thought this would be here.

“Is this something you know? I can’t believe you recognize it….”

Thanks to Servan’s words, I was able to suppress the exclamation that was about to come out without thinking and approach him.

“You have a good eye. “Of all the things here, this is the best.”

It was just as Melody said.

Among these, this is probably the best. It had to be that way.

It was an item that there was no way I wouldn’t recognize it.

It was a weapon inspired by a famous game.

Since it was not shot by measuring a bolt made of carved bone, it had the disadvantage of being less powerful.

However, as long as ‘ammunition’ was supplied consistently, it was a weapon that boasted the best firepower in the entire game.

Calling, Dead Man’s Cross—

“The dead man’s play.”

I came to a sudden halt without realizing it.

“This is an artifact that was created by the necromancers of the three clans. “You really have a good eye.”

That can’t be true.

The smiling melody seemed like a good choice, but I thought something was wrong.

[Playing with the hands of the dead]

[“The second was a nimble and cunning villain.”

-???

This is the second prototype created by the necromancer himself. Based on its excellent durability, it has been modified to allow quick loading and use of a variety of arrows.

Because improvisation is important in the field.]

[Adds 1 point to attack and damage rolls, and can use any ranged bullet.

You can load and fire at twice the speed.

Projectiles fired from this crossbow are considered magical attacks and ignore related resistance.]

But when I reached out and grabbed the crossbow, the window that filled my field of vision proved that I had not heard wrongly.

I even sighed a little inside.

Of course, this wasn’t a bad weapon either.

It is excellent in terms of ammunition supply and such, and the firing speed is much faster, so it can silence the enemy more quickly.

What is this regret? I tried my best to keep my expression of regret and held out the crossbow.

“… Are you giving it to me?”

When I turn my head, Isla appears. Isla slowly flutters her tail from side to side and her eyes shine.

While I was excited to find something I knew and liked, I couldn’t express my disappointment when I found out it wasn’t, so I nodded quietly.

“Is that okay? It’s probably the best, but…. “You could choose your own items.”

“It’s okay.”

From noble mtl dot com

If you think about it, it was definitely not a bad choice.

Considering that although Isla is always doing her job, she does not perform well due to her lack of firepower.

This seemed right.

I don’t know why Isla sees something in me and wants to appoint me as her husband and boss me around.

At least as long as Isla thought of me that way, she and I had no choice but to be colleagues.

And I thought it would be right to take Isla’s equipment and make her stronger, rather than giving her already completed equipment.

Even if I were stronger, it wouldn’t make a big difference, but if Isla becomes stronger, there would be a big difference.

“Ugh… “It’s unclear.”

Actually, Melody seemed dissatisfied.

She crossed her arms, frowned, and blurted out.

“Choose one more.”

“Is that okay?”

It was not something to be said lightly. Naturally, Mayor Servan asked, but she shook her hands and nodded her head.

“They say it’s my authority.”

It was unreasonable. However, it was a thankfully unreasonable decision to kick it out due to moral issues.

The reason was also obvious. The fact that she had chosen something of her own to give to Isla as her gift was puzzling.

I’m sure I’ll regret it and think I shouldn’t have done it out of jealousy, but it was an opportunity I didn’t want to miss.

“I’ll take this.”

I reached out her hand and grabbed one of her items before she could tell me she had changed her mind.

“… “With that?”

“Are you okay? That….”

A bewildered reaction that followed as if it were natural.

It was an expected reaction. In their eyes, this will just look like a piece of sh*t.

But as far as I know, this was something that had good synergy with me.

I packed my belongings with a smile.

It was a great item that I could drink over and over again.
