Episode 17 – Meeting the first customer (1)

It has been about 14 days since leaving Belsarem. After a long, long carriage journey, I was finally at the Glesius Academy.

To be precise, what is unfolding before my eyes right now is ‘Arcanium’, which is called a large city.

Arcanium is a city that began to be built at the same time as the construction of the Glessius Academy, and is said to have been a city where about 5,000 people lived at first.

However, as time passed and the size of Glessius Academy grew, it is now said to have become a large city with about 50,000 people.

This information was given to me by Mr. Markus, the owner of the Bleas Merchant Marine where I repaired the wagon wheel.

I didn’t have any difficulties on my way to Arcanium thanks to the kindness provided by Mr. Marcus.

First of all, I went from an uncomfortable carriage with no cushions to a luxurious carriage with soft and elastic cushions.

It is said that this carriage was originally prepared for nobles.

I was curious as to why a carriage with no people on it was being pulled to the Glesius Academy, so I asked Mr. Marcus.

“Ah, this carriage is due for regular repairs, so I’m taking it to an authorized carriage repair shop in Arcanium. Among those who go to Glesius Academy, there are children of noble families. There is no problem with ordinary carriages, but carriages used by nobles must be inspected and repaired regularly.”

Just as we go to get our cars inspected every year, it seemed like they also inspected carriages in this world.

However, perhaps because it was a world with nobles and commoners, only carriages ridden by nobles were inspected and repaired on a regular basis, not general carriages.

Thanks to that, I was able to ride the nobles’ carriage and come to Arcanium comfortably without any inconvenience.

No one would say anything about me riding in a carriage ridden by nobles.

According to what Serin told us, it was because ability users were treated as semi-nobles.

In other words, I can actually be treated as a noble, and I can even ride in the carriages that nobles ride.

Thanks to that, I got to ride in a comfortable carriage and learn about the Glesius Academy and the city surrounding the Academy, Arcanium.

According to Mr. Marcus, for convenience, people collectively call Arcanium and Glesius Academy the Glesius Academy.

However, when writing official documents or sending goods, Arcanium and Glesius Academy must be mentioned separately.

Because, although Glesius Academy exists inside Arcanium, administratively, the two regions are completely separate.

In a word, Jeollanam-do and Gwangju Metropolitan City. Gyeongsangnam-do, Busan Metropolitan City, and Ulsan Metropolitan City. Gyeongsangbuk-do and Daegu Metropolitan City. Chungcheongnam-do and Daejeon Metropolitan City. It can be understood as the relationship between Gyeonggi-do, Incheon Metropolitan City, and Seoul Special City.

Arcanium and Glesius Academy do not belong to each other; it is only a matter of location, but in reality, the two regions are equal.

Phew, thank you. Social studies teacher. This is how I use the knowledge I learned in class.

Anyway, I was able to gain a lot of knowledge about this world through Marcus.

I felt like if I used this knowledge well, I wouldn’t be treated like I was from another world.

Oh, and by breaking up with Mr. Marcus, I was able to receive a fairly large amount of compensation.

Of course, I did not receive actual money, but rather wrote a check that could be used at the Imperial Central Bank.

The amount is a whopping 200 gold coins.

Based on the information obtained from the conversation with Mr. Marcus, in this world, one silver coin was worth approximately 10,000 won.

Then, one gold coin is equivalent to a hundred silver coins, so it is worth about a million won.

In other words, what Mr. Marcus gave me was a whopping 200 million won.

When I asked him why he gave me such a large amount of money, he said that he thought I was a tycoon who could control the world in the future.

So, since it would be too late to invest at that time, I thought it would be better to invest in advance and paid a lot of compensation.

He said that with this money, he could run a small repair shop in Arcanium and live on for about two years.

Aren’t you saying that you are asking them not to forget you if everything goes well in the future?

I actually asked Mr. Marcus not to forget me.

I parted ways with Mr. Marcus while smiling and headed straight to the city hall.

The road to City Hall was not very difficult. Because Mr. Marcus dropped me off in front of city hall.

‘They said that if you want to make an ID card, you just have to go to the city hall official with this piece of paper.’

The piece of paper I am holding now is not a check given by Mr. Marcus, but rather a letter of recommendation.

In summary, it was a guarantee that this person would not cause harm to society and that his identity was clear.

I thought it would be convenient to have at least an ID card in order to function properly.

If you’re going to mess around, it would be easier to not have an ID card, but since the country I lived in is Korea, which is serious about resident registration, I had no choice.

Surprisingly, the registration process went smoothly.

When I filled out the basic identity registration documents and presented Mr. Marcus with a letter of recommendation, an official of the level of a manager immediately came out and gave me a polite greeting and helped me with the registration process.

Thanks to this, identity registration, which was expected to take two days, was completed in just 30 minutes.

“If you have any complaints in the future, please actively visit City Hall.”

Seeing a civil servant at the level of a manager be so kind to me, it seems that the fact that I am an ability user had a big impact.

This small card-like object in my hand was the ID card that would prove my identity.

They say that the commoners are bronze, the nobles are silver, and the royal family is gold, but what I was holding in my hand was on a silver background with a gold border.

This is given to ability users who have not yet attained noble status, and the manager said that this ID card means that the person can be treated as a noble.

Anyway, now that you have created your ID card, there is only one thing to do.

“Let’s open a store.”

The first step and core process for meeting the heroines of Glessius Academy was ‘starting a repair shop.’

I had a detailed discussion with Mr. Marcus about starting a repair shop.

After a deep conversation with Mr. Marcus, we finally came to the conclusion that the repair shop business could be profitable.

This ‘repair’ ability that I possess is an ability that has never been shown before.

In addition, unlike other abilities that have the risk of killing people or going crazy, my ability had no risk of going out of control.

According to the story told by Mr. Marcus, in the past there was a tendency to knowingly or unknowingly ostracize ability users who were not nobles.

In the end, a major accident occurred in which a city disappeared due to the mental damage caused by one ability user being ostracized by a noble ability user, causing him to run wild.

Just as the saying goes that all safety regulations are written in blood, it is said that after the accident, regulations and social awareness emerged that users of abilities should be treated like nobles, regardless of their origins.

Instead of being treated like nobles, ability users were required to register their identity and be managed by the country.

Because in order to treat someone like a noble, you had to know who that person was.

The ID card I received was an item that distinguished between ability users and ordinary people.

Through this, the ability users were managed and at the same time, ability users at risk of runaway were monitored.

However, Mr. Marcus said that since my ability was not specialized for combat and was only about fixing things, the country would probably only observe carefully and not conduct any special surveillance.

I don’t know if it’s because he’s a merchant, or if he knows a lot because he’s the owner of a merchant, but Mr. Marcus was a person who really didn’t know anything.

To return to the story about the repair shop, he was confident that if I opened a repair shop, quite a lot of people would visit the shop.

Because the abilities I had were in an area that no one could imitate.

If there is anything similar to the repair ability I have, it is said that there is a magic called ‘time retrograde’ that high-ranking wizards can use.

However, just one use of time reversal requires a large amount of magical power and computing power, to the extent that even an archmage would be bedridden for three days.

But my ability was only to hit it three times with a hammer.

You don’t have to use so much force that a person dies, and you don’t have to have a problem with an object.

“It is said that time reversal magic sometimes turns back time so much that objects disappear completely. In that case, the lost item will never come back.”

So, it means that my ability is more stable than time reversal magic, which is risky and expensive.

So, I asked Mr. Marcus about opening a store that operates secretly in preparation for crowds of people, but he advised me that I should instead conduct business openly.

“If you hide too quietly, problems will arise later when you are in danger. “The ability you have is not the ability to do illegal things, so it would be safer to come out to the sun and receive the protection of public power.”

Honestly, I was skeptical about what he said.

However, because my abilities were unprecedented, I fell for Mr. Marcus’s words that the country would actively protect me only if I came out to the sunny area, so I gave up working in the shade and opened a store in the sunny area.

Marcus helped us with everything from deciding on a site for the store, purchasing a building, and doing the interior design.

Thanks to you, I was able to save most of the costs and start operating the repair shop faster than expected.

And on the long-awaited first day of business, someone I had never expected visited my store as a customer.

“Hey, could you possibly repair this item too?”

Brown hair and blue eyes. A pocket of tolerance that seems ready to burst and a gentle appearance.

Exactly, ‘Mina’, the heroine I loved the most in Erasto Chronicle, opened the store door and came in.
