11 – Admission-11

*Sigh…*

Returning to her room, Katarin slowly recalled what the audacious man had said.

Not the rude and disgusting things he said in front of the princess, but the words he had said earlier.

An unhappy Claire is a creature of no value to me.

From noble mtl dot com

That was quite an interesting thing to say.

“Do you think that girl could be used for something? Well, you could send her as a gift to a nobleman with such taste…”

Meeting Wade in person, he was not as foolish as she thought.

He’s like me. Not giving everything to stupid sentiments, he’s a human prepared to dominate over others, at least.

There are many people like her, but there are few dark wizards like her. Just by her presence, I can avoid unnecessary doubts.

And he found the value she couldn’t find.

Bad reputation is important. It was a very crucial task to demonstrate how strong and cruel you are in a fight with a dark wizard.

But the world doesn’t just contain dark wizards. You may need to pretend to be a good dark magician sometimes to avoid regulation and oppression, depending on the situation.

If you have a convenient dark wizard like Claire, you can change your attitude according to the situation.

It was an interesting utilization. Someone like Katarin did not feel the need to use such methods.

A smiling face, a beautiful appearance. If it were only an asset that could be used as a negotiation card for her, that would be one thing, but it couldn’t be a persuasion for lowering their guard.

The grace of the Ernst family, a highly powerful dark wizard, can’t mingle with others just for having one gentle person by her side.

After all, she was from the Ernst family. Katarin’s walk has always been confident and natural, and there was no one to stop her, at least within the Changing Hundred territories.

Nevertheless, as a member of the academy, she too could not act freely. Perhaps, she could effectively employ his approaches.

“Hmm…”

Her heart was full of satisfaction at having found a kindred spirit.

Nobody moved with the same thought process as her– justice, loyalty, manners, humanity. These terribly inefficient and flawed notions dominated the minds of ordinary humans.

Yet, he spoke nonchalantly about leveraging Claire, as if he could predict what was going on in Katerine’s mind.

It was astonishing. It was amusing. It was difficult to find someone who could so confidently and decidedly reveal their intentions in front of her, as if they weren’t committing a sin.

And so, he piqued Katerine’s curiosity.

“It would have been nicer if you didn’t betray me.”

The wise man chose the princess over Katerine.

The moment she met his confident gaze, Katerine could discern his intentions.

“I wonder if you wanted to position yourself like Claire.”

He did not want to give up. He wanted to share the title of a victim suffering under Katerine’s tyranny, along with his infamous reputation as a dark magician.

If that was all, Katerine would have scoffed.

Appearing weak to a dark magician is a crime. The moment the perception of being pitiful humans is formed, that dark magician becomes fearless.

Yet, he took it one step further.

“Did you think you would get away with this?”

She had been furious.

There were countless dark magicians who wanted to receive her blessings, to get a piece of her magic or her spells.

They should have received Katerine’s recognition and belonged to the prestigious Erst family. They should have humbly received it, expressing their gratitude and thanks.

He did not do this. He was not satisfied with just that.

His audacity and impertinence made him an adversary rather than a victim of Katerine.

“Now that things have come to this, I have no choice but to kill you.”

For a while, she thought they had become friends.

Even though she knew her concept of friendship was slightly twisted, she thought there was one more person who could observe the world from the same perspective as hers.

She thought that if he’d knelt to her, he might have made a decent advisor. Though he was the perpetrator, she had to continue with Kellin.

Maybe it was inevitable. A human being with proper ambition would never be satisfied being Katerine’s most trusted subordinate.

“It’s a pity…”

Contradictory emotions made a mess in Katerine’s mind.

She regretted the fact that she had no choice but to kill him. But it was delightful to kill the dark magician who dared to challenge her authority.

She resented Wade for creating a situation where they could only fight. Yet his choice, which threatened her without fear for his benefit, was beautiful and captivating.

The dark magician who did not surrender to her seemed pathetic and pitiful. Yet, she found herself, unexpectedly, harboring some anticipation.

“Ah…”

She thought life in the academy would be boring.

Predictable people would demand predictable things and would certainly bring predictable criticisms and checks.

However, upon admission, she had to admit her predictions were wrong.

“I hope you survive?”

Katerine muttered a spell that even she, who was making plans, thought was impossible.

There was no way he could survive.

“Not much, just enough to beg for his life.”

With her eyes closed, Katerine imagined Wade losing his composure and begging for his life pathetically.

It was an astonishingly sweet and awaited moment.

“Buahahahahaha! Seriously, you are the best today! I was the most envious in the world! You got to see her behave that way up close!”

A small magician with purple hair patted the back of the princess.

It was an appalling level of rudeness, but the princess did not consider it as such.

“I was just lucky. No…there was a resilient dark magician.”

“Whatever the reason, you beat that Katarin!”

“You’re right.”

Yurisia nodded slowly.

“She had neither manners nor justice. Imagining someone who could utter such words in front of Katarin… in fact, I hadn’t even imagined it.”

Yurisia recalled the past.

Those who had chosen black magic simply to become stronger were also in the empire.

There were those who had sworn multiple times in front of her that their loyalty to the empire did not change.

And those people pointed their swords at the empire the moment a stronger dark magician, a dark magician from the Erst family, appeared on the battlefield.

However, he did not choose that. He could have done it.

A black magician submitting to another was not inevitable.

“I felt a little healed.”

The magician smiled slyly, seeing the weary appearance of the princess.

“Come to think of it…we haven’t decided how to pick our team members.”

“Do you mean…for the joint classes?”

“Of course.”

“Come to think of it… The conditions were a bit tricky.”

“Construct the strongest team possible because the experiment will be dangerous and not suitable for the student level.”

“Each team would need at least one member from each class.”

The seemingly unrelated rules had a clear instructor’s intent.

They were openly implying the intent to create a team with Catherine.

“It’s foolish. It’s not even a decade since Ernst von Behr crossed the Imperial Territory. I comforted those wounded that day with my own hands.”

The princess remembered when she was still a girl.

People who are dying from their bodies rotting, soldiers suffering from nightmares of comrades. They all remained vivid in her memory.

“…you said you didn’t care?”

“I’ve never not cared. I just thought it’s meaningless to choose one black magician because no matter who I choose…”

There would be no black magician untouched by Katarin left in this academy.

Even if there was, it was pointless. As soon as the princess pulls in that pure black magician, Katarin’s irresistible magic would overwhelm him.

All the princess’s information would go through her, and it was certain that poor black magician would become a sacrificial lamb of the conspiracy.

She just thought it would be better to have Katarin herself by her side.

“But…if it’s him.”

The princess thought of Wade.

A black magician who was not afraid to confront Katarin, so strange that she couldn’t understand.

“The instructors told me to create the strongest team possible. And…according to such criteria… untrustworthy team members mustn’t be included.”

“Well, it makes sense. He doesn’t look that impressive though…”

“It doesn’t matter. I will make it happen.”

The princess exuded a confident smile.
