1 – Tutorial (Part 1)

“Ugh….”

I awoke, feeling a faint headache.

“Ugh… I didn’t even drink last night, so why… huh?”

The reason for my confusion, as I thought to myself, was that the place I had woken up in was not my own home.

And it wasn’t just that. I couldn’t fathom why I was with other people.

“What is this…? What’s going on?”

I was at a loss for words.

I vividly remembered coming home after finishing work yesterday, having dinner with my sister, but now I found myself in a strange place with unfamiliar faces all around. What in the world was happening?

It seemed that everyone else was equally bewildered, judging by the looks of confusion and restlessness on their faces.

“…What in the world is happening? Have we been kidnapped? What’s going on… for heaven’s sake.”

The sense that something was terribly wrong was deeply rooted in the fact that this place was exceptionally peculiar.

Starting from the plaza, everything was an eerie, pristine white— the walls, the floor, and the ceiling.

My hands and legs were trembling, and my mind couldn’t grasp the situation.

“It’s not just me… everyone seems terrified… does anyone understand what’s going on?”

While lost in thought, the voices of other people conversing with each other started to be heard.

“Um, where is this? Do you know anyone here? What on earth is this?”

“I don’t know either… What is…?”

As sweat began to trickle down their hands due to the incomprehensible situation, a sound resonated in the square.

[ Welcome everyone who has come from Earth. Welcome to the tutorial of Eras. ]

“What?! What crazy nonsense is this! Earth? Is this a hidden camera?”

“How can they suddenly mention a tutorial after kidnapping people? What on earth is this?! And saying that we came from Earth… What the…!”

They could understand what the people shouting were saying. Of course, it was natural to feel something strange as the person addressing us mentioned that we came from Earth.

“Damn it… Are you saying this isn’t Earth?”

“Haha… You all have made a mistake. I am Congressman Ha Seung-won! Where is the person in charge of all this?!”

[ I am not an entity here to resolve your curiosity. Naturally, I understand if you feel bewildered or fearful in this sudden situation, but feeling bewildered or fearful here will not help your survival. ]

The faces of the people started to turn pale in real-time when the word “survival” was mentioned.

Not all, but most people realized that this situation was no joke.

“Crazy… Damn it, damn it! What kind of situation is this? Eras? Tutorial?”

Even though they knew in their heads that they needed to think calmly in the current situation, their thoughts simply couldn’t be controlled.

“Damn it, they said it was about survival. Clearly, it’s not helpful for survival…. Is it a threat to our lives?”

The shouts of men, the cries of women, and the panic of the people created chaos.

“What the hell are they saying… Please send me home! Please… Sob… Please send me back…!”

“Damn it, stop joking around! Where is the person in charge?! What are you all doing without even showing your faces! Get out here and speak up now!”

[The tutorial will begin soon. If you pass, you will qualify to live in Eras. Failure means death. Now, I will briefly explain the tutorial.]

“Damn it…. Failure means death? I have to listen attentively.”

Normally, he wasn’t the type to curse so much, but the situation forced him to curse.

He deliberately ignored the pounding of his heart and focused his ears. If failing meant death, then he decided to first listen to the explanation.

[Where you are, you will see one large door and four small doors. The four doors contain the necessary food and weapons for you. There is enough weapons for each of you to take at least one, and there is plenty of food and water. Please take what you need.]

“Weapons? Okay, I understand the food, but weapons?”

[Soon, monsters that were not present on Earth will enter through the large door where you are. You can choose to fight or run away. The choice is yours. Please choose carefully.]

“Damn it, it’s a structure where we can’t escape, how can they tell us to run away…! There’s only that big door, whether it’s an entrance or an exit…! And monsters?”

[In this place, the way you think on Earth will lead to death. And you are special. Each of you has unique characteristics. If you imagine a status window in your mind or shout out ‘status window’, you will see your status window.]

Someone murmured.

“S-Status window!”

“Ugh! What is this?”

“Status window!”

People suddenly startled, sitting down in surprise, their gaze directed towards the empty air.

‘Status window.’

[Attributes]

Stamina – 08 Luck – 12

Magic – 00 Resistance – 08

“Ha….”

The status window that appeared before my eyes was reminiscent of a game. But there was a difference; games were just games, while this was reality…

While I was organizing my thoughts, that polite voice rang out again.

“Based on how you choose to grow through the status window, your survival rate will vary. Occupations and unique characteristics are divided into common, rare, hero, legend, and myth grades. As the grade increases, the growth and limit of ability points also increase. Titles are awarded based on your activities on the continent. Unique characteristics are individual and are created based on your traits and individuality.”

“……”

Although I continued to hear the words, I couldn’t concentrate because I was receiving too much information in a short period of time.

“If you make continuous efforts, you can increase your ability points. Of course, the limit of ability points varies for each individual. Except for magic power and luck, the average ability point for the rest is 10, based on adult males on Earth.”

“Damn it… My life may have been somewhat distant from physical exercise, but seriously, I can’t even reach the average without agility?”

I could check my status window later. For now, it would be a good idea to check the status windows of other people. So, I looked at the status windows of a few people, starting with the gentleman next to me and what seemed to be siblings.

It seems that not everyone has unique traits.

Although her body seems a bit weak, I didn’t expect that I would have lower abilities than a female student.

“What? Magic Power 3? Can one have magic power right from the start? And what is this Guidance of the Lost God?”

I’m not exactly sure what role Magic Power plays as an ability, but based on the rough confirmation of my abilities, the uncle’s, and the female student’s, I mistakenly believed that everyone’s Magic Power starts at 0.

“Damn, and why is Luck like this? 20?”

[Now that I’ve provided you with some basic explanations, I’ll stop here with the guidance. The purpose of the tutorial is survival and strategy. I hope all of you will pass through the tutorial.]

Kururung!

The moment the sound of the door opening reached their ears, a thought struck them: this wasn’t the time to just stand around.

“Crazy! We need weapons! We have to get weapons fast!”

As soon as the instructions concluded, the massive door began to open. Just as they had mentioned earlier, monsters would emerge from that enormous door, so they needed to gather weapons and supplies as quickly as possible.

And, as if on cue, others seemed to have similar thoughts. People started flocking into the room where provisions and weapons were stored.

“Move aside! I chose this!”

“Don’t push me! Don’t take all the water!”

The place was crowded, and there was chaos. First, they hastily grabbed bags and secured food and water.

Next, they needed to gather weapons, and there were various types available.

“A sword… I have no idea how to use a sword. A spear seems okay, but it’s hard to use with a shield…”

Without wasting time, they rushed over and grabbed a mace and a small, lightweight shield.

The mace should be as simple as swinging it, and even though they hadn’t used a shield before, having a means of defense seemed better than having nothing.

The weapons included swords, spears, bows, maces, shields, daggers, axes, and more. Most people were holding swords, spears, or maces, and occasionally, someone like them had also picked up a shield.

The bow was a difficult weapon to handle, and as a result, there were very few skilled marksmen. After all, once the supply of arrows ran out, the bow became useless.

Outside, the sounds of monsters were gradually becoming audible. The unfamiliar, eerie sounds of these creatures instilled fear in everyone, including me.

Since there was only one exit leading outside through a massive door, there was nowhere to run to escape the approaching monsters.

“Damn it! What the hell is this? Dragging us to a place like this all of a sudden and subjecting us to this insanity…!”

“Save me… please… God, please… Mom…!”

“Stay calm, everyone! First, arm yourselves. It can’t be that difficult as they said it was a tutorial! Stay composed, everyone!”

The square resounded with voices of panic, anger, and those trying to calm others down. Even the person shouting for composure seemed unable to maintain their own calm due to fear.

“Dammit…!”

As my hand holding the bludgeon trembled due to fear, a distinct sound reached my ears.

“Keeeeek!”

The large door swung open, and red humanoid-shaped monsters, reminiscent of adult males, began to enter the building.

“Uwaaah! What the hell is this? Aaargh!”

“Save me, save me!”

“Keeeeek!”

Faced with these unfamiliar creatures, no one could resist properly due to the overwhelming fear, and they were falling prey to the monsters. I, too, found my body frozen in terror upon seeing these creatures for the first time.

“This is… This is…”

The monsters were killing people and, right there, they were tearing out a person’s entrails with their fingernails and devouring them.

“R-run…! Run!”

In the end, most people, without even getting a chance to fight back, started fleeing through the door where the monsters had entered.

If the monsters had immediately overwhelmed the people, everyone would have perished, but because they were busy killing and feasting on the corpses, a few managed to escape through the gap.

“I-I need to move!”

I was a fool for thinking this might be manageable since it was called a tutorial.

At that moment, I too urgently attempted to escape through the opening.

Snap!

“Huh?”

Something had grabbed my leg.

“P-please… spare me! Please don’t leave me…! My… my leg, my leg…! *Cough* Spare me! Take me with you, please…!”

A woman who seemed to have had her leg torn apart was clutching onto my fleeing leg.

“Darn it… I need to be realistic. She’s practically a dead woman already… There’s food and weapons here, but no medical supplies. I have to leave her.”

Naturally, I had to abandon her. It was realistically impossible for me to take care of her in a situation where even taking care of myself was a challenge.

Even if her legs were intact, or even if her injured arm was the only problem, they could have run together. But for someone whose legs had been torn apart, there was no way to survive in this situation.

“I’m sorry! I’m sorry!”

She shook off the woman’s arm and started running.

It was hell all around. Blood filled the air, along with the screams of people.

“No…! Don’t leave me behind… Sniff… Ahh…!!”

She ran frantically and found herself outside, in the forest. Inside the building, she could hear the sounds of the remaining people becoming the monsters’ meal.

However, there was another problem. It was currently nighttime, not daytime.
