32 – sin(1)

After the meeting with the archbishop, I got on a carriage heading north.

In the rattling carriage, during the little time remaining until I reached my destination, I leaned against the window and thought for a moment about the plot of the original story.

***

Since most of the events in the original story took place in Korea, the gloomy internal circumstances of the Seongguk were only mentioned once or twice by the saintess.

And this atmosphere was maintained throughout the original work, but when the latest story, the war against the demons, ended and a new episode began, the axis of the story rapidly shifted to the kingdom.

As humans continue to fall beyond the limits, the gods cannot stand it any longer, become enraged, and eventually take all the holy power from humans – this is a guess within the story – and a situation arises in which not only the holy power of the priests but also the light of the holy sword is extinguished. That was the end of the last episode I saw.

However, unlike other incidents that seemed like they could be handled somehow with knowledge of the original work, I couldn’t come up with a clever solution for this case.

Seongguk’s story was the most recent episode, but I died right as I was just starting to read that part, and this is a part that no one can physically do anything about.

The problem is that it’s not a situation where you can just leave it alone.

If you don’t have holy power, you can’t purify demonic energy, and as time goes by, it becomes a huge problem to deal with the cults and devil worshipers that become more powerful all over the place, and the demons they descend.

Although a truce was signed with the Demon King, a considerable number of Demons still caused trouble, and it was even mentioned in the last episode that uneasy movements toward the Empire were observed even in the western kingdoms.

Normally, I wouldn’t have been able to recall such detailed information, but after learning the old book of intelligence amplification in the Demon World, my memory improved slightly, and I was able to benefit from it.

In any case, a total impasse would unfold in the future, and for me, who wanted a peaceful life, this was an obstacle that had to be resolved somehow.

It was a fortunate fact that Seongguk’s work had little to do with the main character’s party throughout the original story.

This means that there is still quite a bit of room left for me to intervene.

It’s been a long time since I haven’t seen the original work anyway, so there are parts that I have to proceed at my own discretion to some extent, and if that’s the case, I decided to prevent the corruption of the Holy Kingdom to some extent so that the gods can’t reap their holy power in the first place. It was a conclusion.

And the tool I have chosen for that intervention is Archbishop Timothy of Westford.

As the Archbishop was a subject of both the Holy Kingdom and the Empire, he was occasionally mentioned in the original work, and whenever his name appeared, the portrayal of his upright and good character was always emphasized.

And since there was no separate contact with the main characters of the original work, he could be said to be the best hand to intervene in the kingdom I can think of.

I was worried for a while, wondering what to do if there was a side that was not mentioned in the original work that was different from the outside and inside, but after seeing him in person, I concluded that fortunately he was not that kind of person.

And, in fact, even if he were a wicked man, there would be no way. My head couldn’t think of any other way, so I had no choice but to give up cleanly then…

Anyway, the task of recruiting the archbishop using the holy relic as bait went very smoothly, and in the end it was a success.

Of the three holy relics, I stored the Staff of Purity in a warehouse at home for future use, but the other two are of little use to me, so I didn’t suffer much loss.

As a bonus, I have established a friendship with the archbishop, so I have also created a space for myself to intervene directly through him if the circumstances arise.

To conclude, in many ways, this visit to Westford can be said to have been a success in its own way.

“Princess, we have arrived. This is Drachton.”

When I heard the coachman knock on the door, I awoke from my deep thoughts.

When you open the window and look outside, you can see the scenery of a very prosperous castle full of splendid buildings.

This is Drachton, my final stop before returning to the academy.

***

Drachton was an area located in the middle of Westford and the Academy, and it was unusual that it was operated with a political system called a free city, which was different from the common domains of this era ruled by ordinary lords.

And because of its nature, commerce and industry were developed, and it was also a place firmly established as a trade route connecting the western kingdoms and empires, so of course, the reason I came here was also to make money.

After asking passers-by, I arrived at a splendid multi-story building located in the most central part of the castle.

As I passed through the front door and entered the inside of the building, a red-haired woman wearing a neat dress looked at me and approached me.

“Welcome to the Baldwin & Malone Trade and Investment Alliance. I’m Irene and I’m helping guide you. What is the purpose of your visit?”

“I visited for dividend investing. Excuse me, can I see the handbook of the merchants belonging to this guild?”

“ah! Nice to meet you, Investor. We will guide you to the inner room. Now, come this way.”

When I revealed that I was visiting for investment purposes, the employee’s face suddenly changed to a wide smile.

I followed her guide and went into the living room.

A few moments after I sat down, the employee came back with a huge pile of documents. It seemed that he had brought not only the handbook I requested, but also documents such as business plans and financial statements of various stores.

“Then I will wait outside. If you need help, just ring the bell next to it. then… ”

The clerk went out of the drawing room, and I began to rummage through the piles for the handbook.

I’m sorry for the employee who brought the documents with difficulty, but I don’t know how to read business plans and financial statements.

My father and Hudson were still in charge of family affairs, and I hadn’t studied anything related to that.

I have a bit of knowledge from my previous life, so I can read simple documents, but it is difficult for me to do anything serious.

The reason I came here was not to make a professional investment, but to check the knowledge of the game I knew.

I took out the handbook, skipped product introductions, and began to focus on the index section where the names of stores were organized.

“H… H… Oh, Horace. found. there really was There E… Esmond… here it is Finally V… Balenos? Not this. Ah, Valentine. done. I found them all!”

When I confirmed that the names of the merchants I had seen in the game were intact, cheers leaked out. Having found these three, there is nothing else to look at. I rang the bell next to the desk and called the staff who had gone outside earlier.

“Did you find it?”

“I have decided where to invest. 100 gold to Horace. 100 gold for Esmond, and for Valentine… Invest 300 gold. Could you please bring me the contract?”

“Wait, wait… Excuse me, did you check all the documents?”

It was only after seeing the employee’s confused expression that I realized that something had gone wrong.

Since you are spending your own money, you will check it carefully for several hours, so it will be a normal case that it takes a long time.

I was excited to see that things I knew were still there…

The staff who saw my stern expression made an expression as if they knew that.

“Whoa… It looks like you’re a young boy who doesn’t know much about this, but investing is no joke. If you make a mistake, it is not uncommon for dividends to be paid and not even a penny of the principal to be returned. So please review the documents carefully.”

“I checked everything to be sure. It was a decision made after careful deliberation, so I hope it goes ahead as it is.”

It was already spilled water, and it’s honestly a waste to spend hours reviewing meaningless documents.

When I insisted, an employee named Irene shook her head and sighed.

“ha… Then, in addition to the investment contract, you will need to fill out one more document.”

“What document are you talking about?”

“A pledge.”

“pledge?”

“yes. “This is a pledge that, even if the investment fails and we are unable to recover the principal, we will not legally demand any liability or compensation for damages.”

“What else can I say? We will write it together. Hurry up and bring me the investment contract.”

When I said that I would gladly write the pledge, the staff seemed to have given up further persuasion. Irene soon brought several documents, and I properly checked the contents and stamped it right away.

“There seem to be a lot of customers who tell the truth that their investment has failed, right?”

I asked a question to the employee sitting across from me. She was once again examining the stamped papers meticulously, and as soon as I asked a question, she put on a look of boredom.

This is the school uniform version of the saintess.
