Chapter 12. New Life (6)

“Is that a human voice?”

I deliberately spoke to the two women. When your nerves become sensitive, you become sensitive to insignificant sounds and your perception becomes distorted.

So, this sound may not be a person but something else.

– Help me! Help me! Help me!

It seems like the right person.

“I think that’s right.”

Camilla, fully awake, confirmed. Cassandra nodded her head as well. The warning on the whiteboard came to mind.

No matter what you hear in the field, never go alone.

“What are you going to do?”

Cassandra asks as if she is completely frightened.

“Of course I have to go.”

I answered.

“What are you talking about? I have to hold my breath here and wait until morning. “Are you going to know what that is?”

Camilla refuted immediately.

“Well, I’m asking you to help me. “Maybe you’re in trouble?”

Cassandra wiggles her fingers. Camilla quickly shook her head.

“Don’t trust anyone but us. People in off-reserve areas are not easy people. Lets think. It’s been a while since the blockade of non-protected areas was lifted.

People who are weak in body or mind have already become zombies a long time ago. “The people who are still alive today are probably quite self-poisoned, right?”

“But John asked to go.”

Camilla responded to Cassandra’s rebuttal in a slightly shaken voice.

“Well, I guess it’s not the reason you think?”

For some reason, both Camilla and Cassandra seem to be staring at me. What are you looking at me for?

“The first reason is, I’m sleepy. I want to check it out quickly and go back to sleep. The second reason is, I don’t know what that is, but if it’s dangerous, it’s better to run away quickly.”

Cassandra seemed a little strange and seemed to be gone,

“I knew that would happen.”

Camilla quickly agreed and already put on her tactical vest and bulletproof helmet. Cassandra just blinked, as if she was dumbfounded.

“You are here. Me and Camilla went… “

– Help me!

“Hey!”

Cassandra let out a stifled moan and grabbed my arm, stroking her.

“I hate poetry. No. Shall we go together. We’ll go together! “Mumumumu, I’m scared!”

Long black hair, green eyes, and large breasts that even the darkness cannot hide. Cassandra was more like a ghost.

“Ah, okay. Okay, let go of this!”

In the end, all three of us wore our equipment. Wear it in the car to prevent unnecessary noise from leaking out of the garage.

I was checking my pouch and found my cell phone.

I thought about leaving it in the car, but I decided to take it with me since it can be used as a makeshift flash bomb or decoy in an emergency.

– Help me!

The furniture blocking the door was quietly pushed away. Thanks to the doorknob being smashed in advance, there was no noise.

The moon was bright. Dead corn stalks up to my chest shake helplessly. A rustling, rustling sound is heard. The smell of rotten grain that seemed to come from the silo was still there.

– Help me! Help me! Help me!

“It’s a little strange.”

Cassandra whispered. I also nodded at her. For some reason, I felt a sense of discomfort.

The sound was distorted inside the garage, so I thought that could be the case, but when I heard it vividly, there was something… The feeling of someone imitating you.

“Maybe… “

“Perhaps?”

“Couldn’t the ears be ghosts?”

Yes. There’s no law saying doctors can’t believe in ghosts. There are zombies, but I wonder if there are any ghosts.

“Hey, Camilla.”

Camilla was continuously stroking her face with her palm. Her nervous expression was evident.

“Why are you like this? “What do you have?”

“… No. “It reminds me of a story I heard when I was young.”

“What?”

“A monster with a human voice. “She hides in a wheat or corn field, opens her mouth wide, and when she snatches her prey, she sucks it and throws it away.”

– Help me!

“Hey Iik.” “Hmph!”

Cassandra, even if that’s the case, Camilla, why are you doing this again?

“I can’t do that. Camilla, Cassandra. “Can you please take a seat behind the silo?”

Camilla grabbed her arm before Cassandra did.

“Oh, what are you trying to do?”

“Do what ghosts hate the most.”

“What?”

Cassandra trembled as if she had been completely frightened. She assures me that even ghosts will be scared and run away if they see Cassandra now. I took out my cell phone from the pouch.

“Imitation.”

I turned on the recorder. Not long after, I heard that strange voice.

– Help me!

“Okay. Go quickly and quietly. “I’m going to play it.”

Camilla quickly moved behind her in her silo, almost dragging Cassandra. I chose to repeat the recording file and played only the audio section.

– Help me! Help me! Help me!

It was so small that I turned the volume to maximum and put it in the pouch.

– Help me! Help me! Help me!

“Crrr.”

The corn field is shaking. It’s a bit different from now, where we move around as the wind blows. With a rustle, part of the dead stem suddenly disappears.

Suddenly. Suddenly. At first glance, about five stems were gone. Something is coming this way, trampling on dead corn stalks. At least not one. I held the submachine gun firmly in place.

– Help me! Help me! Help me! Help me!

– Goddess, please help me!

Click, something jumped out of the corn field without a sound. It’s dark, about as tall as my knees, and it’s fast. No need to think twice. The submachine gun was fired quickly.

“Kang! “Kang!”

Even though a bullet pierced its back, it did not fall. I took a step back and took a stance, bleeding.

Wild dog?

No. No. The ears are short and round and stick out. The face looks a bit gaunt, but the snout is long. The nose is also a bit big.

It’s a wolf.

Zombie Wolf.

Wow –

Tatang.

I shot him exactly in the head and knocked him down. If your opponent is not a human zombie or a wolf, you are at a disadvantage here.

I took a step back, being wary of all directions. Since the body is thrown away, all you have to do is wait for others to eat it.

Moment.

The black shadow jumped out with a pop. Phut! The sound of a gunshot hitting my ears from behind. It is the sound of an R-15 rifle firing.

“John! Under!”

Two wolves are running.

Calmly take three shots at the guy on the left and two shots at the guy on the right. Unable to overcome the rushing reaction, he falls. He jumps back, takes his stance again, and shoots, aiming for the eyes.

Puck, a bullet exits the back of the wolf’s head.

– Goddess! Goddess! Help me! Help me!

Dead corn stalks lie down faster. Without thinking twice, I ran into the garage.

I let Camilla and Cassandra in first and blocked the door. As soon as I stop it, bang! A loud scratching sound is heard.

“Let’s get started! “Loosen the bolt!”

Thanks to the stones placed on the floor, it will not suddenly open. Camilla got into the truck.

“Cassandra, get behind the wheel of the pickup truck!”

Although shaking, Cassandra jumped into the driver’s seat. I followed her side and sat in the passenger seat. She took out her phone and turned off the repetitive voice. Cassandra started her engine.

“I’m opening the door!”

Camilla screamed out the window. The 2.5-Ton truck moved smoothly and pushed open the tightly closed garage door.

“Okay! “Kang!”

The pack of wolves gathered outside the door screamed and retreated. Camilla crashed her truck.

As the truck, which was overwhelmingly large compared to the beast, charged at it with its high beams turned on, the zombie wolves also retreated, perhaps losing their momentum.

Wow! The truck drove along the road. Cassandra followed suit. The wolves came to their senses and joined us.

“Kyeah! “Kyaarung!”

An ominous crackling sound. They are biting the bulletproof plate. Are you really planning on biting the tires?

Roll down the window and fire the pistol at random. More people, stimulated by the flames and noise, rush forward. Even though one or two people clearly got hit and fell down bleeding.

“Cassandra. Are not you hungry?”

“What? “What are you talking about all of a sudden?”

“Aren’t you hungry?”

“I’m hungry, wow!”

Something red fluttered outside the window and landed on the truck wiper.

– Help me! Help me! Goddess help me!

Red and yellow feathers that are clearly visible even in the dark. It’s a parrot. A parrot as long as my forearm, with all the hair on half of its body plucked out and covered in tattered flesh.

– Help me! Help me! Goddess help me!

“Kiyayayak!”

Cassandra frantically turned on the wipers. The parrot clucks and holds onto the wiper to help you! Help me! Goddess! I shouted.

“Swarm! Group! Please take this away from me! Please!”

“Step further!”

Cassandra rushed forward, overtaking her truck. She moved the wipers faster and even sprayed her washer fluid. Doo-doo-duk! Doo-doo-duk! A zombie parrot taps on the windshield like a woodpecker.

– Help me! Goddess! Help me! Goddess!

“Please slow down a little.”

Cassandra slowed down her speed. After confirming that the zombie wolves were completely behind, I opened the door. She placed her pistol in the gap and fired. One shot. Two feet. She was hit three times.

– Goddess.

After she said those words, the parrot flew next to the car.

* * * * *

Cassandra didn’t stop her car. She did the same with Camilla.

Although we were clearly behind, the wolves were persistently following behind us. Not only the wolves, but also the human zombies sitting on the road saw us and came running.

It’s strange.

The pattern is a bit different.

It may be a city, but in a human-unprotected area, the zombies did not leave the fallen person alone. Even if there was a stronger enemy, it was eager to bite. Satisfying my hunger comes first.

But those here are not like that. It’s about half and half. Those that can’t overcome their hunger bite, and those that don’t are coming towards us.

Suddenly, what happened at Safe House comes to mind. Cassandra and Camilla had a small argument. When I stabbed a zombie in the stomach, other zombies came running out from the surrounding bushes.

Fortunately, they moved as we knew before. They stopped caring about me and ripped off my colleagues.

But Camilla said she came out ‘by seeing me’, and Cassandra said she came out by ‘listening to signals’ from her.

For the former, there is not much difference from before. But what if it’s the latter?

It is a strategy. Zombies may also devise strategies to survive. But how? How could that be? My mind becomes complicated.

* * * * *

Dawn is coming.

The number of zombies chasing us did not increase or decrease significantly.

Some people are leaving, but there are also many new ones joining. At least one thing seems clear: there were no humans around here. Or maybe they passed by quickly like we did.

I wonder if the terrain was a bit curved. Because it is completely flat, you can clearly see the guys following you from quite a distance. They’re probably watching us too.

I think I need to stop it at least once.

The easiest method to think of is shooting.

The truck was loaded with quite a lot of ammunition. Rifles, submachine guns, and pistols are also available.

But you can’t waste ammo. Instead of shooting at random, you should consider what you can achieve with each bullet.

It is not to ensure the safety of your residence, nor to overcome the threats you face. You can’t waste bullets and time just to shake off a fruitless pursuit.

In the midst of my worries, something caught my eye.

It’s a bridge.

It’s not a very wide bridge. It is wide enough for two cars to pass and is approximately 30m long.

Abandoned vehicles were visible on the other side of the river. All the windows were broken and looked worn, but at least the tires looked fine.

“Cassandra, let’s go to the bridge!”

She waved her hand out the window, sending a hand signal to Camilla. She turned her high beam lights on and off to indicate that Camila would know.
