209 The Roots of Sanctuary

"That involves a bit of history of the Saviors. The Saviors sect was founded by three nine-tailed foxes. Lady Freya, Lord B'haru, and Lord Tyrus. The three were the first to gain the radiant abilities by completing the Death King's trial in the Realm between Life and Death. The lady and the two lords were close because they all got their powers shortly one after the other. The Family thought it was strange and the three journeyed to the God King when he stayed in the East of the main village.

"They brought up their new profound radiant gifts and the God King instructed them to use it well. 'Further my cause by bringing light to the Realm.' And so, the lady and the lords did so. They traveled across the Realm, eventually hearing of more who were like them. They returned to find a bigger group of the sect and decided to call themselves Saviors. The Saviors' sole mission was to 'Bring the Light of the God King to the Realms.' They traversed Realms and made sure the light of the God King was brought to the other Realms.

"They eventually were instructed to build a site to cure the cursed Death Forest. It was the first strangest thing they've encountered. The sect's goals eventually moved onto clearing cursed blights such as this land. The land couldn't be cleansed so they had to continuously cleanse it. I've seen the blight creeping ever closer across the lands and wish I could purify it more." Krystopher sighed.

"Lady Freya, Lords B'haru, and Tyrus followed the God King's orders, always. Even in the next journey of the sect's life, they were always the ones to lead the sect to the next phase of its life. We dedicated our life to the God King because we wished to. We did what we could because we wanted to. Eventually, I was called to the God King, alone, and given the task to stay behind in my ascended state, so I could guide you two.Though I'm still unsure of what I need to do, I think the answers lie at the roots of the Sanctuary." Krystofer looked at the sigil below them.

"The roots of Sanctuary?" Lee Seng repeated. Krystofer nodded.

"Sanctuary is the place where Saviors come with questions. The roots will tell you what you need to know. They will answer most of your questions and oftentimes leave you with more."

"So how do we do this, then?"

"Take your Soul orb and place it on the altar there." Krystofer pointed at a wooden altar with gold metal and orange stone accents. "Sanctuary will show you the way. I will leave the rest to you." Krystofer's form began to flicker. He notices it and raises his hand and smiles. "My time is ending here. Remember to follow the roots all the way to the end."

"Where will you go now?" Keng asked.

"To wherever the rest of the sect went. I'm sorry that you two will have to carry our name…" Krystofer's voice began to fade. "Don't try to live up to what we've done. Don't imitate it. Just live through what you think is right. What you think is right in cleansing evil from the world… and make sure to cleanse the blight from this area. Do whatever you want with this…. Place… Goodbye, twin suns…"

Lee Seng and Keng watched as Krystofer dissolved before their eyes. Peace washed over him as his body faded and the Tomb began to rustle. The Tomb seemed like it was mourning for the last Savior.

"What do we do with all of this information?" Keng asked waving the scrolls. The scrolls that sat in Krystofer's lap had landed on the chair and Lee Seng was staring at the scrolls.

"Let's commune with the roots of Sanctuary. We'll figure out the rest when that's over." Lee Seng told Keng. Keng nodded and stood up. He grabbed the scrolls and the two humanoid foxlings cleared the area. Keng kneeled down and sat in the middle of the sigil while Lee Seng moved to the altar. Lee Seng put a claw over his heart and felt the vibrating soul orb begin to pull out of his chest.

The pain flared and the vibrating grew louder with each movement. Lee Seng pulled the Soul orb out and listened to the orb's noise as it shimmered. He moved the orb onto the altar and took his spot next to Keng.

"What now?" Lee Seng asked.

"We let Sanctuary do its thing." Keng shrugged. The two watched the Soul orb float in place. The intricate designs of the Orb started to glow brighter as it spun. Sanctuary began to hum and the sigil beneath them lit up with a loud whoosh. The room started to vibrate loudly as the light became too bright. Lee Seng and Keng shut and shielded their eyes. The noises flooded their systems and then the light and noise died.

Lee Seng felt something was different. He opened his eyes slowly and noticed they were on yellow clouds. He looked above and saw the two suns floating above. His silky outfit fluttered in the wind as a woman stepped forward. She had braided white hair and was wearing armor. Nine tails fully extended behind her and Lee Seng. She wore an orange stone bracelet and studied the two foxlings.

"Lady Freya?" Lee Seng asked. The nine-tailed fox woman's ears perked up.

"How do you… Know my name?" Lady Freya asked. She moved closer to the two foxlings. Keng blinked to adjust to the sudden light changes and looked around. His gaze fixed on Lady Freya and his mouth grew wide.

"And why are there two of you?" Lady Freya added.

"Freya!" A husky male voice called from the left. Lee Seng and Keng watched as a built man in heavy armor strolled over to her. "You'll never believe who came! Krystofer is finally here! The two suns must be here!" The burly man's gaze turned to the foxlings still kneeling in their spots. They were watching him just like Lady Freya was slowly moving back and forth between the foxlings and the burly scaled man.

"B'haru, I think these two are the two suns the God King has prophesied about." Lady Freya pointed at Lee Seng and Keng.

"W-why would there be two? Wasn't there supposed to be one who could wield the twin suns?" B'haru asked. He turned to face the foxlings and closed the distance. He checked them out and Lee Seng couldn't make out his intention.

"Tell me, foxlings. What're your names and why do you two seem paired?" Lady Freya pointed at Lee Seng. B'haru moved straight towards Lee Seng's head and sniffed a couple of times before pulling away and continuing his slow circle around the two foxlings.

"Well…" Lee Seng started as his eyes followed B'haru. "My name is Lee Seng Chang and this guy is Keng, my Fox spirit."

"Your fox spirit? That's why your souls feel the same." Lady Freya nodded. "B'haru, stop trying to intimidate the young ones. They have much to go through now and have to carry our status as Saviors." The scaly built Fox sighed and moved to Lady Freya. He stood at her side and watched the two foxlings.

"Now," B'haru cleared his throat.

"Krystofer did his job and has joined us on this plane of existence. We're glad to have him back after centuries. You've done what you're told and now you're in the Roots." Lady Freya motioned all around them.

"When he kept saying 'roots,'" Lee Seng began. "I really thought I was gonna see roots. Not a skyscape."

"Mmm, you got that right. I didn't expect this either." Keng agreed.

"Pay attention, foxlings." B'haru barked. Lee Seng and Keng turned their attention back onto Lord B'haru and Lady Freya.

"Krystofer must've explained who we are, yes?" Lady Freya asked. Lee Seng and Keng nodded. "Good. We're surprised you've actually come here. I thought Sanctuary would take you to the same place we all went, but this works better." Lady Freya moved forward and extended a hand out to Lee Seng and Keng. She smiled and the boys couldn't help but grab her hand. They stood up and Freya nodded satisfied.

"So where are we going to go then…?" Keng asked. "If we must follow the roots of Sanctuary, where will we go?"

"Krystofer told you how the Saviors came to be, right?" Lady Freya asked. She looked up at the blue sky above and stared at the two suns.

"Mmmhm." Lee Seng and Keng both nodded.

"Our goal is to cleanse the blight and evil off the Realms. Anything that fights against the God King will feel our holy wrath. We're… Paladins of sorts."

"Paladins. It's like you…"

"Read your mind? Yes, I did." Lady Freya nodded. "The sect's whole purpose is to serve the God King. He prophesied you two would come and you did. He told us we would ascend and we did. We live our lives in a veil further from death and life itself. A place short of the haven after death but a place one step further from Limbo. You could say we're… angels of sorts. Angels watching our Family and fighting the good fight in our new forms.

"Though the sect is now here, you two are the start of something new for the Saviors. You two will wield, probably, the strongest Orb of Life anyone has seen before." The clouds shifted and shook at the mention of the orb. "And now, it's time for your blessing."
